I recently rented a car at HNL to drive over to Ko Olina, since I have always been curious about visiting the last corner of Oahu which I have never visited. As a Disney fan, I have always wanted to visit Aulani. My curiosity was further deepened after Disney held the premiere for Moana 2 at the Lanikūhonua Cultural Institute at Ko Olina. Unfortunately, it looks like everyone else had the same idea. Ko Olina was completely jammed with tourists that weekend. After over an hour and half of sitting in heavy traffic congestion, I finally found a spot at the very expensive pay lot ($22 per day, no hourly parking) at Lagoon 4. Then I walked over to Lagoon 4 in time to see the sunset and was not impressed. By that time, I was so frustrated with the situation that I was not in the mood to spend two hours to walk all the way to Lagoon 1 and back. I got back in the car and went to see Kapolei, which was also disappointing. I guess Ko Olina might be worth it if you are staying at one of its overpriced resorts. As a day trip, it is a waste of time and money until the surge of Moana 2 fans is under control. read more

When you enter the area, you'll see a sign that tells you how many parking spaces are within each lagoon. Since it said there was opening at lagoon three we opted to go to this one. I'm so glad we did! It's located in front of the Marriot. There's plenty of sand and seating to lounge in. There's a bathroom and a rinse off area. The wind was blowing where you can see the waves beyond the rocks but it definitely slowed down the waves to the shore. I walked to the other lagoons and this one was the nicest. Lagoon 2 looked kind of murky and Lagoon 1 was too busy with a lot of people, which was at the Aulani resort. If you're hungry, they have a snack bar , quite pricey or walk to the market. I opted to go to the market at the resort. They had paninis, hot dogs, sandwiches, pretzels, nachos, Starbucks, ice cream, smoothies and other convenience store snacks. I highly recommend this lagoon for a beautiful beach day. read more

Parking fee at the Ko'Olina market place is a rip off! Yes, I am one of them who doesn't like the new crap going on here. Is it free for the residents of Ko'Olina? Without much proof, I think it is. There are bunch of signs every where, something like one sign for every 4 cars so you can not say did see the sign. If you are dining or stopping by at the ABC or Crazy shirt, you must pay for the parking. Yes, it is not that expensive but the idea of paying for it when it was free just chaps my hide. There is a parking attendant constantly patrolling the area and if you think you can get away, you better watch out! Thanks to the others who parked their vehicles here to use the beach across. Now, you are making our resort life style even more irritating. There are no discounts or free parking for coming to the businesses at this shopping center. By the way, their web site is awesome but it features photos of other beautiful landmark of other Hawaiian islands like Iao Needle from Maui, definitely not a photo of Ko Olina. read more

During my visit to Hawaii I stayed at Aulani which is a resort owned by Disney that is located within the Ko Olina community. I spent a good amount of time exploring the resort area so I figured that warranted it's own review - so here we go! Ko Olina is located on the southwest shores of Oahu, and contains a number of different lodgings, homes, and amenities. In addition to Aulani, the area is also home to a few more resorts such as the Four Seasons and a Marriott, as well as residences, shops, restaurants, beaches, and golf courses. Ko Olina is also home to Paradise Cove which hosts events such as luaus. I took the time to explore the grounds during my stay, and really enjoyed simply walking around and absorbing the aesthetics. There are a lot of walking paths and several lagoons with beaches. I was also impressed with the variety of shops and restaurants present - it's super convenient to get light groceries, sundries, or a souvenir. One of the drawbacks that I found with Ko Olina is that it's a little far from Honolulu. You can totally make a vacation out of staying within Ko Olina's grounds, but if you're looking to explore the island then it can be a bit of a drive to get to the main tourist sites - it really depends on the type of vacation you're looking for. Overall, Ko Olina was beautiful - it's definitely a picturesque place to spend time while in Hawaii with a lot of amenities to take advantage of. I would definitely consider staying at one of the resorts here again if I ever return to Oahu. read more

Besides the recently added pay for parking in the shopping area this is a great place. There are several resorts, a luau, shopping, ice cream, coffee, restaurants, golfing, and multiple lagoons to go swimming, tan, or just take photos. There is a walking path connecting the lagoons so you can just go for a leisure stroll and enjoy the view at each location. The view is worth the hassle for parking as is the food. There is very limited parking by the parking and restaurant area, but plenty for golfing/Roy's Ko Olina restaurant. There is also parking at each resort and for the lagoons. You will be paying for parking. When entering Ko Olina you will pass a sign that shows if the lagoon parking is full or not. read more

