We were looking forward to our stay at the Happy Camp property, but we were ultimately disappointed. It was not evident at booking that the property we were reserving was about 10 minutes away from the main location. There were no directions regarding check in, and that made it a hassle to backtrack to the main location for access. The main reasons we booked this rental were for the outdoor space overlooking the ocean and the hot tub. While the view was unbeatable, there was no propane provided for the fire table and the hot tub was green, so we weren't able to use either. My husband left a couple messages with the office but never got a response. When we raised this with the manager at check out, she indicated that we should have called for them to fix it and that she thought the hot tub was safe to use anyway (definitely not willing to test that theory). When we pointed out the unreturned calls, she was very dismissive. While the property itself was nice, the service and care were lacking. read more

What a dump. I'm sure these cabins were well kept at one point. That no longer seems to be the case in 2025. We rented cabin #6 for the weekend and were pretty disappointed to have spent so much for such a run-down rental. We immediately wished we had stayed elsewhere. I was greeted by the managers growling dog. Fun! The human seemed nice though. First, the positives: Great view and access to the bay/ocean. And the fireplace was nice, but the circulator didn't work to keep the airflow going with the doors closed. Kind of a bummer. - That's it. The negatives: The couch was gross and partly covered by a fitted sheet/cover, while the upper portion was exposed and peeling. Time for a new couch! Then there was an antique upright record player (for some reason) that we couldn't get to work; just taking up space. Interesting choice. The entire back half of the cabin (bedroom/bathroom) is on such a slant that we felt so disoriented walking around. I am posting a photo of the bed, which has been shimmed on one side to account for the lopsided floors. The level of this cabins cleanliness was very questionable. Bugs trapped under the glass in the artwork, stains on the comforter, dust and sand e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. And yeah, I realize we're steps from the beach, but it didn't feel like the floors had been cleaned in quite some time. When the evening light penetrates the windows you can see it all. Just gross. Also, each nightstand lamp in the bedroom wasn't working; turns out they were both unplugged. WISH I HADN'T SEEN BEHIND THE BED! Others had mentioned the woman who smoked. We saw her quite a few times standing in front of our cabin cigarette in hand. Not a fan of that. We won't be back. read more

Pros -Location location location......... Cons- filthy dirty and dilapidated structure. I did not want to touch anything, luckily we had a blanket to put over the couch. Dog hair everywhere, it was apparent that no vacuuming of the floor and couch took place in a long time. Or mopping of the kitchen or bathroom for that matter. Baseboards were Discusting, a combo of what appeared to black mold and dirt. I kept my shoes on while inside the entire trip. Floor throughout the entire unit was warping so bad I'm not sure how the place is still standing. Many of the window shades were broken and non functioning, time to replace! The place could be amazing if someone cared, but it's clear that it's not getting the cleaning or renovations it's so badly needs. I don't understand how they can charge this much and not put money back into the business or at least provide a clean space for people. We have several rentals and I would be mortified to be providing this level of rental. One roll of toilet paper for a 4 nights stay. The previous poster might insist that people are being too harsh, however, I work very hard for my money and it makes me disgusted when I feel like I'm throwing it down the drain. We stayed in their HCH managed unit 18, The Pelican, a three story walk-up, three bedrooms, 2 bed with a bay and ocean view over the bayfront rentals across the street. It was a very bad experience. We sought the unit as shown in their website picture as a clear bay and ocean view. What we got was a unit that had filthy windows in ALL rooms and worst of all the two large picture double pane windows had broken seals with fogged windows. It was a HUGE and even costly disappointment to rent a unit that was NOT as represented. Further it was dirty and virtually none of the photos show the actual furnishings. You will need to view the pictures I posted to get a good idea. This manager, Teresa, stated she knew of these deficiencies but simply acted as a manager and not one to really get involved, like telling the owner that the unit needs repairs and deep cleaning. The kitchen window had no screen and the front slider screen was very worn. Teresa offered a unit next door to move to, but it too had problem with three sliders, two with no screen and one with a torn screen; just like our unit. I would advise not renting any of HCH managed units since they are very likely simply dirty, broken and NOT as represented in the website pictures. I don't think a large vacation managed company would continue to rent our unit without repairs. We feel simply robbed of a good rental experience through no fault of our own. Under circumstances this would be an excellent example of asking a management company for a partial refund. How about $500 for misrepresentation of the facts/ oh, and the smoke detectors in primary bedroom was hanging by the battery wire out of the case. Maid should have noticed and had corrected. We left Friday morning with a smoke detector beeping since they don't gave a schedule to replace batteries. Worst rental experience in our lifetime of good experiences. Steer clear of this rental company. read more

