Raggedy Threads is my favorite vintage store in L.A. - no contest. Don't let this tiny little store - located in a tiny little corner of Little Tokyo - fool you: It's like a treasure trove of rare finds. I've been on a huge vintage kick lately, so this store has been my go-to source for old tees. My reasons for going vintage are primarily environmental since the carbon footprint and resources needed to make new clothes are substantial - and incredibly wasteful when there's so much awesome used clothing out there. Another reason: Your friends can't copy your style. Most recently, I picked up a few tees from the 1970s and 80s. Being in L.A. they get a lot of local and California vintage shirts with logos, designs, and jokes that only true Californians would get. I couldn't resist buying a Castroville "Giant Artichoke" tee they had over the summer. Personally, I tend to gravitate towards regional finds like these because they bring back such great memories of my youth and of family road trips up and down my home state. They also carry old college (Go Bears!), high school, and everyone's favorite - summer camp tees. Plus, you cannot beat the vintage fit from the 70s/80s. Caveat: Today's "S" is equivalent to an "M" or bigger because people were presumably thinner back then. So do your part for the environment and look effortlessly stylish doing it by shopping used and vintage! And there's no better place in L.A. for this than Raggedy Threads. read more

Raggedy Threads is the perfect name for this place, because I noticed a huge chunk of their overpriced merchandise rocked holes. I guess it's trendy? I popped in and out of this place in five minutes. I was unimpressed with their overpriced "vintage" clothing. Literally one of their t-shirts was just a Hanes white tee with I love LA scribbled in sharpie. The price tag? Somewhere between $20-40. Many similar items had price tags boasting costs upwards of $70. I found my entire short stop here laughable. They do have some interesting and unique items, but overall it's just completely overpriced, and quite frankly, over hyped. I honestly don't understand who spends money here. read more

Really great stuff here, but starting to get frustrated with their hours. We showed up at 12:15pm (on a Sunday) and the place wasn't open yet? Gates drawn and everything? This is the second time this has happened in the last couple of months, too - the other time arrived around the same time and same story. If you "open at noon", you should be open at noon. read more

This is an excellent store that is really for the advanced vintage aficionado. I love browsing, even if I don't buy, because there is so much interesting-ness. Now, there have been some people who have complained about the fact that things are tattered and stained...but this is really for a higher order vintage customer. There are also people who complain about price...but this is because most likely their major clientelle are Asians from overseas--mostly Japanese--who have a ton of money to burn. If you are into mint or dead stock type goods or trendy items, go to some place like Buffalo Exchange. My favorite place in LA will always be American Rag, mainly because it's just a bigger selection that gets cleared out every season. But this place is a counterpoint--a boutique of coolness. And yeah, I'm annoyed at the people who think that they're know-it-alls and trash such a great little rag outpost because it's aesthetic and price point are beyond them. This place is mostly for rich Asians on a shopping jaunt. We've got the money to shell out and we're really not trying to save a few bucks. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH. I first found it five years ago on a whim. My friends and I, back home from the first break in college, explored some museums nearby and walked by this place. I searched around for a bit and ended up getting this gorgeous 1950s dress (i'll add pictures once i figure that out) Years later, I put that dress on for a function post-grad, and I think back to this place. I searched for a good hour or two, scouring the web and my memory and la-di-da, found Raggedy Threads once more. I stopped by the next day and picked up a bomb-ass burnt sienna colored suede jacket. It's so rad. The people who own it are the coolest people ever. 10/10 recommend. Keep in mind that these are high quality stuff, so the price points reflect that. read more

