I visited this restaurant for a take-out order. I was greeted at the top of the steps by 2 friendly staff members who made sure I was well informed on what they offered, and were friendly. The atmosphere is great (although I only got to see the top bar section, it is a place i would for sure visit). I ordered the Mango Lassi, Lamb Paneer, and Garlic naan. All of which took about 10-15 minutes to make for me. The food overall was delicious! I enjoyed it all, especially the mango lassi (not overly sweet like others have made it). Nice layout! I didn't dine in on this visit but looking forward to in coming visits. There is a flight of steps to climb before entering the to-go area so persons need ADA accommodations may find it difficult to access. The parking was also not ideal for customers in the tiny lot space allocated in front of the restaurant. The bar area was very clean and felt modern offering a decent street view down Eads. I did not view the downstairs main dining area unfortunately. The service was swift and efficient. The bartender/server was able to receive my order and deliver it to the chef for preparation. As suggested the food was ready in ten minutes. I ordered the butter chicken and lamb tikka marsala with a side of roti and a side of garlic naan. On the receipt the butter chicken was labeled as tikka but it was butter chicken. The roti was not bad though I preferred the naan more. The garlic naan lived up to its name and was packed with minced garlic mainly toward the center or the bread. It was quite tasty and paired really well with the lamb tikka marsala. The butter chicken was good offering tender marinated chicken breast covered in the smooth and creamy sauce. The lamb was similarly prepared offering a deeper robust flavor and higher spice level. Granted I wasn't asked spice level for either dish. Considering both dishes were ticketed as a tikka I inferred the difference between butter chicken and chicken tikka could be the added spice. Either way both dishes were very good and well portioned giving the clear advantage to the lamb. Oh my gosh, this was unbelievably good. They actually listen when you say you want your food spicy! We got Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala with garlic naan and a mango lassi. Of the options we got I liked the chicken korma better than the chicken tikka masala. Delicious, consistent, and convenient I come here once a week and order the same dish. Chicken chettinad, extra spicy. They use real curry leaves and actually char the dried chili pepper. The flavor is on point and it's delicious I have tried a few other dishes and they are good but this one would be my personal recommendation for anybody stopping by. A true hidden gem! Kohindor Dhaba serves some of the best Indian cuisine I've had in a long time. The food is incredibly flavorful, freshly made, and offered at a very reasonable price. From the first bite, you can tell they care about authenticity and taste. For appetizer we had the #8 Mixed Veggies samosa it was a bit spicy and dry for me. I give it a 3.8/5. For dinner we ordered the #47 Lamb Vandalu. It was spicy but delicious sauce with right amount of spices and give it a 4/5. We also ordered the #50 Chicken tikka masala with one order of #22 Garlic Naan bread and both were OUTSTANDING and give it 5/5!! Definitely coming back for these two. I had been hearing about this place in Crystal City, over by the Enterprise car rentals/.Some said they had been going there for years. It has been there for 15 years. Last night we showed up. It's a two story building and the pickup driver told us upstairs is for pickup and the downstairs is for dine- in. We were warmly greeted and ushered into the dining room. So clean, lots of tables and chairs and not crowded. I ordered lamb tiki masala and the lamb was so tender. I've never had lamb so tender and the rice was perfect.... The nan was warm and tasty and never got hard like some bread does when it cools. I ordered a small Kingfisher and several water refills. Food so good I had to come twice! I'm visiting from California and I had to stop by at my parent's go-to Indian food spot whenever they visit Virginia. Megha was our server both times and she was so lovely. She took excellent care of us and really enjoys her job! I highly recommend checking out the restaurant especially if you're staying at the hotels across the street from it. We love that they're family owned and take great care of their customers! If you are looking for classic, unstuffy Indian food that is phenomenal, this the place. It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall. The dining room is in a basement, the tablecloths are plastic, the floor is tiled. It's not a fancy place. But the food is worth it. At my roommate's recommendation, we came here from DC for dinner recently and wow was it great! The location is so nondescript that it would have been so easy to drive right by it if my roommate hadn't already been there before. The seating area is downstairs (sort of underground) and relatively spacious. The decor is nothing fancy, but my roommate did say they had recently upgraded their chairs, so maybe they are slowly investing in the space? This Indian restaurant is easy to review. However, the object of my comments (that is, the owners) may not find it easy to read. THE FOOD The food at Kohinoor Dhaba was good. Probably as good as most Indian food I have had before. The samosas were nicely crispy on the outside and the filling was luxurious and exotic. Plus we received them within minutes of ordering them. Our main dishes - chicken tikka masala and palak paneer - were good. Not great. But solid and good. Whoever cooked the rice did an outstanding job. The naan also was good. This restaurant was recommended to us by some folks directly from India. They said it was the most authentic Indian food they had eaten in the DC area. That might be true, I don't know because I'm not Indian. But now, after our dinner there, I notice that they didn't use words like "best" or "great." Maybe it's just coincidence, who knows. THE DINING ROOM This might be the worst dining room I have ever eaten in anywhere. It was in the basement and lit like a surgical suite in a hospital. The floor was dirty. The fabric roses were dusty and caked with previous diners' food. There were numerous water stains on the ceiling and walls. And our table was so close to the bathroom that we could smell the toilet bowl cookie throughout our entire meal. Not appetizing at all. In fact, we would have left the place if we didn't have to climb the stairs and walk right past the staff to get out of there. When I say the dining room was terrible, I don't think that adequately describes it but it's as close as I can get. If this restaurant does not CHANGE ITS DINING ROOM, it will never last long. The butter chicken with the garlic naan and the samosas, as an appetizer, all of it was really good. Butter chicken, the sauce itself, tastes a lot like and reminds me of tomato basil soup. So smooth, rich, and savory. The chicken was tender and there were lots of big chunks. Seasoned perfectly!
