    Chicken Parmesan Hoagie

Great little spot close by to campus. Needed a spot for a quick and casual dinner on a Tuesday night. Glad we gave this spot a try because we were met with the friendly owners who quickly whipped up our meals. Yummy meals with a budget friendly price! This spot is well worth the price. We ordered the gyro and chicken parm with fries which were good. The desserts looked scrumptious as well (they're on display in the front), but it was getting late and we didn't get a chance to try them. Overall, a great spot for anyone who's looking for a quick bite. Atmosphere is like a deli with dine in room so don't expect dine in to be fancy but the food at that price point and interaction with the owners is well worth it. The owners were super sweet and attentive. We were glad to have supported a small business! Definitely give this little hole in the wall a try. You won't be disappointed!

A look at the innards: tubular pasta, spaghetti, chickpeas with caramelized onions and spiced tomato sauce

I came on a friend's recommendation. Apparently the eponymous koshari(e) is rarely found outside of Egypt, where it's street food. And indeed this is a relatively simple dish, kind of an Egyptianized (is that a word?) pasta. He also suggested getting double sauce (the tomato sauce) as that's where most of the flavor is. I did not do that and probably should have. The large is a massive amount of food for dirt cheap. It's an entire styrofoam container packed full of pasta. It would make for 2 filling normal person dinners. It's basically pasta with chickpeas and tomato sauce. I think my friend hyped this up a bit much for me and I came away feeling it was nothing special. Considering it's street food, not terribly surprising. Given his excitement, I'd give this another try but definitely ask for double the tomato sauce.

We ordered takeout from here and I was impressed. I would recommend takeout. When I travel, gyros are like a comfort food for me since you can find them a lot of places. I haven't been able to find many good gyros in the US, but I liked the gyros here! We had chicken schawarma, gyros, falafel and a salad. The best was probably the gyros and falafel. The sauce put on the wraps make them juicy (not dry). We had a good experience and I haven't had other good gyros around town so I'm giving this a high rating.

We did delivery that got a but messed up (delayed) which left our food to be cold. I can't blame the restaurant for that. We found the falafel and chicken shawarma sandwiches to be wonderful and flavorful. The salad was quite good but did have a heavy amount of dressing. The GMO omelette was not good - American (artificial) cheese, tasteless vegetables. Stick to the middle eastern food when you order. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are quite big. Next time we will do our own pick up and stick to the more traditional entrees.

The owner Muhammad was such a nice guy, he greeted me like family right when I walked in. Food was fantastic .. can't wait to go back!

A small kosharie - so much food, hearty, and homemade

I ordered take out after reading the article of the Isthmus that this was a new restaurant near the Vilas neighborhood! So I ordered a side of falafel and a small kosherie, the namesake of this restaurant. I did some research before I want ordered, and a kosherie is the national dish of Egypt, and that usually consist caramelized onions and a tomato based sauce on top of a mixture of legumes, rice, and noodles. When I got home to open my container, there was so much food! I ordered a small, but when I looked at the kosherie, this is enough food for me the last 2 days. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but with the 1st bite, you could tell how much love this was made with. In some ways, it reminded me of a spaghetti and marinara with chickpeas and lentils, but I think what held the dish together the most was the caramelized onions and chili flakes and how they added this extra layer of flavor that makes you have bite after bite. The falafel were good too! You could taste how homemade they were, were flavorful and crispy, and I would order these again as well. I look forward to going back and trying more of their dishes and wish them the best success!