I came here on a whim while I was walking to Wurstkuche, and boy, am I a happy customer. I DID however, end up spending... too much here. I bought a vintage camera with several lenses, two bags and two necklaces. Man oh man did those few items rack up quickly. I love the feel of this place and the great customer service. The owner offered to patch up the lining of one of the bags I bought since it was starting to wear down. So nice of her! Looking back, I'm hesitant to go back out of fear and concern for my wallet. Well, this time, my sister, Regina S.' wallet was the victim, since she bought me most of the stuff for a present. She's so gosh-darn nice. HEHE. But if I go back, I might be compelled to buy more. "A Treasure Adventure" I was so BUMMED when I heard Raggedy Threads was moving to LA! This lovely little shoppe was a local favorite of mine and one of my best kept secrets...hidden and a totally unexpected find in the city of Covina. They carry both new and recycled clothing and accessories for men and women...funky duds from the 70s/80s era, western-style pearl snap button-downs that I LOVE, retro furniture and decor...it's an absolute treasure adventure for me. Keep in mind, "Vintage" does NOT mean Thrift, so don't expect to pay thrift store prices. Pieces run from $10-$40. They just had their final moving sale two weekends ago and I was able to score a few cute pieces for half-off! Yay for vintage bargain shopping! One of the best vintage/thrift shop experiences I've ever had. The selection of menswear and accessories here is small but extremely well-curated, cutting mountains of time and trouble from the usual thrift/vintage experience. Prices are very reasonable for the fabric quality and authentic style, but do not expect to come in here and spend $20 on a couple of ironic t-shirts and call it a day. Button ups range from $20-40 and t-shirts from $15-30. Today was my luck day - I got first pick from a freshly selected batch of button ups that the owner, Jaime, kindly laid out for me. I then proceeded to try on half of the store (because Jaime's fashion sense is that good), and she created one of the most welcoming atmosphere's I've ever experienced in a clothing store. All in all a great experience and one of the best vintage shops in LA. If only those sexy cowboy boots were one size smaller... read more

Great selection! Yeah-- if you're, say, a dood who's 5' 7" and under, with a concave chest and a boy's body. Or you're a 6'2" beanpole who enjoys exposing your midriff and getting your Richard Simmons half-shirt mojo on! (I am neither of these-- I'm a Man, yo! ;OP) Then you can squeeze into these postage-stamp-sized children's clothes, which seem to comprise about 80% of the quote un-quote 'Men's' section... From browsing the racks, apparently the Western Theme is sweeping the nation...again. Sure i dig Western shirts but seriously, talk about a One Note Charlie One Horse Town! I went trigger-happy on dresses my first visit here. In retrospect, I did pay more than I wanted to at first, but my purchases have been well worth the investment. I wear them often, and because they were quality garments, they're still in very good shape. Like other reviewers, I need to stress that this is not a thrift store. The prices won't be dirt cheap, but then again, you're not combing through racks and racks of shitty thrift-store filler either. The owner, who scours the country for good-quality inventory, has an eye for unique pieces. It's a quaint place to shop, and I really enjoyed myself. I got a flyer one day when i was out and about in L.A. for this little vintage clothing/accessory store. My initial attraction to this place is that they carry owl accessories. I love OWLS...and besides that they have really cute dresses and jackets. It's nestled in a small city and very hard to find but great for those saturday afternoon shopping adventures. For a vintage shop, this place had a really great selection of clothing! I would give 5/5 stars, but it's a bit pricey to make me a regular, despite the incredible selection. Firstly, the shop is very clean and tidy without feeling cluttered. The prices were a wide range, but the nicer condition the item was in, the higher the price (understandably). I love 60's/70's clothing and I'm always on the hunt for an "iconic" piece. I found a gorgeous 70's t-shirt that fit me perfectly, and I paid an embarrassing amount of money for it because I loved it so much and it was in just amazing condition. I don't regret my purchase at all, but if you're the kind of shopper who isn't ready to fork a little extra over for that incredible find, then maybe this isn't your kind of vintage shop. I live a block away from this place and by experience i know there is not much else around here thats this cool. If your going to venture to Covina, California its probably best that you come by here and get yourself some cool duds! The owner, Jamie I want to say her name is, is totally awesome, very friendly and sweet. Not the biggest store but tons of variety, accessories, and styles for men and women. NOTE: This is a vintage store not a thrift store(- 1 star)...difference being anywhere from 10-50 bucks more expensive but if you haven't got a lot of time to waste sifting though the ugly styles of the the 70's and 80's then this is your place. read more

