A last minute decision to visit Knoop and I'm so happy we did! It was a little confusing where to go given it's inside Canopy but you just follow the hall to the elevators to the 8th floor. The host promptly greeted us and while we did not have a reservation, there were a couple seats at the bar that were available for us to sit! The bar wasn't too crowded and well spaced, also not super loud which was really nice to be able to have a conversation. I had the bartender pull together her favorite drink which was filled with vodka, pineapple, lemon and ginger, and absolutely delightful! I don't know the name but I would definitely enjoy drinking it again. Next time I'll make sure to make a reservation for the balcony and dinner. read more

It is so fancy and amazing, they beautiful interior designs with an amqzing view on the top floor of the building that covers a big scenery of GR. The staff were super professional and kind ! Seated right in the heart of downtown GR, 8 floors up in a swanky hotel, lies Knoop. This spot is ALL about location and is the perfect destination for a beautiful date night, girls night, or pregame cocktail. Blonde wood and blue accents cement this as a setting unlike anything else in town, and I get excited about that! Lets talk food and drink first... my first cocktail was the 'Off Site' (comprised of gin and frose). They ran out of "pretty" glasses lol but it was pretty good. I'm thinking most of their cocktails would be better priced at $12 vs $14. Well drinks were $5 a pop though, and they have quite a stellar selection of mocktails if you're not a drinker! The pretzel flight was decent, they serve the pretzels with their hummus and burrata apps as well! Our server was friendly and stopped by frequently, but had a few minor glitches (taking away my 1/3 filled drink, dropping a set of silverware and forgetting to replace it, and handing us all of our items rather than attempting to get them onto the tables). Be prepared for very small cocktail-type tables if you're aiming for dinner here! Overall, I'd return for the atmosphere. It's definitely worth a visit! read more

I went here with a friend for drinks and snacks to share on a Saturday night. We were able to be seated without a reservation around 8pm. The space is so cool! It's very welcoming and hip. A great place to hang out with friends. We shared the smoked salmon, chefs plate, and pretzel flight. All were delicious! The smoked salmon was really flavorful and they piled up the salmon. The chefs plate was awesome, I love cheese boards and this had a great variety. The pretzel flight was super fun. The Buffalo dip was my favorite. The seasonings on the pretzels are pretty heavy and sometimes conflicted with the sauces but still great. I had a pirate Jenny for my cocktail and it was delicious! Like a spicy margarita. The most original and classy new bar around downtown GR. Thoroughly impressed with the overall aesthetic and ambiance of this spot. Although we didn't eat our meal here, I'm certainly coming back to do so. Knoop (a dutch phrase for the knot in a soft pretzel) is as West Michigan as it gets. Such a classy nod to traditional Dutch culture, in a way that felt seamless. The ambiance truly does not get better than this. From the Hotel lobby, to the bathrooms, to the restaurant, to the patio, everything was lovely and so unique. The drinks look so fun- though tonight I stuck with classic vodka/soda and wine. The soft pretzels are to die for- what a perfect late night snack. They are a bit more pastry-like than a typical, dense, American pretzel, but the flavor and lightness was divine. I plan to make Knoop one of my regular stops for an after dinner drink or girls night out. I can't wait to try more of the food and drink options here. One quick tip when visiting the washroom- there is an orange man at the entrance to the hall. This seemed to imply the men's room, so, as a women I was confused. Incredibly beautiful hotel and restaurant. Fortunate enough to be a block's walk away to enjoy this place. I'd like to compliment the bartender who sat us first then the server who allowed us to join another part of 6 seamlessly. My gal had the fish and chips and it was some of the best F&C I've seen domestic or abroad. I ordered the lobster quesadilla as a test. They passed. The drinks were great as was the ambiance. Really nice patio rooftop lounge. There's an uncovered and covered portion of the patio and a bar (covered). Unfortunately, the view isn't pointed at downtown exactly but it's shaded and pretty nice and the chairs are very comfortable. On a weeknight at happy hour /dinner time this placed was packed with what was a mix of what looked like tourists and hotel guests and you will definitely want to make a reservation. We ordered the charcuterie board. There are a nice mix of shareable plates. I highly recommend checking out the craft cocktail menu, which are some of the best I have had in Grand Rapids. read more

