I really like "The Spot" venue which hosts several restaurants include Korean Taco aka Kotaco. I was fortunate to be treated to the Korn-Dog by my colleague. It was fluffy , crispy, cheesy, and had a mild flavor. The batter had a light sweetness and was not too dense to eat. I enjoyed having it without a dipping sauce. The spicy mayo dipping sauce does have a slight bit of heat and paired really well with the bulgogi bowl. The bulgogi bowl was very nice. I opted for beef only though the featured dish offers beef and chicken. The beef was very tender and flavorful. The cucumber, corn, kimchi, kale, and bulgogi sauce was just the right combination. Next time I'll ask for extra kimchi and cucumber. The bowl was not too heavy while eating despite being plentiful. It's enough to share with a friend or eat by yourself. I do feel you get a good value for your money. The bowl cost $13.99 and the Korn-Dog in this configuration totaled $4.49. The area is very open and modernized. It is a shared restaurant space as a whole with a bar in the middle of the venue. To my understanding there are events held which I'll cover in my review of "The Spot". Ideal time to visit here to avoid crowds will be before 5-6 pm and likely weekends. From what I've gathered the government building and WMATA employees appeared as primary customers during business hours. Afterwards during happy hours and evenings should attract more locals and visitors trying something new. You can use the kiosk to place your order and pay to minimize your interaction with the employees or to avoid long lines when applicable. I came here on a whim this week to grab lunch. There are around 6 restaurants inside the Spot but this menu intrigued me the most. I got a chicken and beef bulgogi bowl - 6/10 - sounded interesting enough but the execution was off. It tasted ok but felt old if that makes sense. Was definitely one of the healthier alternatives but it didn't wow me. Service was fast and the food was hot just didn't seem fresh. I'd come back but maybe try tacos instead. read more

I absolutely love this place. Every single time I go inside The Spot I act as if I'm going to try another spot, but I end up at Kotaco. 5/5 first time here, and a very close 5/5 this time as well! The best thing here this time were the tacos. We got a 3 taco flight and each loved the tacos. The steak and bulgolgi ones were outstanding. The shell was crispy and held up to the sauces and the wetness of the proteins. All the flavors melted together so well! I first had a sample of Chicken Bulgogi Nachos from Kotaco, a Korean Mexican fusion restaurant, during a Yelp Elite event , and knew I had to come back to get the full experience. Today was the day and it was just as good as I remembered. The nachos came with your choice of meat and then your choice of bulgogi sauce and kimchi or salsa , chipotle sauce and sour cream. I went the Korean route with the kimchi and it did not disappoint. The bulgogi chicken was sweet with a small hint of spice and perfectly saucy with the nacho chips. It's a pretty good serving size, and service was quick and seamless. Poor packaging - they do carry out and delivery orders using a flimsy plastic bag that can easily be opened by drivers. Half of my order was missing - bulgogi bowls (2) either from the driver stealing because of poor packaging or from a bait and switch by the store bc of a BOGO deal. There is no number for this restaurant - it is listed but goes straight to voicemail. The quesadilla was very greasy and the box was near soaked. It was easy to order a the counter or at the kiosk. It took about 10 minutes to receive our order. We got the korean beef bulgogi taco and the vegan taco. The flavor for both the beef and the vegan were really good. I was more of a fan of the vegan,l. It had a good portion of protein and the toppings made everything light and fresh. The tacos came with two corn shells which are good to hold everything together, but I ended up removing one shell, because it threw off the flavor ratio (doing that helped a lot). read more

