A small hole-in-the-wall in Torrance in a nondescript strip mall on PCH. The food was outstanding - Seafood pad Thai, & an exotic chicken noodle dish. The server was lovely & helpful & knew her way around the menu. A very nice version of Thai iced tea. Oh, & the protein in the mains was exuberant & plentiful. My only negative was that the medium spicy level was only 2 of 5, not the 3 or 4 I anticipated. But I'll remember that for next time, & there will be a definite next time. We were in the Torrance area and found this spot on a whim and I'm glad we did! Located in a shopping plaza and luckily there was ample parking. We didn't make reservations and I don't think we needed it because when we got there the place was pretty empty and we were seated right away. It got busy later on in the evening. We ordered the chicken satay and unlike other places, it didn't come on a skewer, rather thinly sliced. Loved the presentation of the dishes. I feel bad leaving a mediocre review but that was my experience with the food here. Maybe bc of the close to 5-star rating, but I expected more. I ordered the tom yum soup and the red curry. Was thrown off by the tom yum. I was expecting the usual tangy lemongrass taste that I love, but was met with a more tomato base which was different. It kinda tasted like diluted pasta sauce met tom yum lol. Also there wasn't a variety of veggies. It was mostly mushroom and chicken chunks in the soup. The red curry was just okay. This is some of the best and most authentic Thai food I've had. The flavors are incredibly well balanced, and everything is seasoned perfectly. One thing to note: be careful with the spice level. Their medium is genuinely spicy and will probably be too hot for most people. The duck curry is unique, rich, and absolutely delicious. I also highly recommend the pork jowl and the papaya salad. This is a thai restaurant loacted in a corner of a corner plaza of the intersection. The interior is given a modern flair with some admittedly strange choice of figures near the cashier stand. I came during a Monday near opening time for dinner. I ordered the shrimp paste fried rice (with medium spiciness). The rice has good flavor with the shrimp paste giving a salty savory flavor akin to fish sauce. The shrimp was well done, but definitely didn't jump onto the plate from the ocean. The texture is real dry which is okay... until you add the excellent seafood sauce that accompanies the rice. The seafood sauce adds a vibrant, acidic, and tangy taste to the dish while helping with the dry texture of the rice. The tang and acid helps cut the saltiness of the rice which keeps you wanting to eat more. This is the star component of the fried rice (which is likely why the rice is dry). I really enjoyed the shrimp paste fried rice here and it leaves me curious of the texture of their regular fried rice. As for now, this place gets a recommend on that dish and it certainly warrants a try of the rest of their menu. read more

Tried Krata for the first time! Located in a strip mall, there's plenty of parking. The restaurant is nice and clean. We ordered 2 lunch specials: yellow curry with chicken and Hot basil ground chicken. And a Khoa Soi noodle. The lunch specials came with a nice spring salad and light crispy eggrolls. The chicken in both the curry and Khoa soi were exceptionally tender. We loved our food and the service and are looking forward to coming back to try more items. read more

This restaurant is in a small plaza with a small parking lot. I came here around 8 pm, so wasn't busy and parking was fine. Restaurant itself was also small. It took a while for our food to come out, probably 20-30 minutes. There were a few other groups there and some to-go orders. We had the following: 1. Grilled pork jowl: fatty as expected, but it was good. The sauce on the side was tasty and had some spice to it. 2. Red Chili fried rice with chicken: fried rice was good. The chicken was fried, which I didn't expect. It kind of tasted/reminded me of popcorn chicken. I would have preferred just regular stir-fried chicken. 