We had a wonderful first experience here for our anniversary. Our reservation got a little mixed up but the host quickly sorted it out. We happily waited at the bar and had a drink. They did not disappoint and gave us a perfect spot with the best view. We tried many things on the menu and requested they pace bringing it out. We started with the Wurst Board, then Mussels & Frittes (yum), Prawns Sumari, Lobster Quesadilla (wow so yum!) and Rooftop Chicken. Everything was delicious! Service was top notch! Our waiter and hosts were all very attentive and helpful. Our waiter provided great wine recommendations and my glass was always full too. It was a lovely evening thanks to Knoop. Excellent experience as a first-time diner tonight! We made reservations (which were about 2 weeks out) & found that using the Studio Park ramp was smart as parking was only $5 bs $12 (helpful tip - you pay for parking AT THE RESTAURANT to get the discount!). Located on the 8th floor of the Canopy Hotel (super cute boutique hotel), Knoop boasts both an outdoor open-air patio (complete with gas fire pit) & indoor seating. Light wood, concrete & glass are the main decor in this modern beer garden. Noise level is pretty high but that didn't deter from our enjoyment of the setting or the menu! We thoroughly enjoyed the Chef's Plate (charcuterie board), Stamppot (best smoked sausage!) & the Spring Shrimp. All of the flavors were spot-on, beautifully melded & perfectly seasoned. As I'm a huge fan of sparkling wine & champagne, the Pitfall cocktail was right up my alley with Sauvignon Blanc, champagne, peach & vanilla mixed for a tart lemony flavor. This restaurant was so amazing and we can't wait to go back! Will just try to save room for dessert! read more

We went to Knoop last night as our first date night since March of 2020. Atmosphere: loved it! Very hip and beautiful. Loved all of the little nooks to sit and take in the Beautiful views of the city. There is some outdoor seating on a balcony that was open but it was pretty chilly so that didn't look very comfortable but on a nice warm summer day I bet it's amazing. This is the only thing that made my review go from five stars to four stars. The tables are way too small we didn't have enough room for two people to have a drink and three shared plates to eat from. It was kind of like trying to share a dinner off of a TV tray or something similar. There was no place to put my silverware and they kept falling on the floor and I had to get new ones. I did mention that to the waitress that the only thing that I would recommend is that they get bigger tables and they said that they hear that a lot but once they got tables in there's no way to change them out. Seems like a bit of a cop out to me but whatever. Food: The food was pretty good. I would definitely go back for the food the deli tray was gorgeous and very tasteful with variety. My husband got the roast beef sliders the only thing I would recommend is that they add more au jus dipping sauce. I got the shrimp and small salad along with the bacon jalapeño mac & cheese. Both of those were decent not amazing but I would order them both again. Our cocktails were good I can't remember exactly what we got but no complaints there. I love that this restaurant is high above the city with amazing views. I love that you can also make reservations which seems to be a rarity these days. I know the food menu is limited right now, but still lots of options! I tried the brussel sprouts, pretzel, and the lobster quesadilla. All delicious! I've tried most things on the menu here and my favorite is the lobster quesadilla. Delicious. I think the prices are reasonable here considering the view and ambience of the place. Went here for drinks and food with a few friends during the week and was overall happy with the experience! The restaurant has a great view and nice outdoor seating (it was a little bit on the cold side so people weren't utilizing the balconies). The drinks were really good, I got a blueberry margarita, one friend got a strawberry margarita, and my other friend got a vodka soda. No complaints about the drinks! We also got the shareable pretzel plate which was super good. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because I think it's a little overpriced. Our margaritas were $14 each and while they were good, they were definitely not worth $14. The menu also didn't have any real vegetarian or gluten free options (besides one or two appetizers being meat-free) which is a big deal for me personally, as I am vegetarian and my brother has celiac disease. So I'm always on the lookout for restaurants that are really inclusive with their menu, highlight the different dietary options, etc. Overall I am glad I tried this restaurant, but I don't know that I'll be going back on a regular basis! read more

AWFUL - would not recommend- limited food menu My boyfriend had made a reservation at 5:15pm on a Saturday night. Once we arrived there was no one at the host stand and we had a small wait before the host came to the stand. We only waited a few minutes while they cleared a table for us. We were seated in their outdoor seating which had a nice view, nothing stunning but not awful. Once we were seated this is where it went downhill. My boyfriend and I waited for a good 30 minutes and during this time we weren't greeted at all by a server. At one point we saw a couple who had been seated after us get greeted and served waters. As the server was walking away, he made eye contact with me and gave a head nod to my boyfriend. At this point my boyfriend got up and talked to the host stand about how we had not had a sever come by at all. After this our server stopped by our table, and apologized for the wait. We placed our drink and food order at the same time because we were on a time crunch at this point. I ordered the Wild Berry Punch which was good but nothing special. Our main dish, the Wagyu sliders came before our appetizer, St. Louis Style Ribs, both which were average. The sliders lacked flavor and the same went for the ribs. The one thing I will give Knoop is the atmosphere and ambiance was very nice. I enjoyed the vibe but for it to be called a rooftop bar is a stretch. Their drink menu did look extensive so if you're into grabbing drinks and a cheese board this is totally up your alley. If you're looking for more sit down, definitely wouldn't recommend. read more

