Haircuts take around an hour, but coloring services can take over 3 hours and are hard to book. You can book haircuts kind of last minute but book coloring a month in advance if you can!

While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

I was a bit disappointed to see that it looked nothing like the picture and it was fake rose petals which I thought was weird. I'll give them an A for effort though although it looked nothing like the picture. The massage was amazing. She did a really great job. Most of my massages are pretty rough but she did a great job with light to medium pressure. I really liked the glass of champagne and the chocolate truffles. The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.

My five year old was long overdue for a trim, so when Kolorbar quoted $30 for a kids haircut I decided to give this place a try. We ended up all getting a haircut (my daughter, myself and my MIL). Having read the reviews we've asked for Avi, and he did a very good job, especially on my MIL, who also got a single process. All three of us were very happy with how our hair turned out. What I didn't like (and hence the reason for one star off) is that the pricing policy is very confusing: at the checkout I was told that my daughter's haircut was $55 (because she got a "blowout"), and same was for my MIL who's final price was $30 more of what she was quoted when she walked in (she asked for cut and color), because, again, she got a "blowout". I'm putting it in quotation marks, because my MIL has a pixie :) and the reason my daughter ended up with a "blowout" is because she was too scared to have her hair washed the normal "adult" way and they had to straighten it to cut it dry (why they didn't just spray water on her I couldn't understand). Eventually the total was negotiated down and I felt that it was a fair price for the services. However I still think their fee schedule needs to be fixed, or they need to get more careful/precise about their quotes. read more

I had a great experience with this salon! I had a highlights that were done poorly elsewhere and I needed a super fix that would give me the right color without putting my hair through additional stress. Lona talked with me over the phone, listened to my hair challenge and promised me that her team could help me get my hair to not only "fixed," but also fabulous. When I arrived at the salon, Lona knew exactly who I was and reaffirmed that everything was going to be handled. She took my coat and introduced me to Eddie, who made me feel completely at ease in the back of the salon, which has a modern, bright look and feel. Eddie talked through my situation with me and made sure that he communicated what he could do to fix the problems from my highlights-gone-awry. He did two things that were really helpful--repeated back to me what I wanted and asked me if I was comfortable with the approach he had in mind. I'm not a colorist, but I still want to be involved in the decision! The work Eddie did was fabulous, and he went out of his way to bring me out of my shell and get to know me. Wonderful experience at this salon! I passed by and was impressed with how beautiful the salon was so I decided to make an appointment for partial highlights and a haircut. I was set up with Avi who did an AMAZING job. From the moment I sat in his chair he did everything he could to make me feel comfortable and like a valued customer, even though it was my first time. Avi went above and beyond expectations of a hair stylist. I told him I trusted him completely to lighten my base and give me a haircut that would flatter my face and features. He did an outstanding job. I went into the salon with dull, average hair and came out with a hair style that was sexy, edgy, and classy all at the same time. I would recommend this salon to anyone! A single process hair color on roots only + trim= uneven hair color and crooked hair cut and $185. Without blowout just rushed hair dry. The whole process was very rushed , yet I spend 2.5hours of a precious Saturday here. I was not a walking - I made an appointment. I cannot recommend the salon. The stylist who did my hair while she was coloring me she took xxx other costumers extending the time of my color so they now lighter then the rest of the hair. After the wash my hair almost dried on its own. You could imagine how much unnecessary time spent there. Each side of my hair had a different length half hanging and half sitting This is not a good job and definitely not adequate to the price I will not certainly be returning and I will not recommend this salon. Overall, the salon should decide whether are the hair salon or blowout only. Maybe for blowout only not for styling. The salon look very pretty inside and all the stuff was very smiley especially the receptionist. read more

This salon is new but I have known their lead hair artist, Avi, for a while now. He is both an amazing colorist and hairdresser! I am a natural brunette (with quiet a bit of gray) he gave me this beautiful honey/caramel color and made my hair look incredible the first time I went to him. He didn't say that changing my hair color would take several visits (from half-lights and a darker base) as many other coloriste would have done. He just did his magic and voila - I walked out a happy blond! :) He also cut my hair giving a super feminine, soft and at the same time modern look. He even had me stand up and look sideways for the last few snips! Avi takes pride in his work and is truly an artist. The salon itself is spanking new, very clean and bright. AVI from 83rd Bday !! He did the absolute best to achieve the color I wanted for my hair without damaging my curls or striping my hair ! He knows exactly what is right for your hair texture ! Not to mention he is super sweet & kind ! The Kolorbar is clean, friendly & cater to your needs. I went on NEW YEARS EVE ! To do my color & cut PLUS style !!!!! This was my first time at the 86th street Kolorbar. It was also the first time going to a salon after a long quarantine. I was asked to wait outside while they checked my temperature to let me in. Penny took care of my highlights and cut. She was very helpful from the beginning she asked me for the reference on how I wanted my final hair to look and checked with me couple of times during the process with the shade/sections and even the cut length if I was happy with it or not. It was worth the wait and I would definitely go back again. I am glad my final hair ended up looking exactly like the photograph I showed her. She also kept changing the seat plastic every time I had to get up and she had to make seat for a new customer while I waited. And did the same for me once I went back. read more

