I remember frequenting the original elbow-to-elbow hole-in-the-wall location for years. Watching my very order being seared on a well-seasoned grill was always mesmerizing. They have since expanded. Kojak's is a classic Chicago Greek style joint, showcasing Italian beef, gyros, red hots, burgers, and a whole lot more including lots of Hershey's ice cream! Kojak's because is never hit or miss, it is always consistent. Man is their menu big! I mean, you can't go wrong with anything deep fried such as cod sandwich, shrimp, pizza puffs, even deep fried oreos and cheesecake bites. Then theres the grill. I could be wrong, but I think they use flat top griddles rather than flame now. That or they invested in new grills that get better over time. Either way, no need to head deep into the Chi to get dipped beef with giardiniera, polish, brats, gyro sandwiches & platters, lamb skewers and more because its all in good ol Cary. They do have some original creations. Get their seashore-style steak fries, they are worth it. Burgers are always charred to your preferred doneness, but if you can't decide between that or a gyro, get Greek Freak. Its a 1/3 pound patty on a bun of choice, but then they add gyro meat, feta, tomato, tzatziki sauce, and bacon. Delicious but heads up, it can max you out. When it comes to the classic gyro, I noticed that Kojak's 1 ups other places. One has the option of beef/lamb, chicken, or classic pork gyro sandwiches and platters. Well, I would go back but....... Walked in older individual taking orders and was not so very good at it either. She had to have me explain 7X what I wanted. Either she was not thinking about what she was doing or she wasn't trained properly. She could not understand what I was telling her. 2 beefs very juice, sweet peppers, 1 small fry and the condiments on the beef. This was hysterical watching her and her asking me 7X what I want. Well finally ordered and waited for to go food order. That was pretty kick no complaints. I check the bag and everything is in bag, get home and the beefs look great except dry bread not juice on either beef and 1/2 a bag of small fries in bag. This was very disappointing and cause we went over the order 7X. Again the food overall was good, atmosphere was good as I waited, fast turn around time on the order but just not right. Horrible Service!!! called in a gyros sandwich order for pickup, called back 2 minutes later asking for to change my order to a gyros plate after she checked with someone and they said it was already made. She is asking me do you want to make the change still and I'm like well yes if you can, than she proceeds to tell me she has to charge me separately for the fries and salad WTF!!! Unreal the same sandwich they made already could have been used for my plate. They apparently do not have a cancel button or know how to re-ring an order. I really should have just not picked up my order at all, why make more money for the owner I guess. Once I went in for the pickup the same horrible service same as the person on the phone! We are not from around here. My daughter had a volleyball tournament in Crystal lake and we were hungry after the long day, found this place in a yelp search and it didn't disappoint. Me and my daughter ordered different entrees to share, the chicken kabob dinner and the gyro plate dinner. Both were delicious, so tasty and a great deal. They each came with a Greek salad and a side -fries with the gyro and rice with the kabobs, SO GOOD!! I wish there was a place like this around where we live, I'd definitely frequent it! read more

I have been going to Kojak's for many years. They've always had good food and I have never been disappointed. Even though I've tried many things on their menu most of the time I got their (beef and lamb) gyro which is real good! One of my last times there I did happen to stumble upon their pork belly gyro. It is not served the way they do the traditional gyro which has Tzatziki Sauce, tomatoes and white onions, their pork gyro has red onions, no tomatoes or Tzatziki instead it has a spicy 4 pepper and cilantro sauce and grilled pieces of pineapple (almost like an Al Pastor). I almost ordered with the usual Tzatziki Way, but thought what the heck I'll try it their way. OMG, am I ever glad I did. This is now my favorite gyro and even my favorite thing here. read more

KOJAK'S DELIVERS! Literally, they deliver. To your house. Assuming you are close to them. The food is inexpensive, the menu is broad, and the quality is solid. None of it is going to be too fancy, it's really just a roadside grill, but it's all pretty tasty and all pretty reasonably priced. The locals love it, so the food can take a little longer to prepare than you might expect, especially since they always seem to have 5 people on the grill, but if you are hungry, and looking for a casual, local, easy, and reliable place to eat, Kojak's delivers. read more