My wife and I came here for a date night and couldn't have been happier. You don't need reservations, but we had them and I was glad of it. The food and service were excellent. I had the French dip sliders and they were simply amazing; very savory and satisfying, but not overly heavy. It was an excellent dish for summer. My wife, a vegetarian, had the peas and carrots and thoroughly enjoyed it. The beer selection was on point and the atmosphere, with the view of downtown from the roof, was hard to beat in Grand Rapids. We will definitely be back! read more

After 30 minutes we questioned the server about the delay and she replied, "it depends on what you ordered". Water and beer should not take than long. One word: underwhelming. Decided to give this place the benefit of the doubt and had a reservation tonight & got seated. Short staffed (only 2 servers), no biggie. It was VERY underwhelming. Yes, short staffed, but took a good amount of time before the server came back. Drinks were served out of a plastic cup. Ludicrous that a $16 drink at a nice rooftop bar would be in a plastic cup. Food was alright, but nothing to rant or rave about. Atmosphere was mediocre at best; at least they played decent music. Not sure what quite was going on tonight, but definitely disappointed my expectations and turned me away from going here for a long time. They'd probably have to incentivize me to go here. I have been to this place a few times. The other day I went there with a friend right when they opened. We tried the glass door and it was locked, the hostess sitting at the bar at the end of the corridor could see us, took her time getting to the door to unlock it. She asked if we had a reservation, no smile on her face. She finally said we could sit "over there" and pointed. The place was empty, not sure why she couldn't walk us eight steps over there. Then we waited quite a while for a waitress. She finally showed up, and her attitude was not good, she acted as is she didn't know what she was doing and we were a burden. I ordered a Miller Lite, my friend ordered a glass of wine, and we waited again. Finally she came back and told me the Miller Lite "wasn't ready" yet, would a regular Miller be okay? I said fine. When she finally got back with our drinks, I gave her a twenty dollar bill and told her I wanted to pay(I was afraid when I wasn't ready she would have vanished). She disappeared for some time, finally came back and said "the drawer wans't ready, if you want your 5 dollars change, you will have to wait a while", almost as if she was trying to prompt me to tell her to "keep it". By that time I was really annoyed and told her I would wait. Then she vanished again. We finally left without my change, couldn't wait to leave. So rude! This place is has a really cool look and nice views, and I know it's hard to find good people, I just wanted them to know they need to get someone that gives a rip to oversee the place when it opens at 4pm, cause we were treated really poorly. read more

Great location, great ambiance and vibe. The food was very cold... taste was not great and the selection and menu is very limited and we struggled to find anything that seemed good. The breaded walleye was a cold, overcooked, deep fried mess. It was awful. The table wasn't a table but a small, low coffee table with soft seating that forces you away from the small low table and conversation into an awkward posture. It was not comfortable at all... and a horrible way to eat a meal. Maybe it would be ok if we had drinks only and a cheese plate. That is about all this table could support. The service was horrifying. Like awful. This with full recognition and context that post covid, we need to expect service levels to be far less. I get that. This wasn't due to limited staffing or covid... it was just poor service. The engagement by the host when you enter... our server would socially chat with people at the bar for 15 minutes. We arrived at seven and weren't able to leave until they nearly closed at ten. Not our choice... but due to insanely poor service. We were waiting so long for our check that I walked up to our server and politely said, "I am so sorry to bother you because I know you are busy (she wasn't busy) but I need to leave, so would it be possible to get our check?" After THAT, she took nearly TWENTY more minutes to bring my check. I gave her my credit card immediately. She took it and didn't return. I waited TWENTY more minutes... got up and asked her for my card and the receipt. She apologizes and says she will bring it right out. We wait as we watch her walk to a bunch of tables and fill water. The total time from asking for our bill to paying and leaving our table took us nearly ONE HOUR... not by out choosing. Honestly, the worst service I have literally ever received in any restaurant in the entire city of Grand Rapids...ever. This is not a covid issue this is a "you hired bad employees" issue. The ONLY thing this place has going for it is the ambiance, which I liked. Every fiber in my being wants this place to succeed but wow... management needs to have a VERY hard look at the staff and the kitchen. Food sucks. Service sucks. I give places multiple tries to get it right... but this was SO bad I will likely never ever go there again, it was that painful. I would never recommend going here. Stay clear. read more