Sunday, 26th January 2020 the parking at Lagoon 4 was pretty open. We had a lot of parking spaves to choose from. We planned on going to Lagoon 4 but, upon arrival, the water was rough even with the reef blocking some of the waves. We really didn't want to leave without enjoying the water so we walked over to lagoon 3 to see if it was the same. Luckily, the water was a little calmer. It was about 830am on a Sunday when we arrived. Although the water was less rough, it was frothy and littered with leaves and other debris (not rubbish, just branches and other shrubs). After about an hour, the water calmed and all the debris cleared up. By this time, the water was so calm and clear you could see the bottom. The beach itself wasn't too crowded and the sun was playing hide & seek with the clouds so it was enjoyable. After about 2.5 to 3 hours we cleaned up and walked but to Lagoon 4 parking. By that time, there were a line of cars waiting for someone to leave so they could park. read more

This is one of several lagoons that has public access. It is located in the area where Marriott vacations is. Came here on a Tuesday afternoon, and there was no crowd. Parking was free although with only about 20 maximum spots. Hotel area is demarcated from the public access side by a rope, but my companion and I used the hotel's beach chairs without incident. There were several fish especially by the rocky areas, so bring your snorkel gear. Water was clear, warm and calm. Public shower and dressing areas just within walking distance (2 minutes). Please no soap or shampoo - save that for your home. On other islands, there is a ban on chemical sunscreen. DO try to use reef safe products. read more

Met some friends who live Ewa side so over past few months we've enjoyed using the Ko Olina grounds for an accessible meeting place for hiking, walking, and fitness workouts. There are plentiful shops and other vendors where you can buy water and healthy foods to replenish the body's energy reserves, and with the current situation, traffic is a minimal making the location even more pedestrian friendly. Some restrooms are also available although not all them are open with the Covid restrictions. Best to ask the local shops to get the most current information. Viewed some impressive sunsets here too. Everyone kept talking to me about these lagoons that I just had to see so I took the day to go visit them. Unfortunately parking here is part of what keeps the lagoons so exclusive so I went from lagoon to lagoon until I found parking and ended up here . . . And I couldn't be more thrilled! After gathering all my stuff I headed up the walk way to the water and was greeted with a beautiful view. It wasn't crowded but what I did notice is that the beach is sectioned off for what I believe to be resort/hotel guest and us regular folks. I walked down to lagoon 4 and noticed that it had more people there so once again I was happy with where I was. I also passed a shower and a water fountain on my walk over, which is always nice so you aren't carrying half the beach back to the car with you. So let me state I was a rule breaker . . . There was a sign posted to not climb on the rocks but I just had to get closer, so climb the rocks (in my water shoes) I did and I don't regret it one bit! I was able to see crabs and sea urchin near the water as well as getting some great pictures. I was up there for about 45 minutes before someone politely told me I had to get off. I also took snorkeling gear with me and I was happy to see some fish near the line as well as near the rocks! So in my humble opinion this is a must do and it's also a nice place to bring the kids as you don't have to worry about the waves swallowing them and dragging them out to sea like some of the other beaches. read more

We have been living in the resort area for over a year, my better half has been working at a resort here since 2014, we have been visiting here since 2003 and have owned a timeshare here since 2004. Ko Olina is close to our hearts in many ways. Come here as soon as you can before the Atlantis resort arrives. The lagoons are mostly unspoiled. The only exception is Lagoon One gets crowded from the Disney Aulani Resort and Lagoon Three gets mold during the summer time. It is one of the most amazing places to walk, run, swim or most other exercises your heart desires. The weather is near perfect most of the year. We now walk less than a half mile to the lagoons from our townhome (ranch style duplex) now that we are living here currently. However whatever you do, don't stop by on your drive back from anywhere else on the island. We decided to grab lunch on Sunday at the Mekiko Cantina (DELICIOUS!!!) and parked in the the correct lot for 45 min, and got a stupid ticket for "illegal beach parking." UH WTF??? They stick a big fat sticker on the driver window with a nasty written note saying that next time they will tow your car. Good luck with that since it's a rental! Not walking over there the rest of our visit & will give our money to the restaurants at the resort or in town in Kapolei instead. With current pandemic economic conditions I thought they would appreciate the business. The Assistant Director of Operations, Mr. Lueder, implied he does not want Kama'aina spenders to park in the parking area and support the restaurants in the hotels. I am sorry for the hard working hospitality workers. Unfortunately since the Operations Management targets paying Kama'aina customers, it is better to spend the money elsewhere. Recommend to go up Farrington Highway to Nanakuli or Waianae to spend your money. Restaurants and businesses are glad to take your money and the parking is free. read more