We stayed in #6 and it was absolutely disgusting. You can absolutely tell they haven't cleaned it in a while, there was hair on the pillows, blankets, towels etc. It was sandy and the floors were sticky and absolutely disgusting. The walls had cracks in them and it was tilting. We left early, this place is a complete waste of money do not come here. For at least $175 dollars a night for a 3 night stay minimum the place should be SPOTLESS. I'm so disappointed, I never ever get days off and never take vacations and got taken here by my family. I wish we went somewhere else. Everyone is nice but it's not worth feeling disgusting and having a crappy time. Oh and the entire house was tilting. Quite literally tilting, you could put a ball down and it would roll to the other side of the house. Do better yall, this is ridiculous. read more

Disregard the last 3 comments, These incompetent people are trying to bash an amazing place that takes your everyday stresses away and gives you a memorable ,relaxing, down to earth, get out of the city, amazing experience. From crabbing on the beach to campfires and s'mores next to a campfire, kayaking on the bay with the beautiful sunset, to flying kites. Whatever your desire is Teresa and Bruce are a class act period. They make you feel like family and will do anything to make your stay memorable and a blast. Including providing the little nick nacks or something you may have forgot. My family has been coming to happy camp for over 25 years and rented houses, cabins etc. Money no object, This entire operation is a 5 star rating from us based on the Caring, Considerate and so helpful Management that truly wants you to enjoy the beautiful Oregon coast for what it's meant to be. The cottages were falling apart, very dirty and overpriced. Lamps are broken and never repaired. There were spider webs in the cottage and the floors did not appear to have been swept or mopped. They had pipes for banisters and the windows were so dirty, one could not enjoy looking out. The only enjoyable thing was the beach which is about a half block away. read more

This review has nothing to do with COVID. We arrive and the disappointment begins. Both beds had dirty comforters. The refrigerator was very dirty. One of the wall heaters was broken. Most of all the house smelled moldy and was dirty. From the picture it looked descent, but what a joke. This little cottage (#3) should be burnt down. read more

Loved our rental house at Happy Camp Hideaway! We rented house number 20 and it had beautiful ocean views, was clean and neat as a pin, and had everything you would need for a fantastic weekend crabbing, fishing, or just spending time on the beach which is practically on your doorstep. We had a great experience. The cottage we rented was really cute, had an ocean view and was clean. There was a nice wood fireplace, lots of dishes, silverware, etc. it has an old house feeling, like a 1950s house. The beach was great. It's windy and cold. We walked on the beach towards Oceanside for about 1.5 miles. There's a huge cliff by the beach at Oceanside and it blocks the wind and weather is much warmer. read more

I don't really want to tell you how much my family loves this place. By writing this review it could mean more people invade *my* beach so please, for my sake, read this and ignore it. To call this a "resort" is laughable because it's really not. What it is is a collection of rental properties on a flat, calm expanse of beach that's only 90 minutes from Portland. They have a variety of places to fit every price range, from $100/nt oceanfront cabins to $300+/nt homes that are equipped with all kinds of luxuries (elevator, anyone?) Some of the homes are over 100 years old and have been renovated and updated. Some of the homes are a little more rustic so be sure you review the photos on the website to know what you're getting yourself in to. (Did you notice I didn't provide the URL? Ha! Stay away!) There aren't any resort amenities beyond public restrooms so don't expect to come here and get your nails done. You come here to walk on the beach, tidepool, go fishing, crabbing or clamming, eat, nap and sleep. And stare at the pelicans, seals and whatever else shows up. If you want more than that, go somewhere else. Please, just go somewhere else. There are very few restaurants (and none within walking distance) in the area so be prepared to either drive or do your own cooking. See? Another reason for you not to come here. We've stayed here dozens of times over the past 5 years and keep going back. In fact, another excursion is planned for this weekend. Off we go to our happy place. read more

