I admit I should not be so last minute with everything I do. No one should ever ask or even expect anyone to return a call when you call last minute the way I did. These people truly care. Sometimes you have to have a craftsman come to you. I needed a few snap and cockpit cover touch ups, and got a recommendation for Canvas Concepts. He has done canvas and carpet work for many of my friends at my marina. He does some work at your dock and some work at his shop in Hilton. He fixed some canvas snaps that had broken on my cover, and added some snaps and snap bolts on the rear quarters and on my radar arch, where there should have been anyway. He also added a rubber guide of some sort (I don't remember what he called it) by the radar arch to prevent gaps and keep rain out. I would not have known to ask for this. Genius. Price was very reasonable.

Bent the propellor shaft and thought the entire outdrive was spent (that was the info I gathered after speaking to another marina). After hearing good things about Riegel Marine, I decided to bring it to Eric. Instead of trying to take my money, he informed me that the outdrive is fine, just needed a new shaft which saved me thousands. His crew got it done way faster than I expected and even fixed a gouge in my hull. Boat looks brand new, I can't even tell where the gouge in the fiberglass was. Excellent work. Wouldn't go anywhere else!

The staff was really friendly but also seemed overwhelmed at times. When we got on the boat we found none of the gauges worked, including the gas gauge and speedometer, which seem pretty important for driving a boat. The ladder is only two rungs and about 9 inch wide which makes getting back onto the boat very hard and painful at times. You really need to throw yourself back on the boat if you decide to go swimming. The motor also seemed under-powered and sputtered at times if you gave it too much gas. But the biggest joke is you are apparently not allowed in the lake which we were never told about from the start. I know, right? A boat is not allowed in another connected public waterway. If you are out there some rude kid on a green jet ski will ride out to you and yell at you. I asked them back at the shop if there is someone out there guarding the lake because it seemed ridiculous and we weren't sure if this guy was even affiliated with the shop. But they dejectedly said yeah it was probably the boss' son. I can only assume they don't want you on the lake because these boats could probably break down at any moment. When I told them about the broken gauges they just told me "yeah, they're all like that". Bottom line, if you are looking to save money and rent a boat that essentially just runs this is the place for you. If you want a better experience and be allowed to go into the public lake spend the extra money and go somewhere else.

It's a simple but well-stocked outpost. The pontoon boats hold up to 10 people and cost $100 for four hours. They're super nice and are flexible with the return times as well. Fishing on Sodus is relaxing, unpretentious and affordable. Definitely recommend this shop for an outing on the bay. Most of the fish shy away from the sun by 11:30 am, however, so you'll have to get out there early to make the most of the day.