The many pools are amazing (especially in the evening) and the beach is kept clean and was not over crowded. Our favorite part was snorkeling from beach and watching the sunsets. There are a variety of things to do in Koolina but honestly my favorite thing to do it here... IS EAT (AND DRINK)!! Monkeypod, Roy's Koolina, Fish House, and many more!! The golf course is beautiful and well manicured!! I love the ladybug logo!! The manmade beaches are nice and aren't too rough due to the rock walls that were built! There are nice hotels and pool bars at just about every hotel! Five stars seems appropriate for my 100th review. Ko Olina is my favorite spots in Hawaii where I can truly relax and reflect upon my life: present and future. As you enter, you'll pass by a security station where you mention your destination. This is also the location of Paradise Cove Luau, JW Marriott Ihilani Hotel, Roy's Restaurant, a golf course, time shares, residential units, a marina, a wedding chapel and the future home of Disney Resorts. There are a total of four man made lagoons which offers calm waves without the rough ocean currents. It's a wonderful place to get the beach setting for vacationers, families and locals. With only four public parking lots (19 spaces plus 2 handicap spots), finding an open parking spot takes a combination of luck and timing. At times, employees have discouraged vehicles waiting by the lots for someone to exit. During major peak times, the the security stations provides a lagoon pass to display on the dashboard. There was also a time when I was denied access because of the maximum capacity but somehow I finagled my way in. Lagoon one is usually is my favorite because it's close to the hotel. They have a few stationary umbrellas for the public and lounge chairs closer to the hotel for their guests. I've been to all the lagoons and they are all beautiful and they offer restrooms and outdoor showers to rinse off. This property has many resort quality features. I've had the opportunity to golf there and saved some money during their twilight hours. During the early morning, you'll see plenty of walkers and runners enjoy the pedestrian paths throughout the community. This is also the location where I trained for my SD marathon. From the entrance to the last security station is 4.5 miles loop. (see profile pix) The JW Marriott Ihilani Hotel hosts a beautiful hotel, spa and dining experience. My meals at Azul have been delightful and the service was above average. The hotel has many picturesque spots to capture the resort essence. For those looking to get married in Hawaii, Ko Olina has a chapel where you can hire a wedding coordinator to provide you with your dream wedding. After the ceremony, the couple can take pictures on the beach and do like me: be a wedding crasher! (see profile pix) One of my most memorable dining experiences was Roy's Restaurant where the golf course is located. The food was outstanding (I'll write my review for them one of these days) along with the pleasant company. As for the perfect sunset, make your way towards the hotel and walk towards the beachfront. Try not to step on the rocks in the ocean because they are rough and sharp. You'll see a path leading directly to the water where you can watch the most stunning, breathtaking sunset ever. Now you get a sense of how special this location is for me. Ko'Olina is a large resort area on the leeward side of Oahu, about 17 miles west of the HNL airport, and 25 miles or so west of Waikiki. There are 4 identical man-made lagoons here. One is dominated by the Marriott Resort, then next by the newly opened (2011) Disney Aulani Resort, another with Marriott time shares, and the forth one is where the Ko'Olina Resort and Marina are. Like most beaches in Hawaii, all of the lagoons are open to the public, so you don't have to spend $400 a night at Marriotts to come and enjoy the lagoons. When you enter the huge entire complex, there is a guard post and resort guests go to the left, the public goes to the right. You circle around and pass the resorts and beautifully manicured greenery which are in stark contrast to the dry, brown, local shrubbery of the Kapolei area and the Leeward side in general. Most non-tourists come to the 4th lagoon. The lagoons are like salt water pools, protected by large rock barriers from the open waters, so there is no wave action inside, perfect for your Keiki and Ohana (kids and family). There are plenty of grass areas to picnic and layout and work on your tan, all in a bowl shape, so you can keep an eye on the Keiki, too. There are facilities to wash off the sand, bathrooms, and plenty of parking. The parking is in 2 lots, the right side one is free and limited to capacity, and the left side which is $10 a car. Ko'Olina is a hidden gem on Oahu, and perfect for local families on the growing leeward side of the island, from Pearl City to Waipau, Ewa, and other communities to bring their Keiki for a safe and beautiful Ohana day at the beach. Or for the tourist who may not be staying at the Ko'Olina resorts, but want a family friendly beach away from the crowds of Waikiki. read more

