Quite possibly the 'koolest' shop in Little Tokyo! Located right next to the main parking garage elevators, Kools is a small store filled with eclectic charm! It's literally a visual wonderland of biker/rockabilly/retro awesomeness! There's both men's and women's clothing options. Take the time to check out their rad shirts~ the designs are amazing! There's also tons of accessories and fun items that you just won't find anywhere else, so take the time to really check everything out! Price point is about average for similar shops in the Village~ not cheap but won't break the bank either. I don't mind paying for quality and uniqueness~ that's why I love shopping here! Kools Clothing Store is a small shop inside the Little Tokyo shopping village. Ive been inside a few times, but my last two visits here were more pleasant, since I had a chance to meet the shop owner. Forgive me for drawing a blank, as I can't remember his name, possibly 'Masako' but he is japanese, speaks English well and is knowledgeable about every product in his store. After learning that probably 99% of the products are designed and made here in USA, specifically in LA, I liked coming here more. There's something special about supporting local businesses and hand crafted by locals, I like it and it gets my vote. There's apparel and accessories for women, but mostly for men, and it is kind of retro cool but current of our fashion times. Fun to browse through and No doubt, something big or small, whether it has a provocative exploitive message or not, will catch your attention, because it is cool...KooL ! I just prefer it printed on T-shirts or in frames on my wall. since I was in fifth grade I've been obsessed with pinup girls which is all about the 50s ! I love rockabilly punk 50's and greaser stuff ! That's pretty much everything that's in the store it's so KOOL ! I walked in with my mom she said gross it smells like cigarettes in here. I first discovered this place back in Dec '22 where I purchased a shirt for a friend. Revisited back in October since I was in the area and my girlfriend and I noticed one of the associates was watching us heavily and standing by the door. It got to the point it made us uncomfortable, I thought nothing of it, so we decided to leave. Once again I come to visit in December since my friend's birthday is late in the month and sure enough the same employee is watching us and standing in front of the door. We had just only walked in and my girlfriend had picked up a $30 shirt and was comparing sizes. We go from one side of the small store to the other and another associate asks if we would like for her to take the shirt to the front, not even a minute into the store. I work in loss prevention and this is not the way to go about it, Kools needs to do better with their employees. read more

Kools is a retro chic shop that offers some of the most original digs in Little Tokyo. Definitely has a rockabilly vibe and whether or you're into that scene or not, I'm sure there will be something that will catch your attention. What caught my attention was all the vintage inspired monster gear displayed all over the store. Then I found the most adorable Miss Ladybug cropped sweater and had to purchase it and I threw in some cute Blue Q 'Fight Like a Girl' socks while I was at it. Other brands they feature include Rat Fink, Freddies of Pinewood, BAIT Footwear, Burnout, Bunta Tattoos, Boneyard Artillery, Layrite hair products, Katt Mercy Designs, some vintage Hawaiian shirts, pin-up style clothing, lots of original Kools designs and so much more. Aside from clothing, they also had flasks, art, belts, hats, women's accessories, and cool nick nacks throughout the store. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2017 - PART 3: 5/100 How would I describe it other than it being a rebel store in the middle of Japanese Village Plaza? It really is different compared to other stores nearby. They have a lot of unique merchandise to look at - items you won't find so easily in other stores (or at least, nowhere in this vicinity!) You're sure to find something that'll catch your eye soon as you walk in. Their products vary from clothing to wallets to bags to sunglasses and then some. I ended up walking out with a brand new belt. (I wasn't even looking for one, but I had to have it.) I had to get outta there quick. Superkool rockabilly/vintage/pinup store in Little Tokyo!!! Brought my dad in with me while visiting my home state since he was a 50's child. I think he had more fun shopping than my grown daughter. There were a lot of mens fashion options from shirts, to jackets and belts etc. Ended up with a Miss Ladybug vintage inspired tee for me and a Kools samurai tee for my husband. I definitely recommend stopping by since this was my favorite store in Little Tokyo. Only downsides are prices are a little higher and the lady working there spent the entire time talking with other people she seemed like she knew(owners maybe?) instead of asking if we needed help finding sizes. I guess it's more trendy to spell the word "cool" with the letter k, rather than it's original intention. Old school K-Pop band Cool (Kul:), with tons of hits starting in the mid 90's, would sometimes use an alternate version. Back in the days when I used to smoke cigarettes, I would often purchase a pack of Kool menthol and pretend that it was the IN thing to do. As of late, the only Kools that I would even consider in my life would be this shop at the Japanese Village Plaza. If you