Got to self check out that only takes credit cards. It said declined on card which made no sense. I tried again and it kept showing waiting on approval ....for about 5 min till I pulled card out. Not one employee in sight. After over 10 min. I Walked around to the one single register with a cashier to ask if it will finally clear out on my credit card and she said it would. I asked if I she could just check out my 1 item with cash. she said I would but I have to go around and wait in back of line. I expressed that I had already been waiting and some lady who was checking out the whole time at self check in another area, loudly told me "if you want to be checked out you have to go get in back of line". I decided to try self again on different register and card. Same thing. Same lady kept loudly & rudely telling me how to do it & that I didn't do it like she told me. I told her that I don't work there so why is she being so rude. She said I was the rude one & she is off the clock & that I should be glad I was getting free help. I wasn't aware that I was suppose to pay for service to check myself out. She said everything so loud & with such a condescending tone that I was very embarrassed. On the clock or off, employees should be respectable to the customers. I have had to self check at most stores. There's usually an assistant in the area to assist in any problems as needed. In fact I used the same card at Hobby Lobby self check 30 min later, no problem. My purchase of a $9.99 baby rattler experience at this store was not good. Other items I had planned to purchase off my Great Grandbabys "Baby List" such as the monitor camera, stroller, etc. will be purchased elsewhere. As far as the off duty condescending woman, it looked like she needs some training in customer service.

The store is not in East St. Louis, but in Belleville, and is one of the places the high income Belleville golf course set shops. What I like best about the place is that I can be sure that no one else in my work place or among my friends will have the same outfit I just bought. They don't carry racks of the same item in multiple sizes, but just one in each size. They don't have extra large sizes in the women's dept, but they have extra small... They have sales sometimes, which is good, because they're quite pricey. Costume jewelry and accessories selection is top notch, and the salespeople are very helpful in helping you find a complete ensemble. The menswear seems to be for the golf set, but the women's is quite varied in style from casual to very unique and dressy. I especially love their skirts. This is the store to go to if you want to see what colors will be in style for the season. So why didn't I give this unique store more stars? They have a 7-day return policy, which is out of step with modern working families. Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful, but be warned, if you go to the sale racks upon entering, they'll give you a bit of the cold shoulder. And the dressing rooms are tacky, not really matching the prices you'll pay or the quality of the clothing.

First thing's first…read more I'm not a fashionable man. Whatever success I have with fashion can be attributed to my lady helping me out. On the occasion I do shop for myself, I tend to enjoy t-shirts and hoodies. It just happens that the good people of SwedLife have plenty of those items. SwedLife hasn't been around very long but they make up for it with plenty of personality and style. The first thing you'll usually notice are the owners Lucas, Seth and Mark (the resident Style and Sneaker expert). They are very quick to offer assistance if you need anything or have questions. If you are not a person into sneakers, fitted hats or snapbacks then it can be a bit much. However, the gentlemen can put your fears at ease pretty quickly as they are very relaxed and patient. Also they have all sorts of choices size wise. The shop isn't a very large place but they make great use of the space and the walls are brimming with artwork done by local artists. As a fan of hip hop, I love that they are constantly playing the newest and greatest music from national and local artists. If you don't know about the local scene or the even the next show, they can fill you in pretty quickly. Also they Sneakerheads as well (aka Sneaker Collectors). They are all experts but Mark is your guy if you need to know about the latest and greatest. In regards to price, it's not a cheap place to shop sadly. You can easily drop some major cash here if you aren't careful. The brands they carry aren't cheap but they are usually the only ones that carry those brands. The alternative is that you can order online so it isn't a bad deal. All and all, SwedLife is in a prime location and has a lot going in regards to it's personality and fashion. Some people might not be into the music or even the style, but if you do graviate towards that style SwedLife is one of your best options in St. Louis.
