Good atmosphere, but the rest is irritating. Unless you are a regular they know and are cool with, be prepared to hunt down a bartender in an empty bar for another drink. Also, heard the bartenders making fun of and calling a regular names. Not cool and a real turn off. Would have spent way more money had they paid attention to my empty glass. Once I heard their bullying of a loyal customer, I'm sold on finding a better neighborhood bar. read more

Nomad is the anti-Lala's. It's a storefront bar in a non-descript commercial district, but that's where similarities end. I went here with a friend to play darts last night. Nomad doesn't look very large from the outside, but the interior is spacious. At the center is a big bar with various top shelf liquors on display, as well as an intriguing selection of beers on tap. Service was quick and friendly. The place has a great atmosphere with interesting art on the wall and funky furniture. The patio is large with plenty of places to sit. Overall the bar is designed well with good flow, and it showed since there were a lot of people at the bar but the place never felt crowded. But the game room is small and can seem tight when two groups are playing darts or foosball in there. The place could use a new jukebox, though. Right now they have one of those obnoxious "Super Mega Music Machine" boxes with the touch screen. If nobody plays a song it chooses random tracks itself, and its selections can be jarring. In the course of a 20 minute dart game we heard Merle Haggard, Cyndi Lauper, AC/DC, Marvin Gaye, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Billy Idol in that order. Bartender, a round of continuity please! I would have never expected a bar like this to open off Cameron Road (of all places). Inconspicuously tucked away in strip mall next to a Conoco station, Nomad is like a Warehouse District bar without the pretentiousness. read more

Nomad is the quintessential neighborhood bar. I live in North-ish Austin and I feel like we do not have enough bars compared to our Southern counterparts. Came here on a Tuesday night for pint night, and my friends were eating amazing burgers from Grill Girls (who are there on Tues & Fri). The bar was perfect for just hanging with a group of friends and they offer a trivia night. I'm also pretty sure I saw a poster for a magic show at the bar? Magic show + alcohol = I love this place. So, keeping that in mind, I'll definitely be back for some magic that is nomad. read more

With Nomad being only 3 blocks from my house, I want to like it more, I really do. I want to love it. Unfortuantely, 3 out of the 5 times that I have been to Nomad I was not at all impressed with the service. The first couple of times, I felt like I stood at the bar far too long to get a drink, and it wasn't even that crowded. They weren't particularly rude, I just felt... unimportant. This last visit was really the one that prompted me to write this review. We took a couple of out-of-town friends there to show them "our neighborhood bar." This was the weekend before last and we went on a lazy Sunday afternoon to get some bloody mary's. It was extremely obvious that they had just finished serving a particularly stressful brunch. We sat at the bar, and on multiple occasions I heard the staff discussing the stressful brunch. The bartenders were EXTREMELY distracted. We sat with empty drinks while we watched them struggle with the trash, help the caterers leave, and clean up. Once again, I just felt unimportant. I understand that you had a stressful morning, but from my point of view, I've come in wanting to have a relaxing Sunday with a bloody mary with my friends, and I leave feeling as though your stressful morning has rubbed off on me. Just a suggestion, but maybe you could have a bartender come in right when the brunch ends? A fresh and happy face for the customers that come in post-brunch... I would have given 2 stars, but I'm giving an extra one because Nomad has my favorite gin, Henricks (which hardly anyone has). Because it's only 3 blocks from my house, I'm sure I'll be back, but I'd probably find myself there a lot more often if I felt just a little more warmth from the bartenders. read more

