84 AUD = 56.77 USD which is actually not that bad considering the quality and the different kind of food they have. They have a variety of appetizers, greens, seafood, and meat(wagyu). Coming here mainly for their wagyu, I was honestly pretty satisfied by what the quality of the meat. The appetizers and the greens are a hit or miss kind of situation. The sashimi salad was over wasabi but tasted pretty good. The seaweed salad was just not good. Instead of the over wasabi dressing, they have this nasty dressing that I forced myself to finish. Although the meat were good, the problem is that it starts to taste the same after awhile. The other issue doesn't come from the meat but comes from the waitress or at least my waitress. She brings the meat but she doesn't explain which part it is...so it was hard to differentiate the variety which is actually a big problem. I had one plate of the salmon sashimi and it was actually pretty good. What really shocked was their seafood. I got their Tiger Prawn and it was sooooo good. It was super big in size and this is an AYCE. I think the other problem also came from the waitress lol. I forgot what it was exactly but she possibly brought me something wrong and then it was the 3 minutes left and when I tried to flag her down, the time(One hour and 30 mins for ordering, but total of 2 hours of sitting down) ran out and yea... Regardless, I thought Kobe Wagyu was actually pretty worth it once in awhile because the quality of their stuff is good. As I did mentioned, the meat does start to all taste the same after awhile.

Kobe Wagyu is up on the first floor across from World Square, at the edge of Chinatown. It was great food and a great dining experience. And it was a bit of a historical meal for us too, as it was the last place we went to before restaurants got shut down (except for takeaway service) because of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, if humanity is doomed, it was great to have this as our last restaurant meal. Head up the stairs and be impressed by the fridge full of wagyu beef. In fact, I was at a Japanese restaurant in the same location maybe ... ten years ago? Anyways, here at Kobe Wagyu BBQ, It's a fun and easy concept. For $84, you get a beautiful deluxe plate of sashimi, and a wooden staircase of wagyu beef. You can also get free beer (one bottle each), free oysters (one each) and then order small side dishes to your heart's content. The focus here, of course, is the meat, and I wasn't careful enough to try to write down the different cuts and names of the beef (though I should have checked the menu, which has photos of them) but there was an amazing variation, in how much fat there was, how thin or thick the slice was, and then the different texture and mouth-feel with each bite. It was really amazing, and you can tell this is high-quality, expensive meat. And with a biteful of each type, you can really savour and appreciate them. I think there was only one out of the eight or nine varieties that I thought was average. Mostly, we looked at each other after tasting a piece and said: OHMYGOD. The setting is fun and comfortable. Perhaps a little too bright. But the booths are comfortable and they were spaced so that everyone was sitting a comfortable distance apart (all the staff were wearing masks, there was hand sanitizer at the entrance when you came in. It was clear they were doing everything they could to make it a safe and comfortable experience). And the ordering pad is fun. Easy to understand and the orders come in minutes! We ordered quite a few little plates: a cold tofu, takoyaki (octopus balls), crab claws (which tastes surprisingly of crab rather than the artificial seafood filler I expected), a seaweed salad, asparagus, and burdock fries (chewy and interesting). We even had a frozen matcha tiramisu for dessert, which was fine. Nothing special but I like the concept. All in all a wonderful evening and I would definitely go back. And I hope in these tough times for restaurant that Kobe Wagyu, and all of the other wonderful restaurants in Sydney, will also be back to normal business as soon as we can all be safe.

Kobe Wagyu is in the heart of the Sydney CBD, and can be found upstairs, entering from Goulburn street.  Once upstairs you'll find plenty of tables complete with a grill in the centre. Now I might not be the best cook at home, but this is one of those places where I can sure shine as chef. Taking on thus role for the table, I ordered and cooked! We had a big group so the the buffet menu, at $79 per person was great for us, since we could get a range of items to share amongst the group. The all you can eat experience includes vegetables, salads, small bites, rice, noodles, soup, seafood and meats. Basically the concept is to select your choices from the touch screen and send through to the kitchen. Sashimi and sushi is prepared for you, as is the entree sized bites like the chicken wings and Takoyaki. Then comes the highlight of the night - the meats and seafood. Order your selections again from the touch screen. They have various cuts like skirt, brisket, short rib, chicken thigh or wing, pork belly, neck, sausage or loin amongst others. This comes to you slightly seasoned and then it's cooking time. It only needs a brief amount of time in the grill and then take it off, dip it in a little sauce and you're ready to eat. It high quality Wagyu and makes the buffet cost good value for money. The seafood options are also grand - whether it be m octopus, scallop, calamari to cook on the grill or even a few fresh prawns. Grab yourself a few sides like veggies, kim chi, edamame or tofu and you've got yourself a pretty good meal with a lot of variety. We think it's well suited to a group dining experience and a whole lot of fun. Our waiters were efficient and hardworking.

For a wagyu beef all you can eat and all you can eat sashimi and snacks, this is pretty good outside of Japan. Of course the wagyu in Japan is way better. I liked ordering from the computer and sending it straight to the kitchen. I think the servers should tell us what kind of meat they were bringing out. That would be a level higher of service. There's also dessert at the end. The sesame was better than the red bean.

If you've read my other reviews, you know I can consider myself a bit of a Chicken Katsu snob since that's my go-to-dish at Japanese restaurants. To top things off with this belly-loving dish, you get rice, a side salad w/dressing and miso soup... Oh and almost forgot THE BEST part - FREE ICE CREAM!!!!! With relatively few staff that have to multitask between assembling, serving and taking orders, the queue rapidly lengthened behind us as dinner hours began. We ordered the karage bowl, plain wagyu bowl, the teriyaki chicken salad, assortment of side dishes and the matcha milk. The fried chicken is lightly battered and has a strong soy sauce flavor, topped with a layer of mayo. While the slightly undersized pieces have just came out from the fryer, the exterior barely have any crisp and is quite oily, while the interior is a little overcooked. The beef, different from its thick and succulent appearance on the menu, is overcooked and stringy. However, the flavoring on point and the topped spring onions are cut perfectly. Nothing special about the salad, and the same for the self-served takoyaki-on-a-skewer and cold tofu with sliced spring onions. The self-serve matcha milk was a pleasant surprise, with the right level of sugar and bitterness, only lacking some creaminess.

But you're not coming here for waterside ambience, you're coming for the food...and it delivers. First the logistics: You get 70 minutes to order, and 90 minutes to eat. I was with a party of 6 hungry people (4 adults and 2 kids), and it seemed a bit rushed. I wish we had the full 90 minutes. But we were really hungry, so we were furiously ordering. Ordering is done off of an iPad on the table. It was a slick set up, ordering was easy, and servers were fast. We all ordered the full buffet ($65 for adults); highly recommended as this includes the Kobe beef. Kobe beef was probably the most flavorful I've had anywhere. I ordered the ribs, cubes, and steak...this was like meat candy. Sushi was also of surprisingly good quality Salmon melted in your mouth and the scallops were fresh and flavorful. We ordered about 6 rounds through the 70 minute ordering period, right up until the final minute. I could have used an additional 20 min so I didn't feel rushed, but I definitely had all you could eat. Will definitely return when I go to Sydney!
