And judging by how little we left on these plates...that mission was accomplished. -- I went with the combo meal with fried chicken wings AND fried catfish, with fried okra and cabbage on the side -- and whew! -- DELICIOUSSSSS. The chicken was crispy and seasoned, the catfish had that perfect golden coating, and the sides tasted like somebody in the kitchen actually cares about you. The okra especially? I could've easily ordered another serving. -- We also tried the oxtails, and one thing I'll mention: if you're used to Caribbean-style oxtails, these are definitely different. Don't go in expecting the same flavor profile. BUT they were still incredibly tender, moist, flavorful, and practically falling apart. Paired with the sides and that cornbread?! -- And the experience goes beyond the food! The building itself is SO cute, and I loved seeing the murals featuring famous people from the area and notable people who have visited. I came to this place after hearing a lot of hype about it. They have a decent sized private lot and there is also street parking available. My friends at work and I stopped in here for lunch at the recommendation of another co-worker. We came on a Thursday and it was pretty busy. Service started off great. He gave us a few minutes to look over the menu and brought us our drinks. We decided to split the deviled eggs appetizer and were so excited to try it. It took a long time to come out, and when it did it was only 2.5 eggs. Incredibly disappointing for a $15 cold app. I ordered the hot honey fried chicken thinking it would be one piece of fried quartered chicken (or a maybe a combo) because the menu didn't say specifically what it was and it was in between quartered chicken and chicken wings. I picked mashed potatoes + fried okra as my sides and added an additional side of macaroni and cheese. One friend did the combo with whiting (at the recommendation of our server who said it was better than the catfish) and meatloaf and picked mac and cheese + mixed greens as her sides and my other friend picked the baked quartered chicken with coleslaw (can't remember her second side). Our server stopped by a long time later and said our food was being made and that we would be up next, but they were feeding a large party before us (no problem, they were here before we got here) and that it would be a "5 minute delay." 5 minutes became 15-20 minutes. During this time we also went 30+ minutes without waters being refilled. Once our food finally came, we asked for refills, salt, pepper, and vinegar. My water and one of my friend's water was refilled, but our other friend who had ordered tea never received a refill the entire time we were there (2 hours). My chicken that came out were all wings, which I did not want and wouldn't haven't ordered if the menu stated that. Our server said "they always come out like that and he would have told me if he knew I didn't know that." He went through all of the specifications of the baked vs fried chicken and dark vs white meat with my friend who ordered the baked quartered chicken, so it seems odd he would just not mention that when I ordered. And again, the menu has a separate option for chicken wings, so why would a customer expect the "hot honey fried chicken" to be only wings? He asked me 3 times if I wanted him to swap it out, which was frustrating because if I said no once, then please stop coming back to the table to ask me again. I said no thank you the first 2 times and then the 3rd time I added in that we didn't receive our food until we had already been there for an hour and I didn't want to wait that long again for a replacement. I ended up deciding I would just bring them home to my husband to eat for dinner. I ate my sides instead (glad I had gotten a 3rd one to try) and had to add copious amounts of salt and pepper to the mashed potatoes and mac and cheese because they were not seasoned. They were served hot and had a good texture, but there was no flavor, which was weird because it's a soul food spot and not at all what I remember from their original location. My fried okra was also not seasoned, but had a good breading to okra ratio and was served hot. My friend that ordered the whiting and meatloaf liked her meatloaf, but only ate part of her whiting fish and gave up because it was nothing but bones on the inside (server recommendation, but nothing was mentioned about bones). Her mixed greens were not seasoned and even after adding in malt vinegar she said they still weren't good. She did not like her mac and cheese and said the noodles tasted gummy. My other friend ate her baked chicken, said it was not seasoned like everything else, and did not like her coleslaw either after trying a bite and adding extra salt and pepper. I asked for a box for the wings and we sat without water while talking for another 30 minutes (again, we were here for 2 hours) while waiting for our server to come back so we could get checks. When he did come back we said we'd all do separate checks and instead of splitting the appetizer between he just put it on my check. This should have been split evenly or him ask us beforehand who wanted to take it if that wasn't possible. Overall, we ended up being gone from the office for 3 hours because of the drive time there and back and being in there for 2 hours to wait on food, eat, and wait for a check. Just something to think about if you are also wanting to stop in for lunch on a weekday. We were collectively disappointment in the flavor of the food and experience we had there and would not come back, which was a huge departure from when we first sat down, looked at the menu, and joked we'd have to come back enough times to order a different appetizer to split each time until we had tried them all. We were excited to try out this Indy staple comfort food! The menu is your standard southern fare and there is an entire bar with many options to choose