We were reminiscing about a date we went on early in our relationship where we had Thai Rolled Ice Cream. Out of curiously I searched to see if there was one in the area and found Coco Rolls. Since we were on the town, we decided to stop in and check it out before they closed. First I will say that they are located in a strip mall, but in a part of it that makes it hard to find. We drove past it a couple of times before we realized they were in a nook on a courtyard area. You do have to look to find it as you will not see it from the road easily. Upon entering we found a fun little shop. There's not a lot of seating, but I feel like most of their customers are an order and go crowd. When we entered there were no other customers, we ordered our rolled ice cream and sat at the table they had to eat. While eating others came in, but ordered and left. I had the Oreo and Nutella rolls my lady had the caramel. Both were delicious. Overall, we were pleased. I wish they were closer to where we lived, but it will be a nice occasional visit. I can't comment on the Boba as we didn't order any, but maybe next time. read more

Hot Taro tea with boba was ordered- not hot at all, it was just warmed to room temperature. Taro powder mix is not mixed well and i could feel texture all the time I was trying to drink. Flavor was decent. But I think they need to use mixer to have more uniform mix than just stirring it with spoon. I was excited to try Coco Rolls after discovering them on Yelp, but my experience was unfortunately disappointing. I went in on a chilly Sunday evening and was surprised to see how busy they were. We placed our order at the kiosk, and my egg waffle ice cream was $11 which seemed pricey for Crystal Lake, but nonetheless I was still excited! Excitement ended there. I waited 32 (exactly) minutes for my order to come out. They had two people working in total, and they seemed to only be focused on boba and rolled ice cream, as several customers came in after me and got their order before me. I can't say the egg waffle ice cream was bad, but it wasn't amazing and for a 32 minute wait (which they could have at least given customers a heads up for), was not okay. By the time I got my order I was practically the last customer in the store, minus another family also waiting 30+ minutes for egg waffle ice cream. Finally decided to try this place and unfortunately the boba ruined it for me. I ordered my go to, Brown Sugar Milk Tea. Overall the actual drink was tasty but boba plays a large part of the drink and the boba on this day was not good. Because it was undercooked, it was hard instead of chewy. So I was spitting out boba balls as I drank. I clearly couldn't enjoy the drink and after paying around $6 for a drink, I felt like I wasted my money. The place itself was simple and clean. They do offer a self service order kiosk. The customer service is eh. Not friendly but not rude. Just not engaging. read more

Quick Take : It's a little on the pricey side for a suburban location, but because it is a pretty unique offering, it's worth a visit. We did a Boba Tea and the Thai Ice Cream. I don't remember which flavor of the tea we chose. The portion was small for the price, and the flavor, though good, wasn't groundbreaking or crave-worthy... otherwise, we probably would've remembered. For the size and price of the ice cream, you could get away with sharing... especially if you upgrade to the egg waffle, which is really expensive at $8.50 before toppings! I had the taro ice cream in a cup, which had a wonderful flavor and went well with the Oreos and coconut I added. The kids got their own flavors of ice cream and couldn't finish it all due to the size, so I helped them. :) The customer service is lacking, as I wish they could have made recommendations or suggestions after my wife asked some questions. If they would show more passion and energy for their offerings, I would be more likely to want to come back. Since their menu is unique and has so many options, we will probably, eventually show up again to try the other offerings. I've always gone to liquid fusion for boba but I decided to try this place out, and I'm so glad I did! (It is a bit pricey though) The man who took our order was very kind and welcomed us with a smile. I asked if their milk teas contain dairy- he told us that they are made with non-dairy creamer so huge plus for lactose intolerance ! We ordered the taro coconut special. I was in dire need of a Boba Tea fix and decided it was about time to check out Coco Rolls, which opened up earlier this year in a shopping center here in Crystal Lake. What a cute, vibrant place! One of my friends told me about this place and we decided to check it out. This place quickly adapted to social distancing--especially considering that the quarantine regulations kicked in about a week after they opened. I ordered an egg waffle with a scoop of chocolate ice cream and bananas. While the waffle took a little while to make, it was toasty and delicious! All the ingredients paired beautifully together. The order took about 10 minutes to get, we got to watch them roll the ice cream in the shop, and everything was DELICIOUS! It wasn't very busy (around noon on a Sunday). I'm really torn. My husband and I come here all the time. The peach green tea is our favorite drink. Today, we grabbed our normal drinks and it didn't taste like peach green tea.