We rented one huge house, and 4 beach "cabins". I heard the owner was out of town, so maybe that's why we had such an awful experience. The rooms were so dirty. I didn't even want to sleep in my bed. The comforter was so stained that some of the spots were crusty. I asked the person on duty for a new one or to wash mine, and he said yeah (very rudely), and then never did it. I asked about 3 hours later, and a different lady said its in the wash. It was still sitting on my bedroom floor. So I took it over to the office, and someone washed it and brought it back to my room at 9:03pm. I was already asleep. The bathroom was so dirty that I felt dirty again after my shower. I checked the other big modern houses down the road and they were only 40$ more a night for some. Do yourself a favor and don't rent a cabin. The beach here is fantastic. I will be back to stay in a house next time. read more

This place is the hidden gem of the Oregon Coast. Nestled in a small sea-side "village", it has all the charm of a small tourist-free atmosphere while providing a stunning ocean view! I have been staying at Happy Camp since I was a baby! It used to be an RV Park with a small cottage on the property. My family would do reunions there. When I found out the park was bought out, I was disappointed until I stayed there again a couple of years ago in one of the houses. I've stayed in a large house with some family, and then went back with my fiancee to stay in one of the 1-bedroom cottages. I was thoroughly impressed. With the ocean in your front yard, it is hard not to fall in love with this place. The owners are extremely friendly and they strive to make your stay comfortable and affordable. The off-season is the best to go, when you can have the beach (and the resident-cat) all to yourself. I have stayed in two cottages, and a larger house. All three were marvelous! The cottages are cozy and equipped with full kitchens! Some have fireplaces and there is a giant stack of firewood for you to use up while you're there! The larger house was absolutely beautiful and each room felt like it could be home. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic getaway at the coast, I highly recommend Happy Camp! read more

Unfortunately, we never got the opportunity to stay at Happy Camp Hideaway so I can't speak on that experience. However, we did have a reservation for more than 8 months for 3 families (our COVID pod) to enjoy some time on the OR coast for the 4th of July and tour the surrounding area. Our reservation was booked for 8th months when we went to pay the last third of our rental, that's when we found out that there was something wrong with our reservation. We're not exactly sure how it happened because the owners never told us but the house, we reserved was double booked with the house owners because our reservation was never entered into their booking system, yet they had records of making 2 payments. The property manager just told us that she "was working on it" but never told us what "it" was. We attempted for couple of weeks trying to find out what was going on just to be ignored and not have our phone call or emails returned for days, when we were finally able to get through to someone we were treated with disrespect, the property manager was clearly stressed, but took it out on us as if it was our fault that someone there didn't do their job correctly. Because of the holiday weekend there was nothing else available and apparently according to their policy the cabin owners get priority to the cabins over paying customers. The attempt to make amends on the error was to refund our payments and comp us a single night with our next stay. After the interaction with the property manager and the way we were treated I highly doubt my family will take them up on that offer. So, what was going to be a 250-mile drive from the Seattle area turned into a scramble to come up with a back-up plan for the 12 of us because we told our kids 8 months ago that we were going to do something special for the 4th and celebrate surviving a COVID school year. My advice to you, if you choose to make a reservation with Happy Camp Hideaway, is to get some kind of proof that your reservation has been booked correctly because a confirmation email saying you're booked isn't enough proof and making payments towards your reservation isn't enough either. You could try getting a notarized receipt, but that too might not work. read more

We've come here for years, and I agree with KateB, please stay away from this wonderful beach and this lovely resort, we'd like to keep it to ourselves. The owners are exceedingly helpful and friendly. They manage very modern homes, some with elevators. They also have more rustic cabins, quite affordable, yes a little dated, but you choose these because you don't want the fancy modern. A great place for kids, families.
