Mr. Raed and Ms. Alyssa are super dedicated instructors. I checked a lot of places before I picked here. I was seriously concerned about teaching my kid to respect the self defense skills he learned, and only using it when appropriate. I see a lot of issues at schools with kids play fighting For example, throwing their friend down on the floor from something they learned in Jiujitsu or even punching and kicking. The kids think it is all fun and games, and dont seem to understand the consequences or know that they will be held accountable.
I also wanted to make sure what the kids learn they can actually use and isn't just for show. It literally is a science for them and they have force sensor so kids can actually measure their progress. Their last black belt was this skinny kid who could punch with a force of 400lb.
These teachers are crazy strict and always remind their students they have to be able to trust them with what they are taught. They teach kids that their decisions and behavior impact everyone, not just themselves. Mr. Raed reminds me of my grandparents generation. He is a lot tougher on kids than people are these days, and I think we need more of that.
This school has transitioned onto the online format really well during the Pandemic! I was really worried this kind of class would not work online, but my kid is doing well and learning new material. The instructors have been creative working with the circumstances.
My kid has been with them for about 3 years now (started at the age of 3), and is in love with Mr. Raed and Ms. Alyssa. He logs into his zoom lessons early just to chat with them and talk about his day.
I saw the 1 star review by JP and am not sure what happened, but I know a lot of people who sign up for martial arts dont understand what they are getting into. As for confidence, I have NEVER seen either teacher be tough on a student for struggling with material. They are incredibly patient and work with special needs students too. They do come down hard on students for poor behavior and being lazy. I disagree with JP's assessment 100%. I did Karate growing up and these are really good teachers.
As for JP saying they are rude. I would describe them as Straightforward, and they dont believe the customer is always right. Myself and other families have watched them show potential new customers the door when they realize the student and their family is not a good fit for the program and the words "I dont want their money if they come in here and mess up class for all of us. I know what a real black belt is. Dont try to tell me otherwise".
It literally says in their google ad, "Quality over Quantity". As actively enrolled it makes me feel special and . . . protected. read more