Raggedy Threads has been around for close to a decade. From Covina to the Downtown Arts District to its current cozy storefront in Little Tokyo, it's always been a closet staple and secret source for greaaat vintage steals at better than average prices. Given the treasure trove selection of pieces, you can tell the owner Jaime hunts high and low, and hand-selects every item herself. Most vintage stores way over-price their merchandise, but whenever I pop in at Raggedy Threads I seem to always find something both spectacularly unique AND fair in price. What a ridiculously great collection of cute dresses, old boots and leather goodies! On my last trip west I purchased a pair of old westerns that are worn in just enough to almost tell a 40 year story. I've receive many a comments on the story factor of those boots! Also scored an awesome brown suede a-line coat at her last moving sale, which got its solid wear and tear this winter. Summer et al, and once again wearing some of my dresses from there, I'm having a nostalgic episode of walking thru that dear shop! Honestly seems that of all the items in my piecemeal closet, I've managed to get more comments on my Raggedy finds than anything else. And it's daunting, as I've YET to find an East Coast shop that is anywhere comparable in selection and price. )o: So...Miss Raggedy. This is a very welcoming place with a great selection. For vintage clothes, this is probably the cheapest I've ever seen them come. Most of the dresses I saw today ranged around $30-$40. In Brooklyn you'd have to search a bit to go into a vintage store like this and get stuff for these prices....unless its something like Beacons Closet, (which is nice but isn't really a vintage boutique) but Raggedy Threads is different. You can tell there was a lot of care and thought placed into picking what has been placed there. The only con!! I hate to even mention it but.... Someone had mentioned a few reviews down that their men's selection is ill fitted for men. I hate to say but I agree. My boyfriend who is rather thin and tall found items here that he would have loved to buy, but..... I ended up buying for myself =X simply because some of the shirts and some of the jackets are better suited towards women. There are some very nice clothes in the men's section, don't get me wrong, but one too many items, I as a 5'2 lady with a 27 ' waist shouldn't be able to comfortable be able to wear while my thin 6'2-3 boyfriend watches in dismay. Basically the men's sizes available are either too small or short. Most guys I know wouldn't be able to fit in SOME of that stuff. Cute vintage in Covina? That's like saying LA will someday have no smog. It just doesn't seem possible! I always pass by this place on the way to work, and was finally curious enough to venture in. Adorable, unique clothes and good vintage finds. Super friendly staff. I have no idea where they dig up all the stuff they have there. They must have vintage detectives scouring estate sales and thrift stores because these finds are the diamonds in the rough.. the holy crap I can't believe I found this here.. the show it off to your friends because baby, I got it vintage and damn! I look good in it, kinda stuff. This is not a thrift store though! So don't expect thrift store prices. Expect the thrift store JEMS, because the price you are paying is for the time you are saving sifting through all the junk to get to the good stuff. Dresses run $20-$60 (mostly around $30), skirts and tops around $20, jackets around $35. They have some never worn stuff before too. A wonderful find in a really random location. Went to the "moving to the other store" Sale & left with 2 pullovers for winter & a tee for $14! One was a red Mickey Mouse pullover for my stay in bed watching movies all day long typa days. The other was a soft white puffed sleeved sweater shirt that says something in German...tried Googleing what it meant, but no clue. Still cute in my opinion. Lastly I got a white shirt that just says "VIE" in a bright blue color. LOVE sales, Loved the small location. Too bad they are moving to Little Tokyo : / read more

I can only describe this store as magical. Every article has been so thoughtfully sourced that it's curator's vision really shines through on the racks. Vintage kimonos, 70s/80s tanks and tees, industrial workwear--if these clothes could talk. I bought a pair of men's steel toe boots from the fifties that fit me so well I was sure I channeled the original owner the minute I put them on. Well worth the visit! It's a cute shop, but man, is it overpriced for what it is, and all of the clothes seem unusually petite. I enjoy coming in here and browsing the hipstery selection of cotton dresses and vintage accessories, but I've never bought anything here, mostly because I can't justify paying $120 for a plain cotton smock, no matter how pretty the pattern is. read more

I LOVE this place. It is impossible for me to walk out of this store without some sort of gem. Some of my favorite finds are the unique belt buckles, necklaces, and vintage luxury tees.