I was looking for a great colorist with expertise in Balayage. I was in neighborhood by the 83rd and broadway salon and by chance spoke with Avi Hair (as he goes by to distinguish himself from the other Avi there). Couldnt have been happier. He spent 3 hours on my hair with his unique method and then cut and blowed dried my hair. Well worth the time. It was subtle as I wanted. My long chestnut brown hair takes color well and so often went brassy with foil highlights. I recommend Avi. He has a dynamic personality and takes his profession very seriously. He was also giving tips to the assistant who washed my hair which I thought was terrific. As I am in my mid 50s, it becomes harder to color the grays and keep up the maintenance. Lidia is a hair GODDESS and this place is seriously the best!!! I decided I wanted to dye my hair two days ago and walked in & sat down for a consult with Lidia - who gave me her most professional, honest opinion on which color to choose (based on skin tone, current hair color, etc) and what the process, maintenance & cost would be. I called the next day to book an appointment and they were able to take me in just one day. Lidia was an absolute angel & took great care of me for all 5 HOURS I was in the chair. She understood my vision & brought it to life. Lidia is SUCH an angel & I will recommend this place to ANYONE who wants to get their hair colored. This place is amazing! Live nearby and went looking for a new place in the neighborhood, lucked upon Jonahi who is TERRIFIC, super nice and has many years of experience! I now come here regularly. It's super affordable for the Upper West Side, I rarely have to wait, can schedule same day if I need to. I have short hair with it buzzed usually on the sides and long on top, and Jonahi does an amazing job doing the old school barber faded shave with scissors and always gets the longer part of my hair looking super styling. I have short hair but get a fully styled cut, a great scalp massage and wash, and enjoy it in a really nice and clean spa where everyone is friendly and sweet and it costs like $32 or something! GO SEE SARA! I don't typically write reviews, like, ever... but I am SO in love with my hair after visiting Kolorbar that I had to rave a bit. I have been here twice now, once a few months ago to get the original balayage (dark brown to bright red) and again more recently to refresh the red tone as it had started to fade out naturally after over a month. The staff at Kolorbar are very sweet and friendly, and Sara is a genuine and kind person as well as an amazing stylist and colorist. I have been so impressed with the level of professionalism at this salon and have had tons of compliments on my hair since coming here. I scheduled an appointment for balayage color treatment and a cut with Avi, who immediately understood what I was looking for, without needing to explain much at all. He assured me that I would have an absolutely incredible balayage, and I am BEYOND thrilled that I followed my instinct to be seen by him, as the end result surpassed my expectations. I walked into Kolorbar yesterday after work without an appointment as I live around the corner and was in desperate need of a trim. Avi was so accommodating, personable, and professional! He asked me exactly what I wanted and delivered to perfection. Many times when I let hairdressers know I want "an inch or two at most" off, I end up getting 4-6 off instead, but Avi gave me the cut and style exactly as requested which I SO appreciate of. The price was VERY reasonable - much less than I've paid for at other local salons, and included an amazing blowout. I dropped in for a balayage and cut after reading Avi's stellar reviews. We spoke about wanting a very natural autumnal look and I showed him a few photos I liked. My hair is Indian so it doesn't take color easily and it's also very hard to blend colors to look natural. Avi knew exactly what I wanted and the application of it was truly an art. I am so pleased with the finished look, it's exactly what I was after. It's sneakily understated, it transforms under different lighting but it's subtle enough to look natural. Came in very clueless about what I wanted to do with my hair. I knew I wanted to go lighter but my hair was already so damaged from bleaching and dying it back to dark in the past. Avi is magical!! Along with his charming personality, he knew exactly what to do when I told him I wanted to be lighter and turned my dead hair into shiny luscious hair! THANK YOU, AVI!!!! I have been there a few times. Avi did my color better than anyone ever has. He's AMAZING. The color was so natural looking. He really is an artist. He also does a terrific blow dry. Kiki (KeKe?) also did a very nice job. ( only had her for blow dry, not color) And they've been having grand opening special pricing which is great! My wife has very complex, wavy hair. She's been coloring it herself since the pandemic started. I wanted to treat her to a real coloring in the neighborhood and researched the reviews. I had such a great experience at Kolor Bar!! SAM gave me a wonderful make over. He was so patient, very nice and really focused on how i wanted with my hair. The whole time i was there i wasnt feeling bored. This place is amazing because of one person, EVA. I've colored my hair four times so far and only with her. I will only ever color my hair with her - She is absolutely amazing, incredibly accommodating, knows her products and exactly what your hair needs.