Picked up two orders of gyro platter last night. Not one person behind the counter or cooking wearing a mask, gloves, or hair covering. Regardless of political feelings, in the food industry there should be better controls for cleanliness. Also, one of the young men on the line was vaping while working. The gyro meat tastes old and not as flavorful as other establishments. I don't usually go here as each time I feel it's a true let down on good tasting griddle food. I have been here a few times now, and have always left happy and full. The places is very well kept, staff is friendly, and the food is great. I was not crazy about the burger I tried, but their onion rings were delicious, and my boyfriend loves their chicken gyros. The prices are pretty reasonable as well and they have a pretty wide selection for their menu. This is a great spot for anyone looking for great food at a good deal. 'Not so great' customer service during our last visit. Kojak's is our "go to" lunch spot of late as the service, food quality and preparation speed has been consistently good. However, on our last visit this was not our experience. We used the app to order (as always) and when we arrived the older woman at the pickup counter asked for our name (which she always gets wrong despite our coming in about 3X/week), and never did get correct. She then asked if we ordered via phone or online. Well, we used the app. "The app" was not a satisfactory answer for her, so she just repeated "phone or online" several times, each time emphasizing more and more like we couldn't hear her. And because she couldn't spell our name correctly she was never going to find our order anyway. Oh, and I should mention that our lunch order was sitting on the counter behind her, which we tried to point out, but she kept just repeating "phone or online". I see that she is pointed out in a few of the other reviews here on Yelp as being a bear to deal with--maybe it's time to either train her in some customer service skills, move her to a position where she will not be interacting with the public, or show her the door. When they for got my food (*entire meal for one person, not just fries or sauce) and we asked if they could bring it We were told.... "ummm so we close in five minutes... soooo, yeah...." ... "ugh, I mean you come get it or do you want a refund" I asked for a refund... thinking they'll refund my credit card, nope wrong again!! They gave me "store credit" WHY WOULD I COME BACK? This was my first visit, a carry-out order, and I implore you... don't get the Ultimate Nachos; they were the worst thing I have eaten from a restaurant in a looooong time - couldn't even bring myself to finish them. WOOF! The other item ordered was a Gyro. It had a TON of flavorful meat, but it was pretty dry, and the amount of tzatziki sauce was quite laughable for the meat provided. I've been frequenting Kojacks for many years. This is the first time I actually went into the restaurant to pick up food... they did a really nice job with the new place. Lots of seating and the decor looks good. I could not get over the bad attitudes of some of the employees, they act like they are not happy to be there. The food is always good though especially the fries. Just the right crispness. They also have ice cream now which is a plus. As a longtime customer of Kojak's in Cary I am extremely disappointed how the service and quality have slipped in the past year. Because I eat out and order in a lot, Kojak's was my go-to place several times a week. My past four encounters with pick-up orders have led me to eliminate Kojak's from dining choices. First there were burgers for both my wife and me that were overcooked, dry, and tasteless. The next episode involved receipt of the wrong item; ordered a Southwest Chicken salad, got a Caesar salad. When I called the store the person I spoke to acted like he had no clue what I was talking about. I had to return the salad to the store to get the correct item - not even an offer to deliver it. A message left on their website went unanswered. Next, I arrived to pick up my order and was told it would be right up. I waited nearly 30 minutes so they offered to refund the cost of my dinner. It turned out that my wife's barbecued Chicken was overcooked with little sauce. I overlooked these things and gave them another chance. The last straw was the Parmesan Chicken sandwich I received on my LAST order, picture attached. Note, it has NO sauce. I again contacted them online, and again, no response. There was literally only a few people in the place... and the cooks completely forgot my food... by the time we said something about it my wife was almost done easting. I could understand if they were busy... but the place was dead. The cooks were all crowded around chatting with each other... oddly enough, none of them were chatting about my dinner they forgot to make. On top of that.. the food is I just OK at best! Undercooked , under seasoned fries and tasteless beef. My wife's Gyro also lacked more than a splash of sauce.. Probably won't be back. Shame too, because we live across the street. read more

We called our rather large order in like we always do and like they always do they don't start to make it until we get there so 25 minutes later we're leaving with our food. This is our go-to place when visiting our kids and it does not disappoint! The chicken kabobs are superb, always juicy, flavorful and cooked to the PERFECT char with NO burn (that's talent)!! This dinner is served with rice, Pita and a salad. So, so good. I'm not a gyros eater but the guys love it and they give you plenty. This is served with fries, pita, tzatziki and the same yummy salad. The burgers are good and the toppings are plentiful. Fries are always crispy yet not over cooked. The only thing I did not enjoy there was the Italian beef. I found it to be bland but there are so many amazing options that it never disappoints. They are moving to a new and larger location where I think they might have outdoor seating!!!! read more