3. Tom yum soup with chicken: the soup was not as sour or did not have as strong of a lemongrass flavor as I would have liked, but overall the soup was still good. Although the soup itself seemed a bit concentrated. The plating for this restaurant was very nice. It provided an affordable fine-dining type feel that elevated the dishes. Prices were reasonable. My friend had been eyeing this thai place. It seemed a bit more fancier than your typical thai restaurants. Every dish seemed beautifully presented. It's super nice that they gave salad as a free appetizer. We started with eggrolls. It wasn't the typical eggrolls I've had. It seemed like it had some kind of mashed potatoes inside? I don't know why but it tasted more Chinese dish than Thai? They cut it up and made it look super fancy. Personally, I feel like cutting it up in half would just make everything cool down faster, but I guess if it's for the presentation, so be it. I went with a work group. My order was the Drunken Noodles & egg rolls. The Drunken Noodles were spicy but lacked the much else. The egg roles were nothing special reminded me of frozen . The food came out randomly my coworker was being cautious as she has not big on spicy so she ordered fried rice. Her order arrived long. After everyone else was served. And was just rice. Wanted to try out a new thai spot today and this spot came up. Wasn't expecting too much but it was really good! We had the squid leg appetizer, glass noodle salad, the chef special (crispy garlic with pork jaw), and curry noodle. All three were really good but the chef special was my favorite for sure. The only thing was the appetizer was pretty small, though it was nice and crispy. But they didn't really give that much sauce. As a Thai American, honestly I would have never guessed that I would find an authentic Thai restaurant in Harbor City. Since the area is prominently non Thai or Asian, I had made assumptions about this Thai spot. I was wrong. I was so crazy wrong. Krata is actually cooking Thai food with authentic flavors. I was impressed! Krata is creative with presentation and introduces new Thai dishes that I never tasted before that my critical Thai mom would approve. Khao Soi with roasted duck breast, presentation was 10/10 along with concentrated curry flavors, both slippery & crunchy egg noodles, mustard greens and it was amazing. One of the best I've had. That roasted duck with crispy skin, yummy! For anyone who has a fitness goal and wants a chicken breast with thai flavors, get their chicken satay. Basically it's sliced grilled chicken breast that's flavorful. If you want something more tender, get the grilled Pork Jowl/Cheeks because that Thai dipping sauce it is paired with is damn spicy but so addictive. I noticed everyone ordered a different type of fried rice. I am so glad that I did. These are not ordinary types of fried rices. You can pick from their classic but have fun flavors like green curry, pineapple, crab, spicy basil but we opted for the red chili paste fried rice with fried shrimp. The presentation was magnificent and the flavors were wow. This spicy red chili thai fried rice with a mountain of fried shrimp. Loved the textures. Eveyone talks about Tom Yum or Tom Kha Soup (coconut), it was first time trying Gaeng RanJuan Beef Soup. Loved it. The flavors are comforting and the beef was tender. It's sour, spicy and great on a rainy day with steamed rice. This restaurant is welcoming. The service is attentive. It's a local restaurant that deserves more love and support. Came here on a quiet Tuesday night for dinner. Ordered the shrimp paste fried rice and also shared some of the Tom Yum soup and Papaya Salad. The dishes were excellent and had good depth of flavor. The staff was friendly and helpful, even explaining to us when the peak season for mango sticky rice was. There's soft lighting, clean tables and soft jazzy music playing if you eat in, though I'm sure this would be nice for takeout too if you live close enough. TL;DR - my favorite spot for authentic Thai food. BOGO promotion for Thai tea. Spicy minced chicken ball and crispy combination seafood were really good. The aromatic shrimp paste soup with beef stew had a light sour/acidic taste with very tender beef (think beef noodle soup). Grilled fish salad was delicious and NOT fishy. I'd get the fried rice again. There was SO much of it. The Thai tea cheesecake and coconut ice cream was very unique and delicious! This is my favorite spot for authentic Thai food. I've been back twice and see myself becoming a regular. They recently opened in August and specialize in a modern approach to authentic Thai food. The food is delicious and the aesthetics are to the level of fine dining. They have a current BOGO promotion if follow their social media. They have two thai teas you can get with this promotion: Phuket and Bangkok thai tea (both very different in taste but they're delicious) Highlights: The spicy minced chicken ball with northern chili and Thai herb was really good. It was savory and a little spicy if you like the heat. My partner happily finished this plate. Crispy combination seafood. Not spicy, very crunchy, savory and soft on the inside. There was crab inside (not sure if there was something else given the 'combination' in the name). Aromatic shrimp paste soup with beef stew was surprisingly good! It has a fair amount of vegetables inside, a little more on the