Ordered takeout from here after reading some pretty good reviews online. We arrived after the time that our food was supposed to be ready and had to wait a little bit. It wasn't really a big issue, but as a note it was quite warm in the restaurant. It actually made outside on an 80+ degree day feel cool. We ended up ordering the kosharie plate, the schwarma wrap with chicken, and the falafel wrap. The kosharie plate was the favorite for us. It was described as having spicy lentils, rice, pasta, caramelized onions, chick peas, and tomato sauce, but we didn't see any chick peas in the dish. That being said, it did have a very nice flavor. It also paired well when we added salad greens to it. The schwarma wrap with chicken was also pretty good, but had a different flavor than we are used to with schwarma. It was almost a sweet taste and a little greasier than we are used to. That being said it was a good size for value. The let down was the falafel wrap. I was really hopeful as I'm a big fan of falafel, but when we tasted it, the falafel was burnt. Again it was a good portion size, and if it wasn't burnt, I think it would have been pretty good. Sadly, we can't judge that.

Tasty and healthy food!! We tried the chicken shawarma, Kosharie, baklava, and carrot cake. Friendly staff!

Great place to get gyros near campus, it looks a little shady when you walk in but the food is delicious.

The Gyro is fantastic! This place is cheaper than 90% of restaurants these days and has better quality food than most.

I would also recommend taking it to go on a weekend because it's hard to find seating. They are still super fast, friendly, and helpful despite the overwhelming amount of people! On a weekday you can appreciate the New York-esque decor and vibe.

Bagel: 4.0 Toppings etc: -0.7…read morePrice: -0.8 Wait: -0.8 Founder's story: 0.5 Total Score: 2.2 I've seen alot of hype about this place on social media so randomly decided to give it a try while in Madison. The whole experience reminds me of the 1980s movie "The Experts" (the flick where John Travolta met his late wife). Basically this cold war era movie has a couple of dudes trying to run clubs in NYC get kidnaped by the KGB and sent to Russia where they have a whole town of KGB agents living like Americans - but it wasn't quite right..it was like 30 years earlier in a random town in the Midwest (much like Madison, Wisconsin). That's the best way to describe it. Some of the vibe was there, but there was just something off about it. First thing that was a shock - the price! egg & cheese bagel: $9.00 . For reference, Bagel Boss on Long Island is just over $5.00. I get it - bagels are a scarcity in Madison Wisconsin (as is any decent food, but that's a different conversation) while it's a commodity in NYC metro area. I asked the woman why the sign for the menu shows $8.75 and she said they raised the prices. Well, any self-respecting yankee knows a bagel place should either have: 1) prices in different colors written on a black board, or 2) prices with the numbers and letters that can be changed on a board. Next, I was baffled by how long it took and how long i had to wait for bagels. That doesn't fly on the east coast. Look, I get alot of the university is kids from NYC metro area so you have to cater to them so a bagel shop is important. As for the bagels - looked okay at first, but the egg and cheese was really weird...it was mostly white with like an overcooked almost hard boiled yolk and i think they butter the bagels beforehand. Secondly for a scallion cream cheese bagel it showed the true shortcoming of the bagel where the exterior had a good crunch but the interior wasnt chewy it was too hard so when you try to separate the bagel it kinda of breaks. the taste isn't quite right. Anyway they deserve credit since the founder mentions Hot Bagels in Fairlawn in his story and met with Jaques Pepin who is awesome. I'll probably pass on returning as I kinda really dig Bagels Forever in Madison.

It was Thursday evening and they had a ribs/pulled pork special. We waited about 10 minutes at the bar for a table. The bar and atmosphere is great. Pretty bar lights and an old wood bar. We were seated by the window with a great view of the capital. My daughter and I shared the rib dinner and had plenty of food for us. Our waitress was new and learning but was doing a good job. I'd definitely come back.

The waitress was quick to come over bringing menus and taking our drink order. We order the cheese curds of course and the cheese plate. Visiting from Florida so I can't really speak on the curds. We all thought they were tasty. For our main course two of us had burgers all claimed they were well prepared and tasty, Mac n cheese was dry, spinach salad with salmon was fresh and flavorful. I had the wedge salad which was over a half head of fresh crispy lettuce. Two dressings combo so refreshing. The cheese tray was nice for $14.00. Overall service was great and the food was good.