Their menu features various appetizers (such as tajin mango, mango salad, seasoned fries, cheese balls, etc.), build-your-own bowls and burritos, tacos, quesadillas, loaded fries/nachos, and crunchy wraps. There are two 'styles' you can get your meal in - the Korean style (which comes with kimchi, lettuce, onions, cilantro, and bulgogi sauce) or the Mexican styl e(which comes with salsa, lettuce, onions, cilantro, and chipotle mayo). I ordered: +the 'Any 3 Taco Combo' - I chose the Bulgogi Beef (Korean Style, opting out of cilantro); the Bulgogi Chicken (Korean Style, opting out of cilantro); and, the Ca-bay Shrimp (Mexican style, opting out of cilantro and requested the salsa to be on the side); wasn't really a fan of the shrimp, as it was bland and kind of overcooked. The beef bulgogi was good, but it was definitely more on the sweeter end; the beef was still tender and juicy, though! I just wished there was more kimchi, as the amount of the toppings were kind of scarce, so I may request for an extra amount next time - I was pleasantly surprised that it was well-fermented! The tortillas, on the other hand, were probably the worst - they were super dry and stale, and they didn't seem to have been warmed up properly as they were sticking altogether. Staff was super friendly, and this counter seems to get lots of orders as well, their bowls being the most popular. Located in the corner of the Spot Food Hall next to Alpaca Ice Cream (which may or may not be a part of them or a separate entity, I'm not sure yet!), I was surprised to see that the place is totally like Korean Chipotle and I was not expecting that. I didn't do a bowl or burrito though -- I went the taco route! I have never had a taco with bulgogi chicken in it, and I must say I was quite pleased. In fact, I've only ever had bulgogi beef so the chicken was a nice surprise and delicious -- though not the most flavorful bulgogi-flavored thing I've had. The box that it was in also made it kind of hard to pick up, but I managed. And it was so nice to see Korean hot dogs on the menu! I couldn't resist and got one of those too. Fun Korean style street food with a tex/mex fusion. The corn dog with mozzarella was super yummy. I also got the quesadilla, which was a must-have. Honestly it's greasy but that's expected as it's meant to be a treat. I also got the salad with it which was bomb. Service was quick and easy. You can do kiosk style ordering or with the cashier. I came here for lunch today and I'm glad I did. This place is located within a food hall which can be found a little bit off the beaten path. There's plenty of parking which is a plus as well as plenty of seating as most patrons looked like they were doing carry out which I did as well. I ordered my food on a kiosk and one of the staff members who was packing orders was able to answer any questions that I had while I was ordering. The food hall itself is pretty loud so you can wait for your number to be called or you'll get a text. The wait time was about 10 minutes. I got a beef bulgogi bowl with purple rice, onion, corn, kimchi, cucumber, salad, bulgogi sauce, and gochujang sauce. My bowl was delicious and very filling. All of the flavors melded very well. 3.5 fast food stars Ok Kotaco!! I see you! Always one to give new things a try, someone said Korean Chipotle and I said "say less"! I mean...Korean fusion fast food - do you even have to ask??? I looked up reviews on google (since there were none here) to see if there were any recommendations and decided to order through uber eats. I was pleasantly surprised at the result! Build your own bowl - you get the choice of two proteins (tofu or veggie bowl is an option) and an appropriate list of accompaniments (purple rice, white race, kale, corn, onions, etc). I chose beef bulgogi and grilled shrimp. The bowl was decent. The onions are raw so the flavor of them overtook the bowl a bit (won't add those next time) but the bulgogi (THANKFULLY) had very little fat and you could taste the bbq flavor. I would definitely get this again but double bulgogi (nix shrimp) and add extra sauce on the side cuz I like it saucy. *shrug* I saw it and had to get the chips and guacamole. SO GLAD I DID. It was the perfect side to my friend's bulgogi tacos. Or it would have been if I hadn't eaten them all. I mean...freshly fried, no oil, crispy and lightly salted. Paired with a very fresh chunky guacamole that was seasoned to perfection. I may get some more chips today. Uber eats gives an order of fried dumplings free if your order is over $20. The dumplings were flavorful too. Only downside is that they didn't come with a dipping sauce. I'm not sure if sauce didn't make it into the bag or if they don't serve sauce with the dumplings. I had the Any 3 Taco Combo with 1 Grilled Ca Bay Shrimp taco and 2 Vegan Meat tacos. The vegan meat ones were just okay but the grill Ca bay shrimp taco was very tasty! I preferred at the kiosk and received my order relatively quick. The space is a food hall typed space. It was pretty clean in there. I was able to find a seat on a Friday afternoon. Glad I came to a Yelp event in the food hall or I would of never heard of this place . Read some reviews and figured I'd try it. I tried a wrap, with chicken, options are chicken fish or shrimp. It came with a spicy sauce that I was NOT prepared for. I got a mouthful in the first bite and was nervous to even try and finish it. I think the majority was in that first bite because after that the spice was not bad, I enjoyed the wrap, nice thick piece of chicken. I also tried the beef bulgogi taco, it was good. My favorite was the Ko-dog, potato and cheese, I ordered the spicy sauce on that too. Delicious, not sure if the sauces are the same but it did not burn my mouth like the wrap did. Sooooo first time here. I got the Korean Bulgogi bowl. Pretty tasty. Had a bit of a fusion twist as it had rice, kimchi, lettuce, corn, kale and pickled cucumbers. I was very interested to see how the kale and corn would mix with the rest. Needless to say it was a nice surprise. Definitely has a little spicy kick, but it's not overpowering and I'm a whimp when it comes to heat lol. Overall, food came out fresh and fast. First time, but definitely not my last. read more

Kotaco is a fusion of Korean and Mexican flavors. So you can find bowls, burritos, tacos, and quesadilla with a range of protein from Bulgolgi chicken or beef to Chicken Tinga or Mexican steak. It's a unique mix of flavors and my personal fav is buying it as a bowl. The main downside for me is that the chicken is dark meat (vs chicken breast) but we all like what we like! Located inside of the spot a nice pool hall in the suburbs of Maryland, I decided to try one item from this place so I didn't fill up on everything. I did end up getting a chicken bulgogi fried taco and it was very good. Service is prompt but what I don't like about is you order at a kiosk and the person behind the counter is handing you the food when it arrives. I prefer more of a human connection. Also for one taco this was almost $5 with tax with no service. I just don't think that price is justified but the taco was pretty good. read more

