I've been coming to this fish and chips hot spot for a while now. Every time im in the area, this is a must go to place. It's not a big restaurant but enough to seat about 30 people. Service was fast and friendly. Small town feel. The food is where it rocks. The fish and chips came out hot and tasty. Moist fish, crispy fries. Generous portions. What more can you ask for. This place is worth the drive out to Gimli. About an hour north of Winnipeg, with an awesome beach nearby. read more

Used to be the best. Since re-opening, quality has really diminished. So too has the service.

Amazing food! Great service, polite and knowledgeable staff. Atmosphere and ambiance fits nicely with restaurants

Amazing product that fed myself, my wife and my 6 year old. Will definitely come back!

I have been coming to Kris's for many many years and yesterday for first time since reopening. Was so excited till I saw my meal. My battered fis had a major bubble on top and when broken open full of grease. Also the bottom of the piece was soft because of grease soaking it. The fries were then soft because the grease dripped on it. All this grease usually means the oil has been used too much. I was so disappointed and hopefully if I go again it will be better. Even the fish didn't taste good and not sure if it was the grease that spoiled it. read more

Holy cow this place is great! Was dying for some good fish and chips and man did this place deliver. I got the battered pickerel cheeks which were smaller than I expected (but not disappointing) and about quarter sized. They were perfectly seasoned plentiful nubs of delicious flaky and succulent fish. Fries were very good and nicely fried. Love that their tartar sauce - which was almost like a lemon aioli - was nicely flavored of lemon and pickle rather than a tub of mayo which is what most places basically serve these days. I'm sad that I was only in the town of Gimli for work for just a few days and could only briefly experience Kris's. I had them in the dead of winter and I can only imagine how good they must taste on a hot summer day. read more

This place seemed to be the most popular restaurant on the main drag. I really wanted some fish 'n chips so this seemed to be the place. You place your order, pay and then they bring the food to you. Their specialty is the fish n' chips are available in medium $9.95 and large size $13.95 with the choice of pickerel, cod, or haddock. The halibut option is $18.95 and pickerel cheeks are also available but only when they are in season, which they were not over the labour day weekend. I opted for pickerel and there was a choice of pan seared or crispy battered. I chose the traditional crispy batter which was really light and not too greasy. The pickerel was fresh and delicious with the lemon that came with it. I didn't mind the tartar but I find that the sauce tends to overwhelm the taste of the fish. The fries were disappointing as they were super limp and kinda soggy. The cheeseburger was ok - nothing great just your typical burger. The chocolate sundae with nuts was $3.95 for a small and was disappointing as well since the soft serve was very bland - very thick texture but not enough taste for me. But their milkshake was outstanding - asked for a peanut butter and chocolate mixture and they made it for us since they had warm PB available. Oh my was that milk shake good. There's lots of seating inside and outside which wraps around the exterior of the restaurant but it's a bit cramped outside. also, there were lots of flies around which didn't make for the most enjoyable experience. But otherwise, service was really friendly and food was served up fairly prompt on such a busy day. I'd definitely go back for the fish and chips. They accept cash and debit here. read more

They are maintaining COVID protocols very well! We had the fish and chips (haddock) and were well pleased. Very flavourful batter and great fries. Any time we go to Gimli, this is our go to. I was so hungry and enjoyed the food, I forgot to take a picture. read more

Every year we come to our cottage we go to kris fish and chips it's become somewhat of a tradition . They have the best fish and chips second only to Fergies fish and chips who's review you can find on my page. There ice cream is some of the best and the location makes it ideal to browse up and down Gimli pier which is covered in wonderful artwork some of which is done by my own cousin. Inside there bathrooms have fish inside which are very decorative and there wall is covered in money from all over the walls. It's right next to other stores as well. They have so much variety in there food and ice cream. All in all this place is not a restaurant, it's an experience. read more

