This was the place they were reffering to. Something of a cult hit in the area, Gourmet Buffet earnt a repuatation for being good, being cheap and then hosting karaoke if you take a party of 15 with you. I havent seen the karaoke machine out recently, mostly because I go there for 5 pound lunch, because dinner only has peking duck and a couple of rather nice dishes extra for 10 or 11 pounds. Go, take some friends, call in advance on 020 8640 1115 to book the karaoke machine as you have to eat here and can't just turn up for a sing. I dont reccomend seeing if you can make some racist comments to see if Good Shoes were right, but if you do go say hi to Chinese 'Dave' who is a huge man who always makes me laugh and has a warmth that brings regular customers each and every evening!

Once the beer/wine has kicked in with the tasty buffet meal you will find yourself drawn to join in the fun, and before you know it the night is drawing to a close (all too soon) and all of you and your mates have decided it's a great idea to all get up and sing Bohmemium Rhapsody. A solid good night out - make sure you book in advance though as it is a popular night out

Don't be put off though, because inside it's a proper old fashioned restaurant with white napkins and tablecloths. They don't do dim sum any more, but have a familiar Chinese menu with Szechuan specialities, including some of the more challenging spicy offal dishes. But there are plenty of familiar favourites for the less adventurous. It's frequented by local Chinese families, which is always a good sign. Staff are friendly and efficient. Expect two courses with coffee and wine to be about £25-30 a head.

The dim sum menu has only restarted in the last year and a half when they got in a new chef. The service is always prompt and courteous. Kids will be fascinated by the large fish tank and water wheel feature. The preponderence of Chinese clientele tells its own story - we are very fussy when it comes to food. The food is of good quality, quantity and ingredients - large prawns in har gau and cheong fun, crispy pastry for the char siew sow and lovely roasted meats. The food isn't greasy, a common problem for lower quality dim sum places. The pastry skins are all thin for the steamed dishes and crispy for the fried dishes. They lose a star for a slightly small menu with some old favourites missing like siu loong bow and shark fin dumpling. Also, they used to serve suckling pig and it's still on the menu but no longer available. They also do an evening menu but I can't really comment on that. It's a great place for dim sum and what they do have on the menu is first class.

In the Malaysian tradition of discussing food, one of my Malaysian friends told me about Noodle House. Could it really be true? A restaurant/takeaway serving authentic Malaysian located but a mere 2 miles from my house. So it was with fevered excitement that I arrived at Noodle House. When I explained that I had heard that they served Malaysian food, they produced a special menu with Malaysian dishes. They also have a conventional Chinese menu. As I scanned the menu, a broad smile came over my face and yes, my heart skipped a beat. The street food favourites were all there, ranging from rojak (mixed fruit salad with thick spicy peanut/prawn paste) to Indian mee rebus to home made soya bean milk. In the name of Yelp research, I'm eating my way through their menu. A couple of average dishes but in general, this is the real thing. Absolutely top notch singapore laksa, wat tan ho, hokkien char mee and pasembur. I'm smiling even as I write this review!

The food is amazing regardless if it's eat-in or takeaway. Everything is always fresh and tastes wonderful. This is one of the most underrated places to eat in Sutton.