from. Good hours. On 5/9/26, I was in Indy visiting with some family and decided to take them to kountry kitchen for some good food. I made a reservation by phone because the internet wouldn't let me maje one for 7 people. The food and table service were good during our family visit; however, the subsequent customer service and lack of billing transparency were highly disappointing. We were charged an automatic 23% large party fee ($48.27) for our group of seven. This policy was never mentioned during our phone reservation or when settling the bill. When I discovered the charge later and called to inquire, the representative was entirely indifferent. Instead of offering an apology or a professional explanation, she simply said "ok" and dismissed my concerns. While large party fees are common, failing to disclose them upfront is poor business practice. Hidden fees leave a poor impression despite a good meal. The dismissive attitude from the staff turned a good dining experience into a highly frustrating interaction. read more

So, on Thursday evening August 14th after work I had a 5pm reservation at the restaurant. It was my first time at the new Kountry Kitchen. It's in a great growing neighborhood on North College Ave. There are no stairs entering the building, you'll have to enter the doors facing Ace building across the street. Kountry Kitchen does have an event center along with a rooftop now. There are plenty of parking spaces on the lot as well as street parking. I highly recommend you to reserve especially if it's more than one person. I was seated as soon as I arrived at 5pm, it wasn't many people inside of the restaurant since it was still an early evening at 5pm. For, my entrée I ordered rib tips that came with two sides which were yams, and mac and cheese. To, drink I had a sweet tea to drink that should had been sweeter. The sides yams were absolutely delicious, the mac and cheese wasn't cheesy like the menu described, however the mac and cheese was still good. The rib tips were definitely made in the oven, BBQ had a sweet tangy to it, the rib tips were well seasoned, a lot of fatty meat on the rib tips, but overall on the rib tips wasn't bad. Now, the Server could had been a little more friendly, she never asked me if I wanted more sweet tea, but she did come around few times asked me how's the food as well as if I needed anything. Kountry Kitchen does have a full bar, have a lot of events there, and as I was leaving at 6pm there was an event on their rooftop called Bourbon and cigars. Best lunch I've had in a long time, hands down. Got the fried pork chops with mac and cheese and fried corn. Everything was excellent. Usually restaurants are hits on their main dishes and slide off on the sides, but they got both right. I couldn't tell you which side I liked better they were both that good. They were edible, but with a hint of grease flavor. The Mac and cheese was made at the stovetop and not baked, which is my preference. The flavor was good, but I prefer baked and it was also warm, not hot, almost as if it was scooped out of a pan and heated in a microwave to knock the chill off. The dressing was drier than I prefer. It was a true cornbread dressing, but I add a little razzle dazzle to mine to give it a creamier taste and texture. First thing first ! I would recommend take out. We came here for Father's Day there were about 5-6 tables seated , all with no food. Take out orders moved out the whole time. We waited about 1hr and 20 minutes for food after ordering. I'm not sure what happened but the food was great. We were starving. It seems as if they cater to take out. THEY MAY BE "OKAY" FOR DINE-IN, BUT AVOID DELIVERING FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT....AND CHECK YOUR TAKEOUT ORDER. Choose the true mom and pop southern restaurants. Y'all are overpriced. I'm from GA, and your food is weak, and priced like a high end southern restaurant, when it is just a step above MCL. Y'all are pricing based off a FORMER reputation, not actual quality, flavor or uniqueness. I was told by people born here that the quality went down and the prices went up after the last place burned down. I can believe that after my past 3 experiences there as a customer and Uber driver. It sucks to want good southern food and find it's overpriced and lacking for it's people; a poor representation of southern food, coming from someone from the South. Sides should not cost almost $6 for the portion size. $8 for 4 fried green tomatoes is diabolical. I hope you're at least paying your people well...for karma's sake. Also, I ordered a full order of fried green tomatoes and got a side order. If you're gonna charge an arm and a leg, at least get it right. EDIT: So, I reordered and received someone else's food. Lots of sides I didn't order and my former comment still stands....they are not worth the price. The stuffing was saaaaaaaad. They collard greens were flavorless and embarrassing and might as well be Glory greens without seasoning. City BBQ's collards are stripped in-store, made from scratch, slow cooked and waaaay better. I can't believe Black folks cooked that food. As someone who loves my culture, I'm so upset this is how southern food is being represented. t is a small place so expect a wait to sit if it is busy. There are tables and booths. The deviled eggs (forgot to a get pic) was okay. The white needed a little salt but the filling was just okay. The soul roll, which was filled yams, greens and Mac and cheese was actually good. Go figure, the Mac & cheese was supposed to have 7-cheeses. I only tasted one and it wasn't cheddar. It was horrible and the entire table felt as much. It tasted like they used American cheese. The cabbage was good. The cornbread was cold that the butter never melyed. I tasted some of the dressing, it wasn't bad. The whiting was seasoned well but salty as all get out... high blood pressure in the making.
