I like Korean Korner for the same reasons that Su. K does. Although I've never got anything catered from them for my events, I have tried the items that Su K. has offered at his events. Yes, the Kim Bop, Temperas, Chap Chae, and finger foods were yummy! I'd also like to say thanks to Su K. for the tip on expiration dates. Yes, check those dates! So about the store. It's small. It's smelly and gets smellier as you head towards the back (where all the seafood is located). The floors seem dirty a lot. The shopping baskets seem shady (they look soiled). What I do like is that they are conveniently located next to my favorite thrift store Unique Bazaar. I don't mind shopping at Korean Korner when I just need a few small items. I think the prices are comparable to any Korean owned Asian mart. A part of the store which I once loved is located all the way back pass the glass counters to the left corner of the store. There is a little corner with Sanrio and Korean anime items that are comparable to Sanrio. While these businesses in the back are separate from the main store they carry nice things like origami papers and containers for your origami creations. Oh and a couple of random things: 1) Don't buy American products here. It's way overpriced. I got Ricotta Cheese and Sour Cream here and it cost almost a dollar more than Giant for the same stuff. 2) They also sell LARD! By the tubs! Best ingredient for making flaky pie crusts. 3) I imagine that people in wheelchairs could has access, but I wouldn't suggest it without help getting the chair over the first partitions in the front of the store (these are the ones Su K. finds troublesome). 4) I think the prices for Salmon are nice. They also have Salmon Roe which I don't find that often at the H Mart or Lotte closest to here. read more

THis is a place for fresh produce (period) Since they seem to always been crowded, the turn over for food is pretty high. This hence causes the produce to be pretty fresh. As for the restaurant in there, depending on what you order, it's pretty good. :) As for the Kim Chee.. probably the best in the MD area. As as some people have said, since they are kind of on the smaller size... they can't compete with super H-Mart for selection. read more

The variety of fresh vegetables is enormous and so cheap and the seafood department has more varieties of fish than your average grocery chain. This is mainly a Asian grocery store but they have everything from tortillas to ox tails. They also have a little Korean eatery that serves authentic Korean food. read more

Had a craving for kim bop like whoa so i drove up to Silver Spring to retrieve some. Twas good. I picked up a few other items which were priced accordingly. I enjoyed the selection of pay by the pound korean side dishes (sorry, not cultured enough to know what they're called) as well as the frozen selection of dumplings. There is a ton of stuff here. When we went the oranges were super cheap and so was a lot of the produce. You can buy prepared Korean food here, tofu, Mexican breads, a ton of sauces, noddles, canned goods, spices, kimchi (even ones with no msg), and more. Great store, fair prices, yes it's crammed, but that's just how the grocery store is. Oh fyi you should bring your own shopping bags because they charge for bags. Pros: + Small but good selection, was able to find most of what I needed + Beef brisket is affordable and in general meat section looks good, good selection + They carry an excellent selection of tea including matcha, loose sencha, and other teas + Extensive and reasonably-priced kitchenware section + Beer/wine section is nice/convenient + I had questions and was able to get answers quickly and locate people to help me Cons: - Very small, narrow aisles and just a few people can make it difficult to navigate - Dark and dated, could use at least a minor refresh/renovation - Parking lot can get wild and I urge all of you to BE CAREFUL because it can be a sh*t show... - Prices do seem somewhat average, though not horrible I give this more of a 3.5/5 but will round up to 4. I feel good supporting a local business but ultimately this place is small and does need an update. It can be a little stressful because of the small size when there are crowds so I'd recommend going in the morning or at non-peak times to minimize stress. BTW - The ready-made Korean food bar has delicious Gosari side-dish and it was sooooo good. Awesome addition to my soup. I always love independent owner store. This place have most of everything that I need, since I cook mostly Japanese and Korean meals every day. Fresh veggies, fruit, selection of fish and sea foods. LOVE this market. Great for specialty asian/hispanic produce and pantry items, meat/fish (with a large selection of non-conventional cuts). They also have food freshly prepared there if you want lunch! I totally food nerded out here. This is THE grocery store. Like everyone says, it's got fresh, cheap produce of every possible kind and the friendly people will share recipes with you as they shop, just ask. The wide variety of tofu and fish are also inexpensive and of good quality. I love the huge variety of dumplings, teas and spices. It's a total adventure! My favorite Saturday is to shop at the huge nearby thrift store (lots of treasures) and then drop off items at the cheap dry cleaners next to KK. The parking lot is big so you can always find parking. Then, I go have lunch at the little Korean restaurant in the corner -- everything is delicious, cheap and filling. I shop and head home with ingredients for just about any dish I'd want to make whether it's Indian, Thai or French. I tend to be a hard grader but this one gets all five stars! read more

