The Emperor. The name conjures up regal images and connections. Concerto. Of a kingdom. Penguin!!…read more Well, the Emperor restaurant in Stonecot Hill has a regal reputation and whatever day of the week you plan to dine here, I would strongly advise booking as this restaurant is very popular. They have quite a unique menu - you pay one price and you can then order any dishes from their extensive menu as often as you want. Yes, you really can. There is a wide choice - there are all the usual Anglo-Canto favourites as well as more unusual dishes such as prawns on sugar cane. I've been here many times with friends and it's so great that everyone can order what they like and if they want more, just order more. The starters are particularly strong. Then most people would follow with crispy aromatic duck with pancakes or Mongolian lamb in lettuce leaves as a middle course. Main courses can be served with rice or noodles. One dish that you should have is the sizzling beef - super tender. Included in the price for dessert are lychees and toffee banana or apple with vanilla ice cream. You can order special ice cream creations for extra charge. The staff are always very friendly and will be happy to help you select dishes. I also like the calming videos of scenes from diving on their big flat screen TVs Not as cute an emperor penguins but an excellent Chinese restaurant

They have a set price menu which you can order as much as you like from. You won't find any cheap fillers here, it's all great quality, fresh seafood and meats with plenty of veggie options. Also included in the price is aromatic duck (1/4, 1/2, whole depending on party size). A couple of recommendations are the salt & pepper squid - (oh, so good!) and peached king prawns - they're addictive. The price is £17 for adults and £11 for children. This is great value and we will keep coming back. You'll need to book as this place gets very busy. Your booking is also for a 2 hr sitting, so it's not ideal for a long meal - but definitely worth a visit! They also do a buffet on a Sunday which is always popular.

Bayee Village has been producing reliable, tasty Chinese food in Wimbledon for decades and there is a sister restaurant in Putney. The decor is great, from the 2 stone lions guarding the entrance to the large fish tank and Chinese lanterns inside. You are also always assured of a warm welcome and better service than in many Chinatown restaurants. The food is a mixture of Peking (north) and Szechuan (southwest) cuisine. The house speciality is seafood and if your budget can stretch, you won't be disappointed with the lobster and spring onion on a bed of crispy noodles, steamed whole sea bass with ginger and spring onion, kung po king prawns with sweet chilli sauce and garlic and soft shell crab with fresh chilli pepper and garlic salt. The other non seafood dishes are also good. A good solid local Chinese restaurant.

It was fresh, full of flavours and it even felt as though i was eating healthy food! I had a gorgeous aubergine dish that was gorgeous and their crispy duck was really tasty as well as their cashew nut dishes. We had some really nice wine here as well. The decor is quite strange, with a classic piano and aquarium in the restaurant but i guess it gave us something to look at while we waited...and we were waiting for quite a while...maybe this is a good sign as it made me think everything was being cooked freshly from scratch, otherwise they were just being really slow. The service of the waiters was a little on the slow side but luckily we weren't in a rush. The prices were all pretty reasonable as well. I will return if i'm in the area.

Don't be put off though, because inside it's a proper old fashioned restaurant with white napkins and tablecloths. They don't do dim sum any more, but have a familiar Chinese menu with Szechuan specialities, including some of the more challenging spicy offal dishes. But there are plenty of familiar favourites for the less adventurous. It's frequented by local Chinese families, which is always a good sign. Staff are friendly and efficient. Expect two courses with coffee and wine to be about £25-30 a head.

The dim sum menu has only restarted in the last year and a half when they got in a new chef. The service is always prompt and courteous. Kids will be fascinated by the large fish tank and water wheel feature. The preponderence of Chinese clientele tells its own story - we are very fussy when it comes to food. The food is of good quality, quantity and ingredients - large prawns in har gau and cheong fun, crispy pastry for the char siew sow and lovely roasted meats. The food isn't greasy, a common problem for lower quality dim sum places. The pastry skins are all thin for the steamed dishes and crispy for the fried dishes. They lose a star for a slightly small menu with some old favourites missing like siu loong bow and shark fin dumpling. Also, they used to serve suckling pig and it's still on the menu but no longer available. They also do an evening menu but I can't really comment on that. It's a great place for dim sum and what they do have on the menu is first class.
