My platinum, diamond encrusted diamond solitaire ring was in terrible shape. One of the small diamond "chips" was missing. The band had flattened out on one side, creating 2 gaps in the platinum. The ring was filthy. It's hard to describe the awful shape the ring was in, but someone said it looked like it was run over by a truck. By the time Knutson's was done, my 20 year old ring looked BRAND NEW!! I couldn't be happier! Scott was so helpful and professional, Julie was so friendly and Dolce was simply adorable. Scott is the best of the best! He created my mother-in-law's engagement ring many years ago, which she passed on to my husband to give to me. Scott then redesigned it to perfectly fit my style, and anticipated exactly what I wanted to create the ring of my dreams. For custom jewelry, he draws a mock up of the design and creates a mold for you to review so you can offer feedback through the process (although we did not make any changes!). We also used him to create a ring for my husband using my great-grandfather's wedding band, and he again totally surpassed our expectations. The entire staff at Knutson's is great and super friendly!! Heard about Knutson's from my boyfriend's (now husband) mother after he told her that we were looking at engagement rings. I had never heard of Knutson's (they don't advertise and are found by word of mouth) and was somewhat apprehensive about going there and wasting their time especially since I had found a setting that I like at jewelry store in Old Town Clovis. First visit was by Knute who was very welcoming, super friendly, all smiles. He explained their views on customer service as well as their process for making jewelry. Knute wrote notes on what I was looking for and told me that he would have Scott give me a call. First meeting with Scott was great! Same welcoming demeanor as his father. Explained the process of designing a one-of-a-kind piece and gave us a tour of their place including the workshop. Second meeting with Scott included me providing him with approximately 5 photos of different rings, each with one trait about them that I wanted in my own ring. Scott took copius notes about each detail that I described. Few weeks later Scott called me and emailed me his sketches of my ring. I was literally blown away by his design!! I then feared that the ring I was seeing was something that was out of my price range. Met with Scott in person to go over price breakdown which was very close to my budget. Scott sent the sketch off to his "wax guy" who is the best at creating in wax, the very fine details that Scott puts down on paper. After I approved the wax mold, the creation began. A few weeks later I got the call from Scott that my ring was finished. When Scott opened the box to show me my ring for the very first time I literally got emotional and my eyes welled up with tears. Atmosphere: Very very nice atmosphere, professional, but also personal. This is a family owned business, and it shows. Father and son both work there, and occasionally you will see the mother there as well. Quality is definitely the best in Fresno, fully customized jewelry from the ground up available here, all the way down to copying a design from your own sketches. Sells Reps: The best in town, they are not pushy at all, they don't talk to you with the attitude of "what can I sell you today," but more of how they can help you. They're willing to spend a good portion of their time simply educating you in choosing diamonds, looking at color and inclusions under a lupe etc, if you ask--which is what most consumer jewelers, and even the better jewelers consider to be a "waste" of their time. Expect to be treated as a higher class of buyer, since that is the demographic they sell too--don't expect to simply come in, browse, and go out as you might with a consumer jeweler. Note that they don't even advertise, except in the phonebook, because of this purpose; they prefer referrals rather than the masses. Price: Expect to pay through the nose! They cater to upper class buyers with the cash, and will treat you as such. Prices on just about everything are marked up almost beyond belief--however, the quality here is top notch. You won't find better anywhere else in town. Plus their main business is custom jewelry from the ground up, and for this category their prices are more reasonable. The Rap: Locally, the best in town. The main draw is their fully decked out customization. Bring in drawings, pictures, or simply tell them an idea of what you're looking for, and they will produce various sketches to help you meet your goal, then build a model for confirmation and your ring from the ground up. Again, prices are a premium, but if your spouse or girlfriend does not like the custom style of ring you made, you can bring it back and build something completely different (of the same value) at no extra cost! This reduces the risk of making custom rings by leaps and bounds. Even consumer stores won't give you as much time to return a run of the mill ring. Call before you visit--even if you call 15 minutes ahead of time, they usually take you in, it's more for security reasons that they leave the door locked. Instead of boring everyone with a long drawn out play by play of my experience at this Jeweler I'm going to try to break it down as simple and straight forward as possible. My fiancé and I have been totally jaded by all the terrible experiences that we've had with all of our local jewelers from before. We were in the market to upgrade my engagement ring when my future MIL recommended we try going there. We were super skeptical but Scott reassured us that we were in good hands. The first thing he says to us is "Think of me as your coach first, jeweler second" he then sat with us for three (yes three) hours explaining designs, diamond cuts, diamond clarity and amazing vacation spots haha. Time flew and before we knew it, we were picking out the tiny diamonds that were going to be used in our ring. Not once did we feel rushed, we even went back and forth in diamond sizing and weighed out the cost of all our ideas. After we decided what we were looking for he explained the process, we gave us the grand tour of his studio and where he works on each part of the ring. They do EVERYTHING in house! Not once were we pressured into paying more, he was mostly interested in what we wanted and right fitting the ring to my personality. He asked us when we would like the ring ideally, and told us he'd try his best to meet that deadline. We asked him about a deposit and he quite frankly said "Get it to me when you can." So we left and he got to work on the wax mold. A few weeks later he called us in and we got to see the wax mold of the ring (mind you we hadn't paid a dime yet) it was gorgeous, exactly what we wanted, we quickly paid the deposit and he said that they were on track for the deadline and sent us on our way. Oh. My. Goodness. Not only was the ring done on time, it was gorgeous. He even threw in an appraisal for us along with ring cleaner and a few other goodies. I've only had my ring back for less than a week but I've received so many compliments and I never miss a chance to mention where I went and how amazing the entire experience was. Lastly, my fiancé and I are from San Francisco so the drive back and forth wasn't easy, but it was well worth it for the final result.