blink while strolling thru this shopping center, you're gonna totally miss it, like I've done for the last few years. During, my last visit, I happened to notice it while nonchalantly munching on a imagawayaki and staring out into nowhere. It's a vintage clothing and accessory store that caters to that rock slash punk look. The venue is small enough to get lost, but not big enough to waste time. The item that caught my eye was their custom t-shirts. Not really my style, but I can imagine a few of my friends sporting that look very well. Made me want to shave my head and get inked, on a very off day of course. In conjunction with the store, the workers are very chill and hip. They'll bother you when you ask and will leave you alone if you're browsing. It's not a normal store that you would picture at a mall like this. This is definitely the coolest store in the Japanese Village, at least in my opinion. It's rather refreshing to see a rebel store like this in the midst of Sanrio and other cutesy, knick knack stores. The store looks more like it belongs on Melrose Avenue. It has a rockabilly theme with a bit of Japanese pop culture mixed in. There are lots of cool clothes, accessories, and pomades. It even carries some rock t-shirts in kids size. Isn't it ironic that this place is called Kools? In a *I'm a blond, valley-type of girl* moment, I'm saying, "is this like, ya know, like, as in the word, COOL, place, to like, shop?" The "cool" consignment store is nice and the staff are friendly, but I'm not a fan. For little usage of hand me down stuff, I like what they carry in a rock, edgy, and trendy type of style. However, prices like that...not in a million years will I buy anything here if I can get better finds elsewhere in LA. Much more, Hollywood has better freakish-looking apparel. SIDE NOTE FIRST!! 95% of their products are owned by small businesses- BUY FROM THEM NOT HERE!!! I went in to look and as I was checking out, I was accused of stealing. When asked, I refused to let them check my bag, and immediately was threatened by an Asian man in his mid 40s, presumably the owner, that he was going to beat me if I did not show him the contents of my bag. I went to try to leave, and was immediately shoved by an Asian woman in her mid 30s, and locked inside the store. I finally allowed them to check my bag and was immediately dismissed. Along with this, for the entire duration of my stay in the store, the woman stood at the door, and stared at me. This is only speculation, but upon looking at the names of other individuals harassed at this location, most seem to be traditional Hispanic names. I myself am also Hispanic, and I am completely speculating, but patterns do speak louder than words. read more

Owner or worker around 9pm on 8/15/15 was completely rude and unprofessional. I walked into the store because it looked like a really cool place. Saw a piece of clothing that I thought a friend of mine would really like, so I took a picture of it. The worker then yelled at me and said "could you fuckin ask?" At first I thought it was a joke, but then he continued yelling and rambling on about how I should have asked before I took a picture. If he had simply said, "Excuse me, no pictures allowed," I would have been completely fine with it. But, the fact that he was so rude about it really took me for surprise. And finally, the kicker. Not that the clothes/items sucked, but I found their merchandise to be ho-hum. It's like the Hot Topic of Little Tokyo but with a slight rockabilly edge. So why did I come here 3x?? Because the girl who works here is really ridiculously cute. Tattooed up, and stylish. Damn! I'd totally hang out with her on her day off and even pay for her shot.. just one shot mind you. My boyfriend thinks I'm an 'omnivore' now.. if you know what I mean. Expect pricing here to match that of Hot Topic too, so belts, hats, wallets, tops, etc, can range anywhere from $12-$60 or more. All right, this place rocks. We found exactly what we were looking for, and the crazy thing is, we had no idea what we were looking for in the first place. It's that kind of place. We were at the end of my bro's shopping list. One adult and two kids to buy xmas presents for. And of course, I had my eye open for anything that caught it. Like cool belt buckles. I think I can safely say I'm a belt buckle collector. I've got 6-10 really awesome buckles, from an old Iron Maiden 'Eddie' buckle, to a boom box buckle with antennae that pokes me in the stomach when I sit down, to a crazy jeweled crown buckle I picked up in Korea. Cool's had some cool buckles as well. I got a silver revolver buckle with a red handle, and a hand carved wood buckle of fish swimming, really beautiful. I had no idea I was looking for those, but when I found them, my shopping soul was filled. And Mike found a wool jacket for a friend of ours, something that just screamed his name at us. I rolled into Cools after having lunch in Little Tokyo Village. Cool shit everywhere! Shirts, hats, glass pipes, and other knick knacks! A tad on the trendy side but F' it....I am a LEO and I can pull anything off! I bought 2 tee shirts with these cartoon tattoed chicks in rockabilly motif. Clearly, way too old to wear it but it not as bad as my "Real Guys Wear Pink" Tee. Anywhoo....Please don't confuse confidence with my lack of self awareness. On the inside, I am young and beautiful. However, I sometimes need to fill the holes in my life with a cool belt or new shirt do the trick. This is the place.
