We hired Jim Longden in 2023 to install flooring in our dining room, kitchen, and downstairs…read morebathroom. He also installed a vanity, sink, and toilet for us. He claimed he was capable of doing that work and we hired him in good faith. He made some egregious errors which caused flooding and water damage that was discovered in 2024. Uber our toilet the blocking was gone and the hole under our toilet was too big. He also never sealed the toilet in the floor so you could just wiggle it around in the bathroom floor! A professional contractor would never make these mistakes. Water leaked underneath our bathroom, kitchen, and dining room floors and they all had to be torn out. We had to pay for the repairs out of our own pocket so we are currently $30,000 in debt. We are still fighting with his insurance to pay for this! DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN.

I hired Jim to install new countertops, which he did a good job at, from the previous contractor…read more He also installed my new sink and tiles for a backsplash. Bad points about the job, he left shims sticking out from the countertops, which caused a space between the countertops and cabinets. I already bought thin cove molding to fill in that space once the shims were cut off. He kept telling me he would take care of it but never did. I oginally wanted small 4" X 4" tiles to be used as a backslash, but he talked me into getting bigger tiles. I don't what kind of caulking product he used but the tiles are now separating from the countertop, now I'm going have to hire someone to recaulk them. I was going to hire him for another job for painting a bedroom and to put flooring in a closet. He was telling me , I should buy new baseboards, my wood baseboards are in good condition but just needed a paint job. I wanted vinyl sheeting in a small closet off the bedroom because there is a water heater in that closet, which had carpet and was pulled up because of a water leak from the water heater. He told me he wouldn't put vinyl sheet flooring in that closet. He told me to buy vinyl plank which I did which was not cost effective for a small closet. When I told him I was buying my carpet from Home depot or Lowes, he told me so you are going to trust them to lay the carpet. He told me he could bring some carpet samples for me to look at which will be cheaper then Lowes or Home depot and that he would put the carpet in. He never bought me any carpet samples to look at. He tries to manipulate you into buying things that is not necessary and costs effective. New baseboards went back to the store and so did the vinyl plank that I bought. Bedroom and baseboards now painted, vinyl sheet used for the flooring in the small closet, new door built to my water heater closet and carpet installed by Lowes.

Most notable and dramatic is that they repaired the spa platform crossbeams to something that is definitely aesthetically better looking! They did a lot of cleanup work such as sanding off chalk, and pencil lines previously left behind. They cleaned off the residual cardboard from the sono tube support pillars. But I think one of the most impressive things of all is that they literally raked out all the residual stone, debris and shale that had been left under the spa and deck. My wife was much happier with this result, and I'm grateful to them for following through on these issues. I've posted pictures of the cleanup work that was done by them today.

Granted they were replaced when we pointed it out but, most contractors would notice and rectify without the need for customer concerns and requests. very disorganized and one of the men working on our home flat out lied. the carpenter was excellent and the tradesmen were excellent but as far as the way this business was run, I'd say do just that, run.

Never pulled a permit for the job, never had the work inspected by the city inspector and then a year later when we clearly caught them red handed that they did not perform the work that they were contracted to do, said that they would not honor the previous agreement and fix the incomplete work that was performed. No Work Ethic at all, I could not justify recommending this company to any person that expects proper work to be performed and done with a guarantee that if something goes wrong they will come back and address the issue. This company could have a whole season of HGTV to Catch a Contractor! DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY TO DO ANY WORK!!!!

ALL DONE SAME DAY -- assessing the issue, removing the faulty tile, cutting and installing a replacement, and regrouting. Dynamic Home Renovations has its own employees, rather than relying solely on subcontractors, so when an issue comes up, they can actually send someone out without a major hassle -- even long after the project is finished. That kind of follow-through and customer service is HUGE. This wasn't something I considered asking contractors about before hiring them, but I definitely will going forward. Dynamic was the Subcontractor hired by my GC, I never had a contract with him, but he still honored his guarantee. I also reached out to the original GC. He scheduled a day to come over and although he said he was going to fix it that day, all he did was "assess the problem" -- I'm still waiting to hear back from the GC. THANK YOU CLEIBSTER, and thank you Luis! I will add the updated photos once my grout dries, but wanted to update my review ASAP since I was pretty UPSET about having a tile I needed to figure out how to replace. GENERAL ADVICE: If you have tile installed, always save at least a partial box of the leftover tile! Our tile was discontinued by Floor & Decor. So happy I had enough for the fix.

Quality, quality, quality!…read more Taft Construction has been doing work for my family since I was a teenager. As we've grown to have our own homes, my siblings and I still would not use anyone else for home repairs, additions or renovations. Is it unscrupulous to Yelp for family? Because that's the way Mike, the owner, and his crew make you feel when they work on your home. They are exceedingly patient during the planning and budgeting process, and then deliver a quality of work that we think is unparalleled. We've recommended them dozens of times with no hesitation and never had someone that hasn't simply gushed about the work once it was complete. Other times, we've seen friends elect to go for the mega-hardware store contractor option, or so-and-so's brother who is a part time handyman, and the contrast is painfully obvious. When Taft Construction explains an estimate, you really understand what you are paying for. (and once the work is complete, you wonder why there wasn't a 75% artistic/quality stipend tacked on) But over the years, through the experiences of friends and neighbors, we've seen exactly how some contractors cut price to get a job, and the results are very telling. So if you are Yelping for home additions or renovations on the North Shore, go no further. Just don't tie them up for too long, because I think it might be time for us to get a new deck this summer.