One word: Meh. I can't say I love this place nor can I say that it sucks. To me it doesn't stand out much. My first encounter was about 3 years ago. My friend told me that it was an awesome bar with strong, cheap drinks and a cool atmosphere. However, the only thing impressive was the somewhat strong and cheap drinks. I thought this was going to be the holy grail of dive bars, but it fell way short of it. The first turn off was the super loud music inside. I know, I know. It's a small place so it's kinda hard to have a band play at a low volume. In my defense, I expected this place to be bigger. Anyway, call me old, but I like going to bars for the conversations. There's nothing pleasant about losing my voice in order to have a conversation with someone a foot away from me. The patio wasn't anything impressive either. Again, it was small. The boards around the patio made me feel confined. And honestly, even without the boards there wouldn't be much to look at anyway. Before I end this, let me put a positive twist because this place does deserve some praise....again, the drinks are fairly strong. I was there about a month ago, so that stayed consistent from my last visit. The bartenders are super friendly and extremely helpful. The place is very clean for a dive bar. And if you want to steer away from the foot traffic of Rainy St. or 6th then this is the place to go. But definitely go outside if you expect to have a conversation and good luck at finding a seat on a busy night. read more

I joined yelp JUST to say nice things about Nomad. I love the Nomad and the Nomad loves it's customers. That's all you need to know really. The bartenders are nice and the drinks are yum. This is quite possibly my favorite neighborhood bar in Austin. I wish it were in MY neighborhood! Maybe I'll move. Well, probably not, but I will continue to frequent this establishment. When I don't want the hassle of parking downtown or getting gussied up for some wine bar, Nomad is the perfect choice. Striking a good balance, Nomad is clean and not "divey" but it's not pretentious either. enjoy their comfortably outdoor seating area as well as the good mixed drinks. Next time, which will be soon, I will pay attention to the wine and beer selection and update my review accordingly. read more

I love this place. A total melting pot of a neighborhood bar. They always play good music. Their selection and price point is average to the city. Honestly, It seems like an older hipster bar. The crowds are always a little older than the east side scene and the music matches the crowd. Very comfortable patio and even more comfy indoor digs. read more

I'm a commitment phobe. Make no mistakes about it. Forget the fact that I'm in a long term relationship---every growing step makes me want to curl into a ball and question my existence. The fact that some blessed being out there decided to enter into a relationship with my hot-mess of a self, is sure fire proof that EVERYONE can find someone. And then, the fact that they'd wanted me to spend a holiday with them and their family---you know I must be doing something right with all the wrong I'm sure I liberally spread around. What the hell does that have to do with Nomad Bar? Well, my significant other, who invited me for Thanskgiving 2013 (GO BIG OR GO HOME...YEAAAAAAH!!)...has a tradition of going to Nomad's on Thanksgiving evening to...well, get shitfaced with his family and any friends that join. Thanksgiving night, the place had a crowd, football games blaring on all televisions and a jukebox that was NAILING IT! The bartenders were so stupidly friendly, engaging, hilarious and personable...that I thought to myself---wait...am I in Austin? Definitely a place I wouldn't have to pause and talk myself into going to if someone were to ask me to go. read more

This bar is right down the street from my house and I go there when I want to get sloppy-drunk without having to worry about driving all the way back home. The staff is nice and the owner is cool. Most-importantly they know how to pour a damned drink! I still haven't managed to make it to Sunday brunch (I'm usually still passed out from the night before) but I hear it's amazing. read more

as a long-time resident of windsor park/university hills, i really want to like nomad. but i don't. we desperately need some good bars in this area (carousel is just not enough anymore) but nomad doesn't deliver. why not? well, it's the combo of bar killing factors....no ambiance, weak staff and lame patronage. there's a decent juke box at nomad, but it's turned up so loud as to prohibit conversation...not that there is much of that to be had there. the bar staff are neither friendly nor expedient and the patrons are painfully generic austin hipster types. one time i came in the door and there was a group of tats with "operation" or some other board game out on the table in front of them. notice that i did not say they were playing operation, i think mostly they were just making sure people saw them with the game board at the table. playing board games at the bar? that's so hip it makes my neck tattoo jealous!!! there's also a "game room" with a foosball table and a dart board. unfortunately, it's really only big enough for about 4 people...so get in there early or queue up, i guess. on the plus side, they have a few local beers on tap - but then, who doesn't in this town? read more

One of the best bars in Austin. Service, happy hour, the Grill Girls. All around awesome. During SXSW they had a terrible band playing on the patio. Truly awful. On an especially awful song, one of the bartenders came from behind the bar and just unplugged all of the amps. What a badass. read more