New location looks great, a big step up from the old place. Clean and comfortable with lots of seating. Nice solid, rustic wood tables and simple décor makes for a nice atmosphere. Looks like they have also added an Ice cream and Sunday bar (Serving Hershey's ice cream) if you want a desert as well. Staff: Very friendly and helpful, so far I have not had any issues. Food: So far everything I have tried has been very good to excellent. Hotdogs are good (but not as good as Portillo's but you really can't hold that against them), Cheeseburgers are great, best fast food burger in the immediate area in my opinion, Gyros are great, and my personal favorite is the Chicken Kabob Dinner with Rice pilaf which I highly recommend. The only gripe I have is that they put the Greek salad in the same container as the Rice and chicken so if you get it to go the salad does not stay as cold as I prefer. If they had the salads in a separate container I would have no issues. But even still it's a great and cheap dinner to bring home after work. Time: keep in mind that since everything is usually made fresh there is a longer wait coming here than going to a drive-thru fast food type place but the better quality is worth the wait in my opinion. read more

I'm driving along and all I keep seeing are Jimmy John's franchises. I'm in the mood for a chicken breast on a pita. I am getting a little nervous as I hit the Cary border and I haven't noticed a likely fit for my culinary craving. I should have opened my Yelp app, but I had resigned myself to eating later if something didn't jump out at me on my immediate route. Before you knew it, there was Kojaks. We pulled in the parking lot and I couldn't tell from looking at the building if they were open. But there were cars in the lot, so we walked in. Everyone working there was very nice. The gal who took our order even made suggestions when we asked her opinion. We went with chicken on a pita and gyros. Both came with a side of fries and a medium drink. We also added on the kickin' chicken soup since the picture looked so good once I started to breeze through the Yelp photos. There was a fair amount of seating, so we had our choice of spots to dine-in. The food didn't take very long and everything was served piping hot just the way I like it. Especially the soup! The pita bread was really fresh! The chicken was chopped into small pieces and it was cooked nicely, but it had absolutely no seasoning. I tried the gyros and they were very good. The strips of meat were nicely cut and not hacked up. Consistent seems to be an appropriate word to describe the piece of meat. The tzatziki sauce was one of my favorites ever! I had one bite of it and it was really, really good. This was seasoned and had some garlic notes. It was a great sauce! The soup...I love soup. This soup had highs and lows. Highs were the giant - I mean seriously too big for the spoon - pieces of chicken breast. There was more than one chicken chunk like this and I was pleased. The noodles were not overcooked, so that also ranked high. But, there were large red bell pepper chunks that were unexpected and not appealing to me as well as the use of red pepper flakes to add a sense of heat to the broth. It took away from what I thought could be a very tasty soup. A friend was working nearby and he wanted hot dogs, so we grabbed the two dog deal which came with fries and a medium drink. The total was $7.48 for the hot dog special. This does not seem reasonably priced for what it was. The fries here are nothing special. Frozen, not fresh cut. The hot dogs and buns were average. Overall, it was fine, but I can't say that I would seek them out again. read more

If you want a waist friendly place then please move on. Now if what you really want is hot, fresh, yummy OMG I can't do this every week food then this is the place for you. My family is in the process of moving to the area and we're eating out a bit more than normal. Right now fast food fits the bill. This place, with REALLY tasty fast food fits the bill perhaps too well. The Gyros are fresh and juicy. The fried mushrooms are standard, but the Italian beef - the heavens parted and the angels sang - well you get the idea. Add to that friendly cheerful staff who actually appear to enjoy going to work and you have a very positive experience. I'm kinda sorry this place is actually so close. Love this place. I eat here about once a week. I usually get the Gyro but I have tried pretty much everything the menu has to offer. The staff is super friendly and always makes you feel welcome. The food quality and speed is amazing! I would always recommend this place. Got a lot of different items on the menu. My favorites are Gyro, Chicken Gyro, Italian Sausage, and Dollar Dog Mondays! I, however, am not a fan of their Italian Beef, I do not recommend it. It doesn't have enough flavor. (Go to Portillo's in Crystal Lake for a good beef). Always a great time and great food!