acidic/sour side that is characteristic of Thai soup. The highlight was how much soft and tender beef was inside. It reminded me of the meat in beef noodle soup. Had left overs for the next day and was happy to eat it for lunch. Grilled fish salad with roasted chili jam. Outstanding dish! The fish was grilled perfectly. It had a beautiful orange/yellow on the exterior. No fishy taste at all. Just a wonderful dish. E-sarn fried rice with crispy tonkatsu. I'd get this again. There was so much rice and tonkatsu that we had to pack it up for the next day. Multiple layers of flavor. No overpowering ingredient. Just well balanced, delicious, and no complaints at all. Thai tea cheese cake with homemade coconut ice cream was very pretty and uniquely flavorful. I had never eaten coconut ice cream before so I didn't know what to expect. Imagine vanilla ice cream with a nice kick of coconut. The Thai tea cheesecake is exactly as you'd imagine it. It was on the dense side with that signature Thai tea taste. Food was AMAZING as usual but service by the new wait staff was terrible. I wanted to order the Garlic & Black Pepper shrimp with shells on (it wasn't available last time, only with no shells) so I asked the waitress, "Is this available today?" She said, "Yes." Then another waiter took our order. When our food came it wasn't what was in the picture. I said, "This isn't what I ordered." He said, "Yes, garlic." I said, "No, the dish I ordered has shells on." Him, "We don't have that. Do you want it?" He's pointing to the dish he brought. I said, "No, I don't want it." He took it away & never asked me if I wanted anything else. In fact he never returned to our table period. I left without eating a main dish. The 3rd waiter who charged my card returned with the receipt & stood just staring at me, like he wanted to see how much of a tip I would leave. I said, "Thanks." (LONG PAUSE). He finally left. When we finally got up to leave (this is a tiny restaurant & only 2 tables were occupied), they said nothing. The other waitstaff who served us before were super friendly & wouldn't have brought us food we didn't order & then tell us we ordered it. I was looking for something to have for lunch and I decided to stop into the strip mall. I saw that the Middle Eastern restaurant went out of business. And for some reason, I just wasn't feeling like birria tacos. So, I decided to give this place a try. I'm not sure how long this Thai restaurant has been in business. I vaguely recall eating at a Thai restaurant in this same location, but I think it was under a different name and I was underwhelmed with that previous experience. This place offers to go and also sitdown service. I opted for my food to go. The menu has enough options but seemed small to some reason. I opted for one of their lunch specials. I ordered the spicy basil with chicken. I like that he asked how hot I wanted it. I asked for it very spicy and it delivered. The main dish, while I felt the portion was on the small side for the price, did taste good. The lunch special came with steamed white rice on the side, a tiny salad that was, I think, already dressed with some sort of sesame seed containing dressing (yet seemed underdressed at the same time) and a fried egg roll. Unfortunately the bottom of the egg roll was so soggy from some liquid (?salad dressing). It was just mediocre, and a tad oily. The only other thing I found odd about this place was that they had a bunch of bags of Thai coconut rolls on tables. They were offering a free bag with a yelp review. I am not taking part in that freebie, by the way. So just keep that in mind when you're reading reviews on this place. Bottom line: Would I come back? She asked if it isn't too much trouble to upload a picture of their current promo: but 1 Thai iced tea, get 1 free. (Easy enough and it being a good deal, I did it. Also ordered it. Heh...) Yoko later came back with our drinks and we were pretty much ready with our order at that point: ROTI WITH NORTHERN CURRY SAUCE: I've had my share of this dish, but this is the first time I've had it so flaky and delish! They stood on their own but the curry sauce elevated it to another level. Not necessarily better, but different. Either way, they were good. CRISPY COMBINATION SEAFOOD: Huh. Egg rolls. (I was expecting something else.) But enough of that - these things packed so much flavor! Presentation was impressive, flavor even more so. Liked this a lot as well. GARLIC AND BLACK PEPPER SHRIMP: Generous with the amount (and size!) of the shrimp they served. There was plenty to share between my party of three. The shrimp retained their main essence while the garlic and black pepper helped elevate its overall flavor. Hubbers said this was his favorite dish