It's that time of year! Great quality custard!…read more Julie Ann's has been our favorite custards since moving here since 2022. It's local and a great place to hang out. Anytime we recommend a place for dessert this is the first in mind. Service is quick and honestly the greatest concept you can wait in your car and they come to you?! Haha seems like most places are doing this but because the influx of folks and people loving this place as well I think it's a great in and out concept.

The location is so small and cramped, they need a bigger storefront. I got a brownie sundae and added bananas and it was nothing crazy. There was barely any bananas for the price they charged me extra. The hot fudge was not even "hot" and the brownie was nothing special. They offered a pint of coconut but when I asked if they had that flavor they said no. I wouldn't recommend unless it's the only place you're willing to drive to.

The donuts are exceptional...always fresh, soft, and some of the best you'll find anywhere. It's one of those places that keeps our family coming back. What makes it even more special is Mike. Every time we walk in, he treats our family like we're regulars. He's genuinely kind, welcoming, and always takes the time to make our kids smile. In fact, every time we leave, my kids say, "He's just so nice." Great donuts will bring you in. Great people keep you coming back. Thank you, Mike, for making Country Donuts a place our family loves.

Looks like they make donuts 24 hours a day so I'll need to try and get something fresher next time?

And dear reader, I should have kept driving down 14 and pulled into Julie Anne's. Look, I love nostalgia and old, quaint spaces. I remember going here as a kid and I'm sure I shared a frosty concoction and cheese fries with a girl I stopped caring about a long time ago. But this soft serve came up weaker than my memories. And I got a dirt cup blitz, peak nostalgia choice, but it just tasted cold more than anything else. I kept going back for more, expecting something different, but alas. Go to Julie Anne's. Go to the freezer where they sell cakes. Grab and oops out of the bottom and have a grand dessert at half the price. Oddity of the visit: woman walking down the line of people queued up, asking if we knew of any South African people living in Crystal Lake. Huh.