Great little place for fish & chips. Had the #7 combo with 2 pieces of fish, lightly battered or pan seared, generous serving of fries and a cold bottle of beer, all for $10! If I get an opportunity to visit again, I'd consider the all you can eat fish & chips for $10. read more

Love Kris' Fish & Chips. I always order the #7. Fish & chips and a beer for 10 bucks taxes in. You can't beat it. Two large fillets of fish, home made chips and an excellent selection of beers to choose from including brands from Manitoba's three micro-breweries - Half Pints, Fort Garry and Farmery. And what would fish & chips be without malt vinegar which you'll find on every table. When in Gimli - EAT FISH. read more

This restaurant serves some of the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. There is a choice of pickerel (walleye), cod and halibut amongst others. The breading is thin and very crispy with great flavour and texture. The fries were crispy and light. They tasted especially good with a sprinkling of malt vinegar and then a generous dunking in gravy..........delish. We sat on the small patio on a warm and breezy August afternoon.......it doesn't get any better than this. read more

Awesome pickerel! I purchased the large pickerel (battered) which came with 1 large piece and 2 medium sized pieces and side of fries. I read a review that they had good gravy and I'm bit of a gravy snob. However, the gravy checks out and was a great addition to add on to the meal. read more

Great food and a nice little selection of beer. Icelandic in particular. Loved this restaurant and worth the hour drive out from Winnipeg

A bit too expensive, about 18$ for only 2pc cod and some fries. The fries a dry and cold. Overall, it's acceptable in a small town. read more

My girlfriend, her 5 year old daughter and I stopped by today and it was not a good experience. In short, the prices are high, the service was lousy and the food was unremarkable. With the number of seasonal fry-shops within a 2-block radius, there are (hopefully) much better options. The details: I had a large order of breaded pickerel. The girl working the register told me the regular was 2 pieces of fish and the large was 3 or 4. I had seen the overdone plates of french fries while we waited to order, so ordered just fish. The breaded fish is pretty standard fare. They do not have a remarkable batter. This should be hard to get wrong, right? Surprise! The 1 of my 2 fillets was not dredged in batter correctly, and a greasy fish surprise awaited beneath the crust. No, the large does not include 3-4 pieces, just 2. After waiting over 30 minutes for 2 pieces of deep-fried fish, I didn't raise an issue about the portion size. But it should be said that the cashier was wrong... and that we waited 30+ minutes for 2 pieces of deep-fried fish during the off-tourist season. My girlfriend shared a grilled chicken caesar salad with her daughter. The croutons were burned deep brown to black, and it was a surprisingly small salad for $10-$11. They serve it in the same low-rise tray as the fish and chips - an oval approximately 9"x5" x 3/4" deep. In short, It was a small salad accented with pieces of burnt bread. I had a beer, she ordered a milk for her daughter..."wait, this milk tastes funny" so I tried it and immediately recognized the taste of powered milk. I don't mind it, but to a 5 year old, it was an unappetizing surprise. We are not dining in the arctic circle - they could have advised us when we placed the order that they serve powdered milk. The staff did not know which table had which order. It was pretty awkward watching customers discuss the queue themselves and sort out who got what plate. There are perhaps a dozen indoor tables.... there was no need for that nonsense. Our table was sticky with the leavings of the previous diners. I observed an employee dutifully make her rounds to clean up, with rag in hand... only to never actually apply the rag to a table. At least she carried away trays, I suppose. The condiment containers were also sticky and dirty. There is a wall display of photos of people travelling - the proprietor or staff, I don't know. But I do know that a responsible party should probably drop by the place once in a while, if only to wipe down the tables. They are a one trick pony and they do that trick very badly. We will never eat here again. read more

Delish fish and chips! We walked through Gimli trying to decide where to eat as stopped at this place because of the yelp reviews and how busy it was inside. We both ordered the large pickerel and chips and couldn't finish it all. We ordered a side of gravy and it was hands down the best gravy I've ever had. Perfect fries pipping hot moist fish, wonderful lil gem of a restaurant. read more
