The cabins are reasonably priced and couldn't be closer to the ocean, and the manager, Joe, is kind and helpful and willing to go out of his way to make sure your stay at the cabins goes well. Some people put lodging together in ways that show you they've thought about your comfort. Other people send the message that they don't care about you at all. Hope you're also a fan of WEAK water pressure -- and the bedding (comforter) in the king room looked like it had been well marked by a dog. Sweet. I will say we had GREAT views from the family room and deck. Saw a TON of whales right from the family room. We kept plenty warm and cozy. We rented a $230/night house (called HAVEN) for a family birthday getaway. The day after we checked in, we discovered an infestation of ants all over the kitchen and in the living room - they were in the kitchen cupboards, on the counter, all over the floor (see pics). It was really disgusting. I cleaned up hundreds of ants and they were still everywhere. I felt like I had ants all over my body. I was in distress. This is not the $230/night deluxe experience I had envisioned. I sent photos to this management company and called them immediately. The first person I spoke to said that they were MADE AWARE THE HOUSE HAD ANTS, a week ago - but thought they had fixed the problem. She offered to send a maintenance person to check things out, but said the options would be to spray chemicals (I had my dog there, and wouldn't allow this), or to use a sugar wash, which, she explained, would make the problem worse before it got better. Oh, super. I told her that I was really uncomfortable and didn't know what to do. Neither of these options would work and I didn't want anyone else in the house due to COVID. She did not offer any additional options, so in my distress, I relented and said the maintenance person could come at least check things out. They gave me 30 minutes to vacate for the maintenance person. It was pouring down rain so a bit inconvenient but... ok. A few minutes later as we were preparing to vacate, I opened up a cupboard to get a glass of water and ants were running around all of our plates and cups in the cabinets. My kids were upset and I was disgusted, and we decided we didn't want to be there at all. I called back and spoke to the owner this time. This is where the gaslighting began! I told her as politely as I could that we were uncomfortable and would be leaving. She then LAUGHED AT ME and loudly cawed, "You're LEAVING OVER SUGAR ANTS??" Then she said, "it's not like it's mice or rats! They don't bite, they don't sting, and they don't carry disease!" OHHH. OK! I don't mind if I find a few swimming in my morning coffee, then! No prob. #BeachLife! She also tried this one: "this is NORMAL for Manzanita!" When I tried to tell her that I've been vacationing at the coast at Seaside since I was young, and had never experienced anything like this, she cut me off to explain, "This isn't SEASIDE, it's MANZANITA!" OHHH! Yes, right, this town is 30 minutes down the coast from the one I grew up going to... and thus has a compleeeetely different climate, vegetation and pests, and that makes an ant infestation perfectly acceptable, perfectly normal, perfectly healthy. When I explained that I did not want any chemicals to be sprayed because I had my dog in the house, she again CUT ME OFF to tell me she has EXPENSIVE dogs and she would NEVER put dogs in danger. OK? Not sure why I needed to know she has expensive dogs. This is not about you, Karen. This is about us, you know, the people who paid almost $2000 to stay here? She never once apologized. She never offered to set us up with a different property. She just attempted to gaslight me into thinking I was CrAzY for wanting to vacate a property swarming with lovable, friendly little ants. Meanwhile, my body still itches. She went on and on for so long without letting me speak, that my daughter eventually took the phone from me and told her we would be leaving, and hung up. We packed up our things and got out of ANT HAVEN. I requested a refund through AirBnb, which the property manager has declined. But it's fine, I'm dealing directly with AirBnb to resolve it. And, this is just review #1. I do not love an ant colony in my silverware drawer, but I DO love a review. And I'm only getting started. Avoid. Unless you love ants and being insulted.

Stocked very well as far as blankets, kitchen items, soaps, etc. The decor and furnishings felt higher-end and the beds were very comfortable. The master shower is very big! Not to mention, the backyard was absolutely beautiful, the pool was very clean and it just felt so serene. The house was in a great location-- central to almost everything. There weren't any huge negatives, but a few things to note. Dirty sheets were left in the washer (didn't smell good), the carpet is a bit worn, and the shower curtain liner in the smaller bathroom is pretty ripped and needs replaced. Toilet paper was very low-quality as well. Communication was more automated than I'm used to (large company) but the info provided was helpful and I had no issues. I would definitely consider staying at this spacious and centrally-located rental again. We felt it was decently affordable compared to other options nearby.

There was hair in the bed, stains on the sheets and comforter, visibly dirty floors, stained rugs, and a kitchen sink that drained very slowly. We were told laundry detergent would be provided, but there were no pods available. The home also lacked basic cleaning supplies, which was especially concerning given its condition when we arrived. The BBQ was clearly not properly cleaned or maintained. It had so much buildup that it caught fire inside and produced enough smoke to set off the home's fire alarms. The dryer also took an extremely long time to dry clothes. The hot tub was another major disappointment. We contacted the property in advance because of concerns in previous reviews, including reports of bacterial infections, yet it was still disgusting and had a strong fishy smell when we arrived. Someone was sent to "clean" it, but the solution appeared to be little more than adding chemicals. We still did not feel comfortable using it, and it did not appear to be thoroughly drained and cleaned between guests. The game room and kids' areas were also poorly maintained. Games had broken nets, missing pieces, or were falling apart, and some children's chairs were broken and unsafe. Several remotes either didn't work, had dead batteries, or were missing, and promised replacements never arrived. The listing also significantly understates the walk to the beach. It is definitely longer than a two-minute walk and includes a substantial hill--important information for anyone traveling with young children or elderly family members. We were also disappointed by the lack of flexibility with early check-in. Even 30 minutes early would have been helpful, and there did not seem to be a meaningful reason it could not be accommodated. Ultimately, you are paying a premium primarily for the view, but the home itself is not worth the price. It needs better cleaning, maintenance, and basic upkeep. We left feeling that the listing overstated the property and that a major advertised amenity--the hot tub--was unusable. I would strongly recommend saving your money and booking with a private host or smaller rental company that may provide better hospitality and take better care of the property.

So, if you are dying to get away from it all to a secluded Oregon coastal town for a relaxing weekend, then you might consider a house rental as opposed to a spendy coastal hotel. You can rent an entire pet friendly house for less than one night in a hotel at many popular Oregon Coast towns. Prices are as low as $89 a night in off season. We always rent the same house and it is very clean and comfortable. This is a great option when you really want a vacation, and prefer the privacy and comfort of a house rental versus a tiny hotel room. Of course, you won't have room service, and daily maid service either, but it is a good trade for the price.

On one occasion when we were detained at the coast due to car trouble Tracey worked with us to secure three extra nights at the same property and at a good price. After almost 7 years of renting from NCBR, we have stayed in most of their Rockaway homes, and a few in Manzanita. We have our favorite but all have been honestly marketed, clean and maintained, in good locations--some have fantastic views--and many allow pets for a small extra fee. We always appreciate having a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and often a yard, fire pit or spa. Until we can afford to buy our own home at the beach someday, NCBR will always be our first choice for a getaway on the North Oregon Coast.
