This happened a couple years ago, so I can't speak to how things are handled there now. But I had a…read morenegative experience trying to contact the Westchase flagship location about a serious concern connected to my experience at another affiliated location. The concern involved safety, conduct, and how issues involving staff or members were being handled. I made four separate calls to four different people, was unable to get a hold of anyone, left my callback information, and explained generally that I was trying to raise a serious concern that I believed warranted awareness or oversight. I did not receive a callback or meaningful follow-up. I am not reviewing any one person individually. My concern is that I attempted to raise a serious issue through multiple channels connected to the flagship location and was met with silence. With time, what stands out to me most is not only the original situation, but the lack of meaningful follow-up when I tried to raise it through what I understood to be appropriate channels. That kind of non-response leaves things unresolved. It also leaves the person who raised the concern carrying the consequences alone. In a martial arts environment, especially one involving physical training and close contact, trust and safety depend not only on what happens on the mat, but also on whether concerns can be raised and handled responsibly. From my experience at the time, I did not feel there was a reliable process for escalation, accountability, or member support.

Also located in the strip mall is a doughnut shop and a pizza shop. There is adequate parking in the strip mall. Upon entering the business, you'll find a small office to the left and a row of benches along the right-hand wall. The benches serve as seating for visitors and parents who wish to watch their friends or children during classes. The dojang is of adequate size. When I first entered the business, I was immediately greeted by Master J.Kim and escorted into the office. Master J. Kim explained the $10 trial period. For $10, you can attend as many classes over a two week period as you wish. This allows ample time to determine whether you would benefit from their program. After leaving the office, I was greeted by Master Park who fitted me with the white belt. I went ahead with the $10 trial period and attended 4 classes over the next week. During the trial period, I was given plenty of individual attention by the instructors and was treated as though I was a "paying" member of the classes. I attended the adult classes and found the other students to be friendly, helpful, and encouraging. Needless to say, the experience was good for me. After one week, I decided to join their program. The program is well defined with attainable goals. You will receive a good workout during each class and the instructors do a nice job of mixing things up. You will not be bored. For me, the advantage of attending this program, and taking Taekwondo classes in general, is the all around workout that you will receive. As a friend of mine would say, the classes don't get easier but you get stronger - quickly. I also like that you will be challenged mentally by learning to speak Korean. As part of each step in the program, you'll be required to learn new Korean terminally. The physical and mental stimulation makes for a well-rounded workout. I would highly suggest that you give the introductory special a try.

I started BJJ in January, so I'm pretty new to all of this. What made my experience so special from…read morethe beginning was Professor Ulpiano. He always had a smile, always greeted me warmly, and from day one, I genuinely felt like I belonged. The tagline is "jiu-jitsu for everyone," and he truly lived that out. Sadly, he has passed, and I wanted to leave something here as a testament to who he was as a professor. His passion and dedication always showed. He once said, "The best professor is a professor that's happy to be there," and you felt that every single time he taught. If you're thinking about trying something new or stepping outside your comfort zone, I really do recommend this place. Professor Ulpiano made it more than a gym. He made it a community.

The instructors are unparalleled. Their kindness, patience, and motivation create an atmosphere where every child feels valued and supported. As a parent of a child with autism, I was initially apprehensive, but Ms. Master assured me that he would thrive, and she was absolutely right! L4L not only accommodates his needs but also actively engages with him, ensuring he never feels left behind. Their commitment to inclusivity and empowerment is truly commendable, and I am so appreciative my son feels accepted there. They not only teach martial arts skills but also valuable life lessons. The way they communicate with the kids is uplifting and empowering, and I have even implemented some of their techniques at home with great success (yes, it's a bit of a parenting class also lol). The curriculum is amazing. The school doesn't just focus on physical aspects but also emphasizes mental strength and character development. They really make the kids into leaders! The growth I've witnessed in my kids throughout the past year they've been enrolled has been nothing short of amazing. They have become more confident, focused, and disciplined, attributes that extend beyond the martial arts classes and into their everyday lives. When they go to tournaments, the instructors are there cheering them on, and it makes them feel so good. The sense of community at L4L is palpable, and it's a blessing to be a part of the Leaders for Life family.
