We ordered many things, including blueberry tartlets, strawberry, rhubarb pie, Whoopie pies, seven layer bars, cupcakes, muffins, and oatmeal cream pies! All which were delicious. I'm not much of a cake fan and I tried the blueberry lemon cake it It was very moist and delicious. I think the blueberry tartlets were my favorite out of all the items mentioned. Extremely overpriced! Never much in the cases to pick from. And why doesn't it ever smell like a bakery? Every bakery I have ever went to has a bakery smell and it's wonderful. It's like nothing is even baked in here. I wish this town had a real bakery with variety! read more

Somehow our pick up date for our order was incorrect. Therefore, when we went to pick up the cake it was frozen. They provided directions on how to defrost it, but I think we did it incorrectly, because the cake was extremely dried out. For the cost of the cake, this was extremely disappointing. The buttercream frosting was delicious and smooth, but the dryness really ruined the whole experience. The shop is very cute. I love the color palette they used. read more

Pretty ordinary eats at standard prices. Easy to find & lots of on-street parking on a weekday morning. Cuppa joe was middle of the road. Not strong in either the flavor or jack-me-up categories. Let's just say that as a cup of coffee it sufficed and not much more. The coffee cake muffin was decently moist with almondine & cinnamon flavors being pretty much the only two tastes coming into play. The texture was loose & crumbly enough to have me chasing broken pieces of the muffin across the table to round them up. Crumb topping was standard fare. Young lady at the counter was friendly & helpful. Premises were a balanced mix of bright palette colors playing smoothly with the extremely high stamped tin retro ceiling, which made the sparsely accessorized space feel way spacious. Premises were also VERY clean. Demerit for unupholstered metal chairs with flat, uncontoured seats. I guess that's one way to keep your customers from dawdling at the table. Bathroom was not only clean, but also tastefully decorated to match the rest of the decor. read more

The prices are so darn steep for a sub par product. (Says a Woman who will gladly pay $4.95+tax on a single GOOD cupcake). We didn't get what we expected- some "okay" picked over baked goods and an okay atmosphere. Unfortunately the products sell out far too soon (before 12 o'clock, noon!) and are not any better than the average person can conjure up at home. Such a limited selection. I suspect they sell out due to lack of inventory, not demand. I wanted this place to be so much more. We hoped for- and we need a solid bakery in northern MN! Ordering is confusing and awkward. Menus are condescending per items. Seating is almost obsolete- singles sitting at 4 seaters and what not. We had to interrupt a party of two to ask for a stool to borrow. Eeeeee awkward!!! I'm seriously wondering if the Pillsbury dough boy is back there against his will. read more

We were on vacation and looking for donuts. Unfortunately, this bakery doesn't open until 9AM. We arrived early and waited for it to open which ended up being a waste of time. Walking in we didn't see very many items on display. When we asked if they had any donuts she said they were in the oven and wouldn't be done for another 30 minutes. How do you open at 9AM and not have items ready?? Needless to say, we walked out empty handed. I'm all about supporting local small businesses, but this place needs to get it together. read more

My husband and I ordered a small simple cake for our wedding day, it was just way we were looking for and was delicious! We enjoyed working with the staff who were friendly and had great communication!! Although I felt they were a little pricey, $170 for an 8" round cake, with no floral or decor added, but we had our wedding up north were there were not many other options to go with. read more

Yes! So happy to have a bakery in downtown Brainerd! The space is welcoming, clean, and with plenty of tables and chairs. We tried the Pumpkin Whoopie Pies which are soft pumpkin cookies with cream cheese frosting in the middle, delicious! We also tried their blueberry tart (think teenie tiny pie in teenie tiny pie pan, cute and yummy!) They had amazing looking apple cranberry pies too with crumble on top. A little disappointed with the lack of baked goods. No birthday cakes available for walk in which was a bit of a surprise if you are a bakery typically you would have some basic cakes! I ended up buying some teeny tiny pies and they were okay but not worth the price. The gentleman working the register was nice enough but didn't seem to know much or how to work it which resulted in a long checkout process and having to create two transactions as he forgot some stuff. read more

My sister recently walked in and asked if they could provide 20 dozen cookies at the last minute. Without hesitation Ms. Marie stepped up and came through. The cookies are amazing ! Each one better than the last. The Minnesota shaped sugar cookies were the hit of the gathering. I personally thought the cinnamon cider doughnuts were the best. I live in Mesa, Az and wanted to do something nice for my best friend, who lives in Pillager, so I called the Knotty Pine Bakery and talked with Brandon, who was so nice and helpful, I asked if they could deliver some item to pillager, he said he would have to ask his manager, Brandon took my name and number down and a couple hours later they called back and said Yes they could but there would be a 15.00 delivery charge, I said great. I guess what I'm trying to get at is The Knotty Pine Bakery went about and beyond to help me and qere very nice and easy to work with. I know if I'm ever close to them I will be stopping by. I am not one to leave a bad review, and even more so, considering that there are no other reviews here. I feel terrible, but honestly.... it's a very cute place. I was really looking forward to them opening and I was hoping for really great things. That said, I've been there twice. The first thing I noticed was the limited options, granted, they were just opening and were pretty busy. I waited patiently in a long line, but when I got to the counter, I noticed was that it was very overpriced. $2.50 for a cookie sounds ok, but they were not bakery sized. They were, in fact, quite small (so was everything else). I bought a few of the apple cider donuts to share and they were just ok. The second time, I brought my son, and we tried a cinnamon roll and a cranberry orange muffin. Both were very dry, although we could see that the rolls were coming fresh off of the pan. The cranberries in the muffin weren't sweetened at all, and were so bitter that I had to pick them out. The coffee is like $3 a cup! And I know it's Stonehouse, and we all love them, but let's be honest... No matter how much we love supporting local businesses, no one is going to pay that every day (personally, I wouldn't pay it at all. I'd rather make an entire French press at home for a fraction of the price), when there's another great coffee shop 3 blocks away, with great coffee, better prices and an established customer base. Frankly, I didn't try the pie. It's a shame really, I know that's what she's known for, but I want to say it was like $4.50 for a sliver! And for that price, I could practically buy a whole pie at Super One, or make one myself for that matter. I mean that must be one heck of a slice of pie! I'm kinda sorry I missed it, but not really. They had packages of mini sticky buns, but at a price of $28.50 for a box of 8!!?? I am not exaggerating, I had to keep staring because I couldn't believe it! I hope it was a typo (I mean it was handwritten in black sharpie), but I've never experienced that level of sticker shock in my life. I think my eyeballs almost popped right out. On a positive note, I did splurge on a $4 loaf of wheat bread and it was phenomenal! I absolutely loved it, and it lasted a while without ever getting moldy or weird. I used the last bit up on french toast, and my kids said it was the best french toast they'd ever had. I have to give credit to the awesome bread. The owner's father is also very friendly, and made the visits a bit more pleasant. At this point, I have no interest in subjecting myself to a coronary for a third time. However, they say that the third time's a charm... so we'll see. If I start hearing positive things, (which to this point I have not) I would be glad to try again. And, if I have a positive experience, I'll be happy to revise my review. read more
