Girls excel at this sport and actually out-perform boys until they are at least 10 years old. Start them at 6, and maybe add some muy thai or boxing etc at 9 or 10 too. Do not try to coach. Do not offer advice. Support without opinions, and maybe try it out yourself. Sit back and watch the magic happen... it will. Don't care if it actually helps in a self defense situation? Want your kid to be a pretend martial arts master? Become a "black belt" after 5 or 6 years? If that is the goal, you can get your kid into karate or tae kwon do or kung fu or whatever... Just make sure they don't try to use it in a fight with someone who can actually fight. And do not expect them to get the same lessons in humility and respect that they will learn first hand in bjj. Our kids really enjoyed their time there, and we were always impressed by the positive and welcoming environment. Although our family has since moved on from jiu-jitsu for the time being (due to lack of flexibilty in our schedule), we're very grateful for the experience and the positive impact Mr. Juda and Mr. Reyes had on our children. We would absolutely recommend this academy to families looking for a supportive, well-run place for their kids to learn ji jitsu and grow as individuals!

I decided to enroll her at Black Belt to help her with the transition of me returning to work and her beginning day care. I'll admit, at first it was tough. She cried during every class at the dojo, but Mr. Reyes was still willing to work with her. I saw progress with each visit. In about two months, she went from her first class where she was running off the mat back into my arms to her most recent class where she was laughing and enjoying herself with the instructors and other kids. I've never been able to drop her off anywhere without tears. In this past week, she stayed with her grandmother and spent time in the church nursery. Both instances, she had a smile on her face when I walked out of the door. I know this is due to her time at Black Belt. Although her progress at the dojo felt slow, witnessing her progress in other areas of her life proves that she has actually made some big strides. I am very thankful to Mr. Reyes for continuing to work with her when I know that other instructors would not have accepted the challenge.

This happened a couple years ago, so I can't speak to how things are handled there now. But I had a…read morenegative experience trying to contact the Westchase flagship location about a serious concern connected to my experience at another affiliated location. The concern involved safety, conduct, and how issues involving staff or members were being handled. I made four separate calls to four different people, was unable to get a hold of anyone, left my callback information, and explained generally that I was trying to raise a serious concern that I believed warranted awareness or oversight. I did not receive a callback or meaningful follow-up. I am not reviewing any one person individually. My concern is that I attempted to raise a serious issue through multiple channels connected to the flagship location and was met with silence. With time, what stands out to me most is not only the original situation, but the lack of meaningful follow-up when I tried to raise it through what I understood to be appropriate channels. That kind of non-response leaves things unresolved. It also leaves the person who raised the concern carrying the consequences alone. In a martial arts environment, especially one involving physical training and close contact, trust and safety depend not only on what happens on the mat, but also on whether concerns can be raised and handled responsibly. From my experience at the time, I did not feel there was a reliable process for escalation, accountability, or member support.

The gym is basically like a Tardis, bigger on the inside! I have extreme anxiety about going to gyms when they're absolutely packed, and refreshingly there weren't a TON of people taking up all the machines. I went around 11:30am on a Tuesday. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a very friendly staff member. He made sure I was taken care of and let me know where the bathrooms and water fountains were while I waited for Bailey. The gym is CLEAN. Very nice aesthetic and not overwhelming. I forgot to ask, but I think they offer boxing? There's a boxing ring in the middle of the gym. That was awesome to see and very rare! My workout with Bailey was INTENSE, but in the best way. He pushed me past the limit that I thought I could do, but made sure I was always comfortable and not in pain where my injuries are. 10/10 will definitely be coming back!

I joined Kinetix Fitness in Jan 2025 as it was walking distance from my home residence. The gym has…read morefriendly staff and a laid-back atmosphere of members looking to come in, work out, and go on with their daily activities. My membership was going great up until a recent unexpected note in August 2025 that the gym's lease had ended and would need to move a location further away. Their initial email notice on August 8th at 325pm CST was clear and transparent, but the follow-up to members was not clear and timely as expected. I sent a follow up email on September 3rd, 2025, to find out when the new location will be open as we did not get an update since August 8th, 2025. I got a reply on September 6th, 2025, advising that they will not make the September 8th, 2025, target date and it would be extended due to a reassessment review from the fire marshal. The same day, September 6th, 2025, Kinetix sent a note to all members with the update plus charging September membership. At first, I understood the reasoning for the delay, but I did not agree that Kinetix would charge members for the month of September since the facility is still closed and provided no supplement to members that did not have access to a gym. After careful consideration, I decided to cancel my membership and request my September charge be refunded/prorated since they charged my account for a facility that is not operable. I am not sure when they will be open, but as of right now the gym is still temporarily closed on November 3rd 2025. It is unfortunate that the gym had to move and have a temporary closure, but I do not agree with charging memberships in September when the gym is closed. I would have appreciated not charging members accounts till facility is back up and running since they closed at the end of August 2025. My account has been cancelled, but now I am requesting my September charge be refunded and awaiting a reply. Neal advised on September 19th, 2025, that the request has been submitted and it may take a billing cycle to my account. Another follow up was provided by Neal on October 16th, 2025, to resolve after multiple emails, and still now no refund has been provided. I am sure I am not the only one that is dealing with these unfortunate issues, but I wanted to share my review/experience to those that may be thinking about joining Kinetix in the future. I do not recommend this gym as there are cheaper and much better options in the area.