This resort is awesome! I live here and I couldn't have picked a better place. There are 4 man-made lagoons that are excellent for swimming. The water is calm and warm. Lagoon 1A is great for snorkeling. You are literally swimming with giant sea turtles. If you're lucky like I was one Saturday morning you see seals laying on the beach sunning. I can't say enough about the atmosphere at Koolina. When you enter the property you instantly get that feeling of paradise you imagine Hawaii to be. I love running through the entire property, which if you run both sides could be up to 8 miles. Running along the lagoons is so surreal. The great thing about the lagoons is that they are open to the public. The down side to that is that there is limited parked. There is also a Marina. There are plenty of restaurants. As well as Koolina being the home of the famous Paradise Cove Luau and the Disney Resort hotel. If you are coming to live in Hawaii, Koolina is definitely an option you should consider. Ko Olina is a beautiful man made beach [lagoon]! I live right in the back and pretty much seen it being "built." From sugar cane fields to beautiful hotels and lagoons. This is one of the best places to bring the keikis! Very calm waters, no rocks, no need to worry about sharks. Although you need to be on the look out for signs warning you of jelly fish! It's also a great place to snorkel being that they have a lot of tropical fish swimming around. You'll even spot the state fish the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a! In between the rocks if you look good you'll see some eels and octopus. It's not Hanauma Bay, but it's still pretty. On a clear day its super easy to see those fish! There are a lot of rules to these lagoons. Such as no big umbrellas, no bbqing, no throwing balls..just to name a few. Not everyone listens. But there is beach patrol to enforce the rules. Parking is hell if you come at a busy time. Especially on holidays and summer time! There are 4 lagoons and each lagoon has about 14 parking stalls I'd say. The 1st lagoon has 2 parkings places. Labeled 1a & 1b. Sometimes threes a line for parking. The 4th lagoon however, has more parking than the rest but sometimes even that fills up quickly! They do offer additional parking for $10 a day. Which to me is crazy! If coming on a holiday i recommend you be there about 8am if you want parking! I love jogging/walking here. I jog/walk from my house, which is about a mile away. The scenery is so beautiful especially at sunset. Sometimes I just take a walk to sit and enjoy the beautiful sunset. There's really good views of the Waianae coastline. Overall, this is a beautiful place to spend the day with the Ohana. :) Not over crowded with tourist like Waikiki. read more

I'm a huge fan of this place. I love how it's split into multiple lagoons that are all absolutely beautiful and help to make it feel a bit more private and less crowded with the way they're divided. If you're not a guest, be sure to arrive early to find free parking! It's very limited, but I don't mind it because it cuts down on the crowds. People will seriously just line up their vehicles along the side waiting for a parking space. If the free ones are taken, I believe you can pay $10 for the whole day by the marina. This is definitely one of my favorite beach locations for relaxation on Oahu. It's completely gorgeous and I can easily spend all day here. It's also close by to a lot of good restaurants if you don't want to eat at the on-site resorts. There's also grass on the outer edge of the lagoons with a cute sidewalk and pathway that connects all of them together. The grass is nice with a lot of trees to provide shade if you don't want to lay out in the sun and sand all day. If you don't mind the parking hassle, and are looking for a nice place to relax and get away from the Waikiki beaches and crowds, then I definitely recommend this. read more

Being from the mainland, I chose Ko'Olina as it is one of the very few places in Oahu you can get married on a beach, toes in sand, with an arch backdrop and chairs set up for our guests. From the very start, they were accommodating with my request and even provided a wedding planner, Lissa Wilson, who I worked with so well, even hired her for the reception portion of my program (reception venue located elsewhere). Ko'Olina worked with my budget, didn't try to oversell me anything unnecessary (like extra chairs), provided a great Officiant (Reverend Kimo Taylor) who was able to give us his wedding program ahead of time and we were able to personalize to our needs, the flowers offered in the package through Always Flowers were a seamless transaction, even allowed a bare arch so that my florist Uncle could decorate to his desire. Lissa was very friendly, provided good feedback and recommendations, and what was really nice was they offered water to my guests during the ceremony. You basically arrive in your car and a golf cart shuttles you down to the ceremony site. Unique and pretty cool. Well timed too. We're so glad that we had our wedding at Ko'Olina and was able to do our dream wedding on the beach with our toes in the sand.
