The Grove is an British-influenced pub in the Grosvenor/Stafford area, and it has definitely made a name out of themselves with how busy it was when I went with a friend. I initially craved a burger, but the diverse options in the menu threw me for a ride in trying something else that's not a burger. I ended up having a pizza from them instead, in particular the Grove Pizza. The Grove Pizza comes with garlic oil, mozzarella, fig jam, prosciutto, arugula, balsamic reduction, truffle oil, and pecorino. The pizza was excellent and of perfect personal size. I would say however they overloaded a bit too much on the arugula, to the point where I can't see or taste much of anything else on the pizza. The atmosphere was slightly ruined by the fact we had someone behind us having an extremely loud conversation to the point everyone in our section was able to hear it. I definitely recommend this place and would return. Hopefully it'd be a better atmosphere next time I'm here.

Tip: The scotch eggs are delicious…read more The Toad in the Hole is a pub and restaurant in Osborne Village. It was there for years before I had moved to Winnipeg and this neighbourhood. It was open late on most evenings along with Papa George's that was up the street. The latter is no longer there. This eatery has gone through a bunch of changes over the years. When I was new to the neighbourhood, this eatery had two floors. The top floor had a traditional bar and restaurant. The lower floor also had a bar, but the artsy, younger folks spent time hanging around there. This place went through some renovations. If I remember things correctly, the basement got renovated and everything was on the top floor for months. The Toad in the Hole used to be on the east side of Osborne Street. When Buccacino's closed down further south and on the west side of Osborne Street, this eatery took the space over and has been there for a few years now. I have yet to see what the space looks like. Part of me wants to remember what Buccacino's was like before it shut down. The other part of me wants a scotch egg from The Toad. I love scotch eggs. I had my first one here. I remember the egg being soft-boiled. When you cut through the breading and sausage, the yolk would slowly ooze out. The scotch egg was deep-fried to perfection. Yum! I also liked getting its namesake. It was two sunny-side eggs in grilled Texas toast. It came with hashbrowns. You could choose from sausage, bacon, or ham as your protein side. I enjoyed the toad-themed breakfast menu besides the Toad in the Hole: - Tadpole (two eggs without being fried within toast) - Big toad (think English breakfast with baked beans, grilled tomato slices, and all protein sides) - Senor toad (tortillas topped with refried beans, sunny-side eggs, guacamole, pico de gallo, and cheddar) - Vegan senor toad (similar to the regular one, substituting the eggs for grilled veggies and the cheddar for a vegan version) The fish and chips are also decent here. The fish is pickerel, which was different than cod or halibut. It tasted fresh, which I loved. I don't recall ever having dessert here. I don't remember if it even served any! I hope that the pub is nice. It used to have happy hour deals that were decent. I want scotch eggs now! (359)

I would have given this place 5 stars but they replaced the dart board area with gambling machines and that made me sad because I love playing darts, it's addicting too. I ordered the Irish Nachos and I didn't know it was going to show up in a extra big basket with so much food! So much cheesy, deliciously adorned with bacon bits and more potato chips. I love this appetizer for a group. My friend tried some kind of sandwich with a soup dip. Maybe a beef French onion kind of meal, I forgot to ask him the exact name. He liked it though. This place has 2 main pool tables and it was pretty cool to play pool with my friend. This place also has a lot of televisions and a lot of people were cheering different sports games and teams. The waitresses seem pretty nice. Honestly this place is definitely worth checking out.

Let's just say I asked for the bill and left... and won't ever return. Plus the food isn't even good quality.

Located on the main drag, this cozy pub serves as one of the popular locations to grab a few drinks with your mates or dine in for a quick lunch with co-workers, and dinner with your family with more drinks in the evening. In the summer months they open up a small area on the sidewalk for your outdoor dining enjoyment. Right when you walk in, you have the bartender mixing drinks and tending to the few occupied stools at the counter and those playing darts. The hostess will gladly seat you at one of the tables along the windows or booths along the far wall in their restaurant "section". I use " " because the restaurant portion for this pub, for all ages, forms an L-shaped seating plan. The 18+ section is separated by a short black iron fence in the middle that holds a few more tables and larger booths. Sawney Beans is like any other pub with their weekday Pub Grub specials. One of the favorites is Tuesday for Pub Poutinerie Night - How Canadian of them ;) Another favorite are the Irish Nachos (Waffle fries, loaded with tomatoes, jalapenos, green onions and cheese with the option of adding chicken or beef for an extra charge) It's a small kitchen so they have a lunch menu that changes at 5pm for dinner. The lunch menu is small and not really British authentic but when i'm craving their delicious Chicken Quesadillas, this is the time to get them. Their dinner menu features more British Pub eating with titles like: - Bangers and Mash - Roast Beef dinner with Yorkshire Puddings - Shepherd's Pie - London's Burning Burger (ok not authentic but still yummy with a little heat) For a sweet tooth my favorite is: - Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla ice cream Another interesting option would be their deep fried Mars bar The bar serves up a variety of British ales as well as some domestic bottles. There's a decent wine list and a variety of British mixed cocktails and ciders. My personal favorite - Cider and Blackcurrent (Floundry Cider with a shot of Blackcurrent cordial) Two glasses in and I'm walking home feeling warm and tingly from my head to my toes! Steinbach, once a dry town, has succumbed to the British invasion and given the residents and surrounding communities a great place to eat and wet their whistles. The food tastes good but with higher prices, I would rather go elsewhere where I don't feel like a sardine.

We won't be back and we're glad we left because we discovered an excellent place just aster leaving. We sat down and yes, it was a Jets game and it was busy, but the place was by no means full. There were enough staff walking around the lounge so we waited about 10 minutes to get a menu and be acknowledged. After 15 minutes, we tried to get the server's attention several time as she visited the table next to us at least three times. No success. On her fourth visit to the table beside us and not even any eye contact, we decided that was it so we packed up and left. We live half a block from this place and have given it chances on and off hockey nights.
