The contract for this business is drafted to continue forever unless written cancellation is received. Mr. Kim never mentioned about this indefinite term of the contract, and didn't give a copy to me to refer back to. I overlooked and signed the contract. It's used to refuse us refund for the 4th month charge. Having a perpetuate contract and counting on customers to overlook is a shady strategy. In addition, ambiguous pricing adjusted for maximum gain is not honest. I felt tricked as a customer and don't recommend this business. read more

Do not take your child to this place. Not only did my child not learn anything, they charged my credit continuously after the membership ended. I do not recommend this place to anyone. The scam is simply to have your child train forever, while they learn very little. Kim is so greedy he will not hire anyone to manage the administrative paperwork, so that he can train the children. This review is for Tiger J Kim's World Class TaeKwonDo in Pearland, Tx. The business is located in a small strip mall on the south side of Broadway. Also located in the strip mall is a doughnut shop and a pizza shop. There is adequate parking in the strip mall. Upon entering the business, you'll find a small office to the left and a row of benches along the right-hand wall. The benches serve as seating for visitors and parents who wish to watch their friends or children during classes. The dojang is of adequate size. When I first entered the business, I was immediately greeted by Master J.Kim and escorted into the office. Master J. Kim explained the $10 trial period. For $10, you can attend as many classes over a two week period as you wish. This allows ample time to determine whether you would benefit from their program. After leaving the office, I was greeted by Master Park who fitted me with the white belt. I went ahead with the $10 trial period and attended 4 classes over the next week. During the trial period, I was given plenty of individual attention by the instructors and was treated as though I was a "paying" member of the classes. I attended the adult classes and found the other students to be friendly, helpful, and encouraging. Needless to say, the experience was good for me. After one week, I decided to join their program. The program is well defined with attainable goals. You will receive a good workout during each class and the instructors do a nice job of mixing things up. You will not be bored. For me, the advantage of attending this program, and taking Taekwondo classes in general, is the all around workout that you will receive. As a friend of mine would say, the classes don't get easier but you get stronger - quickly. I also like that you will be challenged mentally by learning to speak Korean. As part of each step in the program, you'll be required to learn new Korean terminally. The physical and mental stimulation makes for a well-rounded workout. My child has been trained at Tiger J Kim's World Class Taekwondo in Pearland for almost a year. Comparing with other Taekwondo schools that my child has attended, there are positives and negatives. The positives: - Master J Kim and Master Park are both very friendly. They always greet you and shaking your hand when you come in. - Each training session lasts about 40 minutes consisting of 10 minutes warm up, 20 minutes nonstop high energy jumping kicking drills, and 10 minutes on forms. My child always sweat profusely after each training session. This is by far the highest intensity Taekwondo classes compare to other Taekwondo schools. - There is a junior leader program where higher level kids get to teach other lower level kids. - Master J Kim and Master Park teach kids common Korean phrases and counting. The negatives: - The class room is fairly small. It is probably fit up to 25 kids at any one time. However, there are plenty of time where the class has more than 40 kids plus with the parents waiting. There is just not enough room for the kids to stand let alone practicing. - Master J Kim and Master Park are engaged and active in demo but they let the kids to copy their moves on their own without correcting them. I saw a lot of kids with incorrect basics, bad kicking techniques, and bad forms. But they don't correct them despite it happened right in front of them. The problem is further compounded when they let inexperience junior leaders teaching the forms to the kids. - If you don't like car sale man tactic then this place is probably not for your. You can sign a 1 year contract or a 3 years contract. With the 3 years contract there is no rate hike or renewal fee. With the 1 year contract, there will be a $199 renewal fee and the rate may go up. There is no month to month option after one year contract. Master J Kim's reason for requiring a renewal after a one year contract is so that he knows the kid is committed to his school. Otherwise, he won't be committed to teaching the kid because the kid can leave any time. WTF??? The monthly rate is not cheap either. It is like $169/mo for each kid. On top of this, there are constant marketing pressures on kids and parents to recruit new members every few weeks in term of "Bring a Friend" day, "Bring a Parent" day, etc. If you are familiar with the discounted "Fitness Connection" gym where all they care about is selling as many memberships they can without any concerns of space availability for the members, this felt just like that. - Junior leaders are required to help teaching the class at least twice a week without pay. Some junior leaders are there just practically every day for several hours working for free. My kid loves Taekwondo and I wouldn't take my kid out of a school even without a contract. But after the comment about the "instructor is not committing to teaching my kid" without signing up for another year, it just rubbed me the wrong way. I cannot say enough positive things about this place. My daughter and I have both been training here for a year, and the results have been fantastic. My little six year old is beaming with confidence and an eagerness to learn more and more. I, myself, have gotten into much better shape, and I dare say my confidence has increased as well. My family and I trained under Master J Kim in Tega Cay, SC at Tiger Kim's World Class Tae Kwon Do. Without a doubt, Master J Kim is one of my favorite Masters I have trained under. He is very knowledgable, is an excellent sparring coach, and always makes classes interesting and challenging. I remember coming into class each day wondering what Master J Kim had in store for us today. He would break down technique in a way that made it understandable by everyone. Master J Kim was also great with the kids and young adults. For Junior Leaders, he held them to a high standard, which is what they need. He always talked to them about respect, how to behave as TKD students (even when not in class), and challenged them to grow and excel. I miss Master J Kim. My daughter and I are taking taekwondo classes here. Initially i wasn't sure if she was going to like it but now she does not want to miss a day of class. Master Kim and Master Park are awesome teachers. They are very patient with the kids, they give lots of encouragement for them to do and give their best, to show good example to others, and to be respectful to everyone not only in class but also in school and at home (and everywhere). Self-confidence is another thing that i have seen with their students, you'll see a lot of hands raised when the masters ask who wants to demonstrate a technique; or when he asks them to count in Korean they are not shy about speaking another language. My 9 years old girl attended Master J Kim for about a year. She started as a green belt coming from another Taekwondo school. When she started, she was ahead of most of the kids in her same belt level. However, over a course of a year, she did not improve much. She became really bore because it is pretty much the same routine with a lot of repetitions of turning kick, ax kick, tornado kick, split, pushups, etc. She came in already know how to do a proper back kick and by the time she left as a blue/red stripe, the back kick was the last kick they taught. There is no guidance or training on sparring. As the result, she picked up a lot of bad habits and confidence. She is attending another Taekwondo school now in Sienna Plantation. She has to unlearn these bad habits. For instance, the technique she was taught was to jump in with a foot to foot round house. The kid was not allowed to do head kick so she just jumps in without any fear and is prone to a lot of head kicks now. She was never taught to throw a cut kick when attacking or push her opponent when in close range. Her hands were low and not in the right position for certain kicks. Just a whole lot of basic techniques that were never taught. These were a little bit of a setback but I'm glad I could get my daughter to the right instructor before it was too late. Overall, Master J Kim class is good family oriented class. He emphasizes on respect and discipline which are excellent. He teaches good with forms and basic kicking techniques which are essential. It keeps kids in good shape and stay out of trouble. If you are looking for a more competitive Taekwondo, you may want to check out other schools with more emphasis on sparring techniques before your kids developed permanent bad habits that make it much harder to unlearn later. read more

Master Kim was my master in Bartlett, Illinois. In him, I gained an irreplaceable sparring coach, a wonderful teacher, and a lifelong role model. He was always trying to push me to be better, in taekwondo and in life, and was always interested to learn more about me to better suit how to train me and to create a positive teacher-student relationship. He knows how to interact with people of all ages, coming from all walks of life, for all sorts of reasons, and knows how to teach them to be the best that they can be.