I remember Korean Korner when I visited MD 10 years ago. Apparently nothing has changed. Same ole Korean Korner. The place is still a bit dirty& the equipment and layout is a bit outdated...but whatever. The one thing that surprised me is that almost everyone who shops whenever I go to the store is not Korean. I felt like a minority shopping in another ethnic grocery store lol. We eat a lot of rice at our house so before I found Korean Korner, we were buying tons of crappy rice from Giant. This place carries Nishiki for a reasonable price - which is what we usually eat. This location at Viers Mill and Randolph Road is a steady staple. Easily accessible from Georgia or Connecticut Avenues, it is your traditional Asian market. The seafood is fresh, the produce inexpensive, and the selection of specialty items is extensive. I come here to stock my pantry with ginger tea, sweet chili sauce, rice noodles, black beans, Badia Complete Sazon seasoning. I fill my fridge with snow peas, baby broccoli, and all the fixings for guacamole - green onions, shallots, green and red bell pepper. The prices here are great, and I also like to get the thinly sliced beef, steam it quick with soy and bok choy. I recommend going on a weekday because the weekends are crowded. There is a competitor in H Mart on Georgia Avenue. Korean Korner also sells frozen choclo - a type of Inca/Peruvian corn. read more

Why are the cashiers so rude? I mean I am all for 'no small talk and long conversations', but they can at least tell you the price of your grocceries -_-! Also, a small "thank you" is not difficult... It would show you appreciate the purchase! I really have strong anxiety, and I dread coming into this Korean Korner because I am expecting things to be unpleasant. Even when I have a good experience there, the check-out crew always dampens my mood. I'm a robot gal (likes robots), but if there's people working there it's disturbing when they act like MACHINES! I mean so very unpleasant. Can't we just have self-check outs if the cashiers refuse to speak to customers at all?! On a plus, one of the store stockers was very helpful and friendly. Our first choice for fresh seafood and produce. Diverse customers. They play fun Fifties music on the weekends. You have to spend more than $5 to use a debit or credit card. People are nice, especially when you speak to them in Korean. But I don't think they know how to make food in bulk. I ordered kam poon gi for 15 people. I was EXCITED! We get to church, and open it up, and it looks like General Tso's. Mind you, I am a fan of the General, and when it comes to ranked chicken, I like it as much as his American Colonel counterpart. So I thought, ok it must just look like Gen Tso's, but taste like kam poon gi. I WAS WRONG! Tasted like day old chinese... It is H Mart or bust from now on... The store was unclean, the produce was more expensive than H Mart, the clientele was pushy and rude, the fish smelled fishy and in general it was "Acceptable" but was lacking in anything special to suggest it was a better bet than H Mart. I first started shopping at Korean Korner almost 20 years ago and it's been in a slow decline for the last 10 years, giving more real estate to beer sales, latin groceries and sales of the same old same old products. If Asian markets are new to you, you could drop $100 on frozen red bean products you don't find at safeway, but I'm saying until they mop the floors and clean the dirt off the shelves, I'm not coming back. read more