This is a fast food eatery located in The Spot Food Hall. They sell bowls, burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and some Asian food. The bowls and burritos can be preselected or customized. Preselected means the bowl or burrito has ingredients picked out for you, so you have no decision to make. Customized means you have to decide on what ingredients go in your bowl or burrito. The customization starts with a choice of white rice, purple rice, or mixed salad. The next step is to pick 2 proteins. The choices are bulgogi, Mexican steak, bulgogi chicken, chicken tinga, grilled CA bay shrimp, vegan meat, and bulgogi tofu. The next step is to pick some toppings. You can pick as many toppings as you like, within reason. The toppings are guacamole ($2.85 extra charge), salsa, Kotaco salad, onions, mix cheese, kimchi, corn, kale, and fish cake. The last step is to pick a sauce. The choices are bulgogi sauce, Korean cider, sour cream, chipotle mayo, gochujang, salsa verde, and spicy doge. Most of their choices have simple flavors. When the right components are put together, the dish can be flavorful.    I picked a customized bowl. I got purple rice, bulgogi, Mexican steak, Kotaco salad, kale, kimchi, onions, fish cake, and gochujang sauce. When all of these simple tasting components were mixed, the dish became flavorful. It had a spicy, savory, slightly sweet, and slightly salty flavor.    The purple rice was mildly sweet and well cooked. It looked like a mixture of purple rice with whole grain white rice. The majority was made up of white rice.    The bulgogi was mildly sweet and spicy.  The beef was moist, soft, and somewhat mushy. It wasn't savory or flavorful.    The Mexican steak was cut into small cubes. The meat was soft and somewhat mushy. The texture was just like the bulgogi. The steak was seasoned with a bit of chipotle powder, so it was slightly spicy with a light smoke flavor.    The Kotaco salad had red cabbage and lettuce. It was slightly sweet, sour, and spicy. It contained Korean cider dressing.      The kale had a sour taste. This was raw kale with a vinaigrette dressing. The kale was slightly bitter with an earthy greens flavor.    The kimchi was all cabbage with a moderately hot spiciness. The marinade had some depth of flavor from the seasonings in it. It tasted better than many pre-packaged kimchis at Korean grocery stores.    The diced onions tasted like diced Vandalia onions. It had nothing added to it. Luckily, the onions themselves tasted good.    The fish cake was flat and rectangular. Fish cake is usually made of pureed fish filet, flour, eggs, salt, sugar, and pureed vegetables. It is not a cake. It looks like deep-fried tofu in thin slices. It was slightly chewy. It tasted like mild white fish with seasoning.    The Gochujang sauce was moderately hot. It was similar in taste to sriracha sauce, except it had no garlic. It had a stronger fermented flavor with some sourness. If I buy this again, I would get bulgogi sauce with some gochujang added.    During a second visit, my wife and I got 3 tacos and a quesadilla. The tacos are sold individually or in groups of three. If you buy 3, you get a side dish and a can of soda. We pick three different types of meat: Mexican steak, Chicken Tinga, and bulgogi beef. All tacos get chipotle mayo except for bulgogi beef and chicken. They get bulgogi sauce. The tacos had red cabbage, lettuce, onions, cilantro, and meat inside of 2 thin soft taco shells. The Mexican steak taco had Chipotle mayo in it. The mayo, steak, and onion had some flavor while the rest of the taco was bland. Ask for extra sauce on the side.    The Chicken Tinga is supposed to be shredded chicken in a chipotle tomato sauce eith adobo. Their Chicken Tinga was shredded chicken breast meat with a little chipotle seasoning. No tomato sauce or adobo. The rest of the taco was bland. There was no bulgogi sauce or Chipotle mayo.    The bulgogi beef taco had the same mildly sweet and spicy beef as described above. The rest of the taco was bland. There was no bulgogi sauce. Make sure to check for sauce.    The quesadilla comes with chipotle mayo, and salsa on the side. It had meat, cheese, onions, and cilantro. We picked grilled CA Bay shrimp for our meat. CA Bay stands for cajun Old Bay as in Old Bay seasoning. The shrimp was tender and tasty with the cajun seasoning. The quesadilla had some flavor as long as there was Chipotle mayo and salsa on it. They don't give you enough for all 4 pieces. So, we had 2 pieces that tasted of cheese with some cajun shrimp. Ask for extra sauce.    The service was helpful, patient, and informative. The dining room was clean and spacious. The eatery was clean. The restrooms were very clean, and they had paper towels and air dryers. I would recommend this eatery for their custom bowl for those who know what they're doing. read more

Customer service is nonexistent here. The menu makes no mention of Cilantro, yet everything has Cilantro in it as though that makes the "Mexican" part of it. There is no mention of it in the menus. Being allergic to it, I didn't want it in my food. They put it in my food without. I asked the lady if the green stuff was Cilantro. She said yes. I told her I can't eat it, I'm allergic. Her response: she Said "Sorry" and went back to playing on her cell phone. Then she ignored me when I said "excuse me" to get her attention. No asking if they could fix it or anything. My daughter placed an order from this restaurant via Uber Eats in March 23rd. When her order arrived and she opened the bag (that was knotted) a live gnat flew out!