Any bar that puts up with a my friends and I playing an obnoxiously loud round of Scrabble Slam is alright with me. Their bartenders for the most part are friendly and quick and the crowd that comes in and out is eclectic. They have great empanadas (I recommend the proscuitto, blue cheese and asparagus), but sadly their kitchen closes at 9 p.m. Their drink prices are run of the mill, but pours tend to be good. It is a place that pulls off a rambunctious group, but still has nooks for couples trying to just dig each other. read more

Came here with my gal pal for a couple of cocktails-they have a great happy hour and daily specials. The staff are great, and even the owner is there on occasion to welcome you to his bar and and assist in any way he can. They have many different beers to choose from-many local, and a full liquor bar as well. This place is a great neighborhood bar-and I feel very comfortable coming here, even as a single lady. I live in the neighborhood, but I am still picky. They have an awesome liquor sellection I like the Tequilla selection, and love Don Julio Anejo personally. It's a neigborhood dive but it is very comfortable and nice outdoor seating. It is always pretty busy, i'll pop in on a Tuesday and it will have a full crowd. Not too crowded but more like a nice happening vibe. I have been here probably 10 times and it has always been like that. It has a decent Sunday Brunch, and you can add bottomless mimosas for $10 more I think? If you are looking for that hidden gem neighborhood dive bar, it's great! I have also walked in with my stroller and little one to pop in for a cocktail and they were very kid friendly. read more

Great bar, and friendly staff. If you're lucky enough to come out for a night that hosts Karaoke Apocalypse then you're in for a real treat. The fun level was off the meter, and the bar staff hustled out the drinks to everyone in this packed bar in record time. I just saw previous reviews about this bar being "overtly racist." That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. The staff at Nomad are welcoming to all, they just hate douchebag, entitled "Yelpers" who think they can get mouthy after they've been drinking alcohol. The Nomad serves all races, and genders equally. If you identify as a "Yelper," well than head on over to East 6th St and get yourself a nice tall glass of entitlement in your natural hipster habitat. read more

I'm adding one star because on my second visit there, I was actually able to drink- yay! I noticed quite a few dogs out back on the patio and even a few inside, and nobody seemed to care. Kudos for animal friendliness. Then, on the way to the little girls' room, I saw the awesomely fun breathalyzer machine. I'm a sucker for novelty. I didn't get to try it, but while I was in the bathroom, I heard a guy boasting about his .21 result. Plus, there was a friendly gentleman at the bar who insisted on buying my friend and me a round. Cool chill spot. I popped in for a beer and was pleasantly suprised by this bar amongst a string of a few other spots (tattoo shop, cafe, etc) in a strip mall. Very chill setting with outdoor patio. Patio had a tv and a great world map or globe art piece illuminated on the wall. The bartender was friendly. Interior was casual and divey but clean and inviting. With kind of a Brooklyn vibe to the place, I'd recommend this spot for a drink alone or with friends. read more

I love Nomad Bar. 4 years ago when I lived in the neighborhood I was in this place at least 3 nights a week. The bartenders are friendly and so are the patrons usually. I made a few friends in that place. It was my "Cheers". It's nice to find a dive bar that doesn't smell like barf and cigarettes. read more

For those of us that live in the Upper East Side or 78723 for the uninitiated, this place is perfect. Nomad is situated just off Cameron on Corona with tons of parking and full bar with plenty of wine options. Plus the decor is cool and trendy without being pretentious. Its Sunday brunch is pretty rad and being able to ride my bike or walk there makes this officially my neighborhood bar. I love you guys and your ability to get me sufficiently buzzed. read more

O.K. so I have only been here a handful of times but I can easily see myself becoming a regular. They have great drink specials, (like $1.00 Tecate on Mondays), they got food (DO NOT miss the Sun. Brunch $13.00 Buffet and $10.00 bottomless mimosas), they got chalk board walled bathrooms (Joni loves Chachi), great drink selections and games for all your friends (Thursday Trivia for the pop cultured).