Well, I will admit, I am Korean. And I say, of all the Korean Super Grocery stores around, this is the BEST place hands down for their LA SHORT RIBS... If you are a fan of Korean Style LA short ribs this is the best place to purchase them. Do not go to H mart, Do not goto Grand Mart, Do not go to Lotte, Do not pass go... whatever. Korean Korner has the best short ribs ever~~~ They cut their ribs really thick and their meat is more tender for some reason. I think it's in the way they marinade these BAD BOYS. (i even asked the ah juh ssi if i can buy some of their home made marinade... he said NO!!!) the meat is so tender that even the tendons can be chewed off the bone and eaten. Did I mention they cut their meat thick? Let me explain. If you don't cut it thick, after you grill it, it shrinks. and other grocery store's LA rib, the meat falls off the bone and shreds... That is just BAD... But this place does not do that. it stays on the bone at least a qurater to half inch thick and juicy and tenber... and at the price of $4 - $5 per lb (about 3 pieces) you cannot beat it for quality, price, value and TASTE!!! well, usually they recommend grilling these things over charcoal flames or your outdoor grills. But i think the best way to cook them (which i have had to do out of necessity due to lack of grilling space and the time it takes to cook them on the grill and uneven cooking on the meat and the meat burning without cooking throughly, and the amount that can be cooked at the same time in the stove is just more so we don't have to make batches after batches and everyone can enjoy at once) is to put them in your stove oven or your toaster oven. (about 400' for 15 - 20 mins and they won't burn!!!) This is the only way I cook them now instead of grillin them over flame. because what happens is similar to what they do at those restaurants in hawaii where they kinda like deep fry the short ribs. The juices and marinade and fat wells up around the meat in your stove pans, and it cooks the meat without drying it out! because of this fact, it won't BURN like it does on a grill. I love grilling. But with LA short ribs, This is the ONLY way i will cook them. Put foil on your stove pan, place the ribs, 400 for bout 15 - 20 minutes. cut the meat into three equal pieces... and just pure bliss.... and the best thing is, let the pan cool, and throw away the foil. very clean and not a lot of washing or cleaning. Oh btw, yesterday i had guests over, and i had placed a second batch of LA short ribs in to the stove and FORGOT ABOUT THEM FOR ABOUT 30 + minutes... DAM OVER TIME US CANADA HOCKEY... my wife was like, HONEY THE RIBS!!! O O !!!! i came upstairs and checked and they were not burnt at ALL!!!! because there was still moisture and juices and fat welled up around it. and it cooked the meat in such way that some guests preferred that batch more than the previous batch... find your style, and enjoy... i have gotten a lot of compliments from my fellow koreans on the way i cooked these bad boys. Parking here is THE WORST. I do my Asian grocery shopping at Hmart and Great Wall but I'll stop by here occasionally for a quick bite. Just walk in and turn left past the cashiers and then left at the end- ta da! Secret eating area! I get their soondubu or bulgogi. People, keep your receipts. This shop refuses to exchange spoiled product if you haven't it. So if you buy something which packed say in plastic and which you can't open and check in store then you may be not fortunate. I had the bad experience with them. I have bought carrots there which packed in plastic bag and found that it is all mushed and rotten when I got home. Then I got back there next day and asked to exchange for good one. I was refused because I couldn't put down my receipt. They definitely see by brand that it is their product, and I pick up 1 bag from their shelf and showed them that this one spoiled same way like 1 I brought in. But they didn't budge. Korean Korner is okay, I guess. I don't know about their catered foods, but I was disappointed in the quality of the produce and the meat. I usually go to H Mart, and I have to say that after checking out Korean Korner, I'll probably stick to H Mart. The chives looked like they were beyond death, and the green onions were dried out. What a great place. I'll address some of the things being said about Korean Korner. First, the "dirty floors" Yes, its dirty but if you want some speck and span supermarket chain, Giant is about a mile down the road. Second, its crowded, crowded is good, as a foodie I have two rules when searching for restaurants 1. Make sure the place is busy, means turnover less likely food poisoning (I have been proven wrong on this theory). 2. Make sure the culture of the food is represented by its customers, if your going to a Afghan restaurant make sure there are actually Afghan customers eating there. That being said I love everything about this market. Its a hidden hole in the wall restaurant in the back. Its some of the best seafood soup I have ever had. As someone mentioned the portion size and price is great. I don't know about you but I'm sick of seeing franchises everywhere that "borrow" cultures and provide their version of a terrible over sauced, over cheesed factory product we call food. I'll put up with the dirty floors, stinky seafood food department, and over crowded market anytime just to have peace of mind knowing McDonald's didn't play a part in my fruit or soup selection. read more

This review is for the restaurant at Korean Korner and not the supermarket, which is aight.... Wifey and I agree that they restaurant makes great ghetto Korean comfort food, which is really the only way good Korean food should be. We typically only get two things - the kal gook su and the gahm jah tang - but they both ALWAYS hit the spot. Sure the decor could be better and the feel can be best described as hole-in-the wall. But as the working class clientele who fill the restaurant will tell you, the food is cheap and and the Korean grandma who works there make some damn satisfying K-food. Outside of Adam Express, this is probably the best Korean food within a 20 minute drive of where we live in DC. read more

This is a great place for Asian specialty ingredients if you do that type of cooking. They also have very reasonable prices on produce, meat and fish which should appeal to a general audience. If you are very particular about organic, non-GMO, etc. though, this may not be a place for you to do your weekly shopping. The selection of soy sauces can be a bit overwhelming. One of the best buys for the general public might be their Maxim brand packets of instant hot and iced coffee. It's a fraction of the price of Starbucks Via and pretty comparable in taste. Don't expect much help from the staff, especially if English is your only language. read more

Fantastic selection of international foods - I just needed some dals for Indian cooking, and I left with a whole basket of foods I've never been able to find elsewhere. The seafood counter in the back is wonderful - the fish are out for your inspection in baskets in ice, and all the varieties I looked at were fresh with plump eyes and bright gills. Area didn't smell fishy even with all the fish uncovered, which is a good sign. I also liked that they marked which were farm raised and which were wild caught. You pick your own fish, and then ask for cleaning/gutting only, or chopping, or filleting. No wondering where the pre-filleted fish in the package came from or how long it's been there. As others have mentioned, great produce and good prices on the other meat as well. Parking is empty behind the building instead of in front - not sure why nobody thinks to do that. read more

The most food here is very good. Prices are very low. Spicy Tofu soup and beef short rib soup are two things I regularly get from here.

They have a good seafood market but otherwise not very impressive nor clean. Limited produce options.

KK is, if nothing else, an entertaining cultural experience. For the food they have.... it's priced right and pretty good in quality. Good cheap pork chops. The aisles could be bigger for the crowd they get. Parking often sucks (hint... park in back and walk around). Good fish market... though you have to be careful. I've gotten fish I had to throw out. Stay away from the big bags o' chicken. It's seldom fresh. They have good selection of super-cheap wine. I can't do all my shopping there... but go there about once a week.