out of everything we got. SHRIMP PASTE FRIED RICE: I've once made shrimp paste fried rice - but it's not even close to the version they have here. Theirs was much better, so much more flavor and whoa, spicy. (Didn't expect that either.) If you're feeling adventuruous, might be something to try. KHOA SOI: Skipped it. Mom and Hubbers loved it. KRA POW BEEF: For Hubbers only (he ordered it spicy!) He loved this as well. FOOD: 5. For the ones I tried. SERVICE: 5. Yoko is perfect. VALUE: 4. A bit on the pricey side, but you get more with what you pay for. PARKING: Shared with other businesses. Plan accordingly. OVERALL: 4.5. If there was something I'd point out are a bits of discrepancy on the descriptions of two of the things we ordered. 1) I didn't know the crispy combination seafood were egg rolls. I expected a calamari type of plate. Don't get me wrong: it was delicious, but had I known they were egg rolls, I might have ordered something else. 2) Nowhere in the description of the shrimp paste fried rice indicated it was spicy - there was a strong kick to it, for sure. We visited on Father's Day after striking out elsewhere and quickly finding thjs place on Yelp. Luck was on our side; it was fantastic. Plenty of free parking in the lot of the strip mall where the restaurant was located. The restaurant decor felt upscale and spa-like (sterile and serene?). The noise level was moderate with relaxing spa-like music on. There was one other party of 3 dining in the restaurant so talking noise was minimal. The service was exceptional. We were promptly greeted as we entered, and seated right away. Our waitress was just the right amount of attentive, refilling my water in time for me to douse my burning mouth. She was so friendly. And she perfectly paced bringing the dishes out. We ordered the papaya salad (shrimp), tom kha (chicken), pad Thai (shrimp), yellow curry w/ chicken, and eggplant w/ basil (tofu). All with medium spice level. The heat had me wiping my nose regularly but I didn't mind it. I have eaten Thai maybe two dozen times in my life; Krata's food stood out as a top 3 for me. The check came with small, amusing marshmallow chocolate treats that capped the night off well. We were in the area for a day trip adventure. This isn't convenient for me to get to regularly but is definitely on my rotating restaurant list for when I'm feeling like a special treat out of the norm. I'll definitely be back! read more

I think I found my new favorite Thai place! It is tucked away between 2 taco places in a small strip mall in Lomita. Yes, there are other Thai places but this is the place if you want authentic flavors that make your tummy happy. It's hard to find food that truly tastes like Thailand. Our waitress was super sweet and friendly. She gave us tips on what to order and her opinions. The food was incredible, not too sweet like a lot of places are. We tried the jowl, the papaya salad and the khao soi. Medium spicy was pretty spicy. (You have been warned. This is Thai spiciness.) It was the best papaya salad I've had in the US. Same with the khao soi. So freaking good! Make sure you add the lime. The jowl was melt in your mouth! I'll have to try the nam tok next time. And there will be a next time. Three stars because the food was a disappointment. The Thai iced tea was delicious and it was nice to receive a free one with their social media promotion. We ordered the khao soi and crispy egg rolls. The egg rolls looked nothing like the photos on yelp, they were soggy and tasted like they were frozen and reheated, poorly. Worst part is this tiny appetizer was $15 Unfortunately they were out of beef for the khao soi, which was a big disappointment. We had to go with chicken. This change had to be made after we had ordered or else we may have not ordered it. It arrived with the chicken skin fully on, and it was hard to decipher skin vs noodles in the dish itself, plus the khao soi had too much of a chicken taste, it's truly a beef dish. Tried out this new restaurant and it was great! Ordered a few dishes and drinks. Papaya Salad Eggplant Chicken Basil Radnar with chicken Thai Tea First of all I have to say all the food here was delicious and well presented. The eggplant chicken had a great flavor and the portion was adequate. The radnar chicken was also good but only had a few pieces of broccoli and could of used more The papaya salad was great. The flavor was on point. Ordered it medium it was a good amount of spicy. If you don't eat spicy don't get this spice level. The shrimp on top were undercooked but staff resolved the issue. The Thai teas were not overly sweet and flavorful. The parking lot was small but there is street parking. The restaurant was clean and staff were very nice. read more
