Nasty place to eat out. That's a bug in the chicken that looks sort of like a little cockroach!!
Adam G.

This my second time having this Chinese food. It was good the first time about a month ago. But this second time was horrible!! I was starving and slamming a dinner meal of sweet and sour chicken; I bit off half of a piece of chicken and I seen a black piece within. At first I thought it was a burnt piece of something but no it was a bug looked kinda like a small cockroach. It is sad how dirty some places can be when it comes to making food. Eat at your own risk everyone!!! I'm going to upload a picture of the bug in the piece of chicken too.

First time ordering from this establishment. Not the most aesthetically pleasing carry out but they make up for it with the price! Combination meals are $5.99 and you get a huge portion of food. We had Almond Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken & Vegetable Low Mein and everything was delicious - no complaints. I may have found my new favorite local Chinese carry out place!

Have been coming here for many years. The food is great and cheap but the guy who works there is dryer than a piece of toast.

I'm still in the "wow, I can't believe it, we've found our restaurant for Cashew Chicken, wow, that…read morewas amaaaaaazing!" phase. That was mindblowingly delicious Cashew Chicken, and the eggroll that came with it, and the chicken fried rice, were right up there in amazingness. I can't find my words, in this satiated state of great food coma. The Egg roll was crispy, and the veggies inside were perfect, not strings that got in the teeth, but lightly cooked and seasoned beansprouts. The chicken fried rice had nice tender chunks of chicken, a beautiful dark soy sauce, and was perfect texture, and delish for what it wasn't as much as for what it is: It was lightly flavored and not too salty, not greasy, not clumped - each grain stood out. We could tell the star of the show was the Cashew Chicken as soon as we opened the lid. There it was: perfectly cooked broccoli, chicken, water chestnuts, mushrooms, and shaved carrot pieces in an addictive brown sauce that filled the kitchen with an irresistable aroma, just a perfect sauce really, were topped by well-browned cashews, and a lot of them. I haven't had Cashew Chicken this good since moving from California decades ago. I'll be back - maybe tomorrow. There are so many other dishes on the menu we want to order, but it will have to be "an order of cashew chicken AND....", won't it?

I was looking for a Chinese restaurant. I used YELP to help me find one. After looking at many…read morerestaurants, I saw and read that 1st Wok had good reviews so I decided to go there. Now, my first impression of 1st Wok was a hesitant one. It's not set in the best of plazas. There closed businesses that surrounded them. I didn't know if I should get out of the car but I did. When entering the establishment again I was hesitant. It's not the best looking restaurant. Definitely needed a paint job. There were 3 booths for dining in but they were taken up by supply boxes, one of their kids was watching their tablet and the other booth had a child sleeping in it. I hadn't planned on eating there anyway. There was a customer there waiting for their meal. I asked him if he came here often and he said yes with no hesitation. He said the food was good. Ok. The woman behind the counter was very nice. I asked questions about the food, especially the ABC, Almond Boneless Chicken, a specialty in Michigan Chinese restaurants and she answered every question with pleasure. I ordered the ABC combo which consisted of chicken fried rice, almond boneless chicken, a chicken/pork egg roll & chicken flavored gravy. The price was reasonable. When I got home and opened the foam container there was so much food I couldn't believe it. Definitely worth the price. Now, how does it taste. The egg roll was a little different. Crunchy on the outside with a different consistency on the inside but tasty. I've never had a chicken/pork egg roll before. It was bad. I had asked for plain fried rice instead of chicken fried rice and that's what I got. It was a mountain of rice, enough for 3 or 4 people!! WOW!! There had to have been a least 10 pieces of crispy chicken with green onion pieces on top. Again, enough for 3 people. The gravy, though different to me was very good on top of the chicken and rice. This was an excellent meal. I ate this combo dinner for 3 days in a row and every day I ate it was a treat. Tasted like day one. Overall..... The Almond Boneless Chicken (ABC) combo meal was really good and tasty, all 3 days!! Despite the dingy environment, I'm going back to try something else. Maybe beef pepper steak this time. Give 1st Wok a try. The ABC is really good!! Peace and Good Food

This was, up until last week, my absolute favorite restaurant. Last week was the second time in 2…read moremonths that I'd ordered what used to be an amazing dish, their Cashew Chicken. It seems they have a new chef, or new recipes? The Cashew Chicken the last two times had raw pale cashews instead of pan-roasted. The main vegetable, celery, was completely raw and crunchy. But the worst part was the sauce: they left it out two times in a row. It was water. Just water. No salt, no soy sauce, nothing but water on raw cashews. What happened? I tried cooking it but you know, it's a matter of taking each piece of chicken out so it won't get overcooked, heating the wok, drying the celery and cashews after taking them out of the water, so I can get the expected sear, etc. The thing is, I GOT CARRY-OUT SO I WOULDN"T HAVE TO COOK. A side note: I ordered the same dish at another restaurant, one I'd never tried before. Their celery was cooked, but they, too, had put plain water as the "sauce" and and no discernable seasoning. What is going on? Am I missing something? Are they now selling meal "kits" you're supposed to cook, season, and sauce before eating? If so, can they leave the water out?

Not acceptable in my book.

So disappointed with Wong's Garden tonight…read more I hadn't had Chinese food in months and was really craving it, so naturally I went back to what had always been my go-to spot for sesame chicken and General Tso's chicken. One of the things I always loved about Wong's Garden was that their chicken had that wonderful deep-fried crispiness that held up even after getting it home and throughout the meal. I also appreciated that their egg rolls were filled with bean sprouts rather than being packed with cabbage. Tonight, unfortunately, was a completely different experience. We ordered sesame chicken, a General Tso's combination dinner, vegetable lo mein, a pint each of egg drop and hot and sour soup, and crab wontons. After the additional credit card fee and a tip, we were at $80 for takeout. A little sticker shock, sure, but I figured we could consider it a midweek date night and enjoy a meal we'd been looking forward to. That excitement disappeared pretty quickly. Both the sesame chicken and General Tso's chicken were incredibly mushy. Not a bit of that signature fried crunch I remembered. And this wasn't because the food sat around getting soggy. I arrived just as our order came out of the kitchen and was home, unpacking it in my kitchen, within five minutes. It honestly made me wonder whether they've changed their recipe or preparation. As disappointing as it is to say, I've had better sesame chicken at the mall food court. But the texture wasn't even the worst part. There was a very strange, off-putting flavor that seemed to carry through nearly every dish. I can't quite describe it other than a musty, almost perfume-like taste. It was distinctive enough that I noticed the same flavor in multiple items, and it completely ruined the meal for me. Oddly enough, the egg roll and crab wontons were the only things that didn't seem to have it. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, especially for a local restaurant I've enjoyed and recommended in the past. I actually hadn't planned on writing a review tonight, which is why I didn't take any photos. We ended up throwing most of the food away after eating the egg roll and crab wontons, and I figured I'd just chalk it up to a disappointing $80 dinner. But as I sat here afterward, I couldn't shake that strange, off-putting taste that seemed to be present in nearly everything we ordered. Just thinking about it was making me feel nauseated. I still can't put my finger on what that flavor was, but it was unpleasant enough that I felt compelled to write this review, even if only as a reminder to myself of why I won't be returning. It's especially disappointing because Wong's Garden used to be a place I could count on when I wanted good Chinese takeout. Unfortunately, it's time to find a new go-to Chinese restaurant. If anyone has recommendations for a great local spot, especially one that makes genuinely crispy sesame or General Tso's chicken, I'd love to hear them!
