two trays of sushi on a table

We ordered the Dancing eel roll that has Shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, topped with eel. But we got eel on 3 out of 8 pcs, there is NO shrimp, just only the tempura powder inside 3 out of 8 pcs, the rest are cucumbers, avocado!? The Fantastic roll which has spicy white tuna, asparagus, crunchy, topped with salmon, eel. But we got only 3 pcs with white tuna and eel, where are the rest of them?! I will never comeback again because of my 2 disappointing experiences.

Best sushi place that we went by far. I really love their beef teriyaki, japanese fried chicken and golden (or red?) dragon sushi. Wish they have dimsun in their menu like what their tarp is showing from the outside of their restaurant. Will definitely go back here. 100%

i visited this place with my grandmother and cousins. the food was amazing and the service was great. some of the employees didn't understand english but it was not a problem. the waitress only charged us for a party of 3 even though we were 4 because my cousin didnt eat much. they were very kind. i rate it 4 stars because my water cup was dirty and had rice in it and when i asked for a new one that cup was dirty as well. it's not a big deal but i didnt like it. i would recommend this place. the prices were pretty cheap as well. about $25 for adult dinner all you can eat.

Terrible food, even worse service and hospitality. Have never been served by staff so rudely. Definitely don't recommend.

If anyone's reading this and hasn't tried cafe orient before, what are you doing? I'll try to be as…read moreunbiased as possible since this has been my og go-to place with my family + the previous owner has basically watched me grow up at this point. But truly, the food here tastes as authentic as it can get in Ottawa and very comparable to the AMAZING food you'd find in Toronto/markham. It brings memories back from HK cha cha tengs (ifykyk). We usually come for lunch, but the photo attached is from their set dinner menu. If you come for lunch our go-to is usually the baked porkchop rice (classic), wonton soup, satay beef noodles, hot and sour soup, pad thai, and ofc their milk tea. The previous owner still works here from time-to-time helping out and the new owner that took over is also just as great. Just make sure to plan your trip here accordingly, as during rush hours, you may need to wait for an open table - but so worth it.

Round 2. Another quick meal at Cafe Orient. This time for breakfast!…read more Preserved duck egg and shredded pork congee - Congee was flavoured well and had a watery thick consistency. Lots of duck eggs in the congee, but lacked shredded pork. Decent size, can get to share for 2 people. Would get the congee again, but with other toppings. Steamed sticky rice in lotus leaf - Undercooked, rice was not soft. filling was bland and lacked texture. Would not recommend. Seems like this place is a hit or miss with their items.

Stopped in for dinner with friends and after looking at the menu for while, we went with several…read moreitems: D4 - Black pepper beef shiu mai D7 - Shang Hai Pork Dumplings (xia long bao) D18 - Steamed Rice Fours Rolls with Shrimp D22 - Stuffed Eggplant with Shrimp Paste D23 - Stuffed Bean Curd with Shrimp Paste 61 - Chinese Broccoli with Garlic 87 - Beef and Bean Sprouts Fried Rice Noodles (no sauce) Inside, it's small, six tables, their largest table can hold around 6-8 people, but all other tables are for 2 to 4 people. If you want to have dinner with large crowd, you might want to reconsider. The staff members were super friendly and welcoming. I did notice the place was more of "take out" place, as lot of folks came in to pick up their food. We wrote down our food items on the piece of paper that was provided and gave it to the staff. The food came out slow, even with three tables being occupied, so give yourself enough time to eat, aka - pace yourself :) While the dim sum was decent, nothing too special to write home about. The one complaint we had was the D7 Shang hai pork dumpling, when we picked it up, it felt apart, which shouldn't happen if made to order. One I can understand, but when this happens to all six pieces, then it's a different story.... definitely was premade, frozen and reheated unfortunately. I get that's necessary when they are busy, but I wish they would make set amount and if you run out, then you are out for the day, but oh well. The beef and bean sprouts with rice noodles were decent, unfortunately the rice noodles also fell apart as you picked it up. As I stated, the food came out in stages, so pace yourself.... the staff were friendly and attentive, if we asked for more tea, it was refilled. Definitely worth trying, as this place came up as one of the must try in Ottawa during my research. Street parking, parked in front of the store, parking is free on the weekend, 2 hour max between 7am to 7pm, just keep that in mind.

Ordered via UberEats for a Sunday brunch. Their dishes were average, slightly pricey in my opinion.read more

The renovations look nice in here. We walked in and were promptly greeted and seated. The space is really open and acoustics were nice but it also wasn't packed. I believe they specialize in seafood but I don't think I saw a ton of tanks with fresh seafood like you would see in Toronto but maybe I missed it. They brought us tea and menus. They have a set menu but also a bunch of items that were written on paper as I suspect they're trialling different dishes. They also have a dim sum menu that seems like it's served all day...for those weirdos that have off hour dim sum ;) The prices here are much higher than a lot of places in Ottawa as an FYI. We ended up ordering a vegetable dish, a noodle dish and a couple of dim sum items. Yes we're those weirdos but we were curious the quality! The dishes were all alright. The vegetable stir fry was nice. Would order again. The beef noodle stir fry was alright. The cook was decent, the noodles unfortunately seemed like they were rehydrated vs something fresh. If they can source that, would think it goes to another level. The siu mai sum was OK and had shrimp and pork. I don't think I'd get it again. We also got a clay pot rice. It was a really basic one and I think the cook could have been a little better. There wasn't enough crispy rice on the bottom. I'll definitely be coming back to check out the set menus and try some other dishes as this is a quick walk for me.
