I've been coming to Knockout fitness in Surprise for 4 months. Here is what I think. I joined mostly for the kickboxing and boxing classes. The class schedule is good. They have many classes and many times during the week. The instructors are skilled and qualified. I wish they would give some explanation at the beginning of each class on proper form so people don't hurt their joints. Be warned, in my opinion the music is TOO loud during the class. This makes it difficult to here the instructor. Several times my ears were ringing after class. It is also hard to concentrate for those around not in the class. The weight area is small and needs a little more expansion. It's very basic and a little small so you have to wait if there is more that 4 people using the weights. There is a jujutsu area that I have not experienced yet. But I have observed that the instructors are good. The kids classes are also great. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful. I notice there is some turn around over the couple of months I've been here. But that is expected in this industry. They also have other locations the instructors seem to rotate through. Instructors I prefer are CJ and Ty (pronounced Tee) You can borrow boxing gloves if you need some. They offer personal training that is worth the price. The membership is pricey, but honestly if you utilize the group kickboxing/boxing/jujutsu classes, you get your monies worth. Don't be afraid of trying them. Overall people are there to work out, are friendly. I would recommend this place for those who are actually going to work out. read more

Being new to Phoenix, I happened to come across Knockout Fitness while out and about riding my bike around. The manager there was very welcoming and happy to show me around. The thing is, I'm really not much of a fighter, but that's okay. The trainers are damn good at what they do- and best of all, they really care. They want to see you succeed at whatever your personal goal may be. I highly recommend at a minimum trying out a class. Pretty sure they'll let you try one out for free. They are high energy and often pretty entertaining to boot. If it's not for you- no biggie! For me, it's just what I needed to break that cycle of begrudgingly working out once or twice a month. Knockout Fitness has been a wonderful place to exercise and the classes are motivational and not intimidating as a competitive MMA/Boxing place would be, as they cater to all, women, family, and children. I don't know what other people are complaining about contracts as they have none that you're locked into as they are month to month cancel anytime. My only complaint is the new manager at the Surprise location 'Julian' who being new and inexperienced could work on his phone skills, launched me into a legal argument with, which of course he promptly disconnected (which is standard operating procedure for most companies). After calling back and attempting to get corporate or legal dept., I was told no one over 'Julian' except the owner and can't give out that information after asking for attorney of record or POC for legal, anything, and hung up on again. At this point, I'm livid I can't find anyone else to talk to, I began thinking of small claims and subpoenas, BBB, Yelp, CC filing for tracking attorney on record, owner, similar class action suits, thermal nuclear war, I was just livid. The saving grace here is the owner David Muir within minutes courteously and professionally called me and amicably settled my dispute. This place is TERRIBLE and if you can avoid signing up for a shady "gym" that will steal your money and make excuses for taking your money, then this is the place for you. Travis will tell you to your face that you are signing up for a month to month plan and then put it in as a 24 month plan. Then when you ask to cancel (since you haven't been to their shady gym in 5 months) he'll tell you that he reviewed your accounts notes and it shows you signed up for the 24 month plan. It is the most shady unorganized place I have ever dealt with. The place is a joke and you are better off heading over to Mountainside Fitness or other gym. Beware. Knockout Fitness Surprise is so INCREDIBLE! Ive been going 5 times week. I've been to boxing gyms in Boston and two others in Arizona and I LOVE this gym! It's always clean and they put your wraps on for you if you need help! Daniel, the instructor is so great, he makes sure to help out the newcomers and he's wonderfully professional and very good at his job. His classes are intense but fun and he switches it up everyday. Over the years I had foolishly started 1 year contracts with different gyms and I always seemed to stop going about 1 month into it. Then my brother introduced me to Knockout Fitness. I took their free class and I was immediately hooked. One of the major problems with other gyms are, that while they have all the equipment, it's very boring and you get tired of it very soon. Either that or you can go in for months and do the workouts YOU think are good and not see much results, you don't have experts guiding you every step of the way unless you pay extra for personal trainers. At Knockout Fitness, while you can go and work out on equipment by yourself like a normal gym, most people go to the classes. You don't have to pay extra, they're included in your membership. These classes are taught by experts that tell you what you do wrong and guide you to do it right, and they're good for every athletic level; whether you have been a couch potato all your life, or you are a high level athlete. You know you're getting the right workout for the time spent, get ready for the workout of your life every time you go in. But the one thing that is more important than anything else I wrote above, is the FUN! It's the one thing that will keep you going back year after year. Your life will change without much of an effort on your part, whether you want to lose weight, bulk up, or just get better at self defense. My son goes to this gym for the kids jiu-jitsu class. He really loves it. This is a kid who has tried many extra curricular activities including karate, tennis, gymnastics, soccer, guitar, etc... Its a small gym so he likes making friends and looks forward to class. The class is M-Thur for an hour each and only costs around $40 a month. I think that is very competitive for similar classes for kids. And for the kids classes there are no contracts involved, just a 30 day cancellation notice required which is reasonable in my opinion. I personally did try out the adults kickboxing class but I didn't like it for myself. It is definitely hard work and I am sure it pays off. I didn't really like the tight space. I have a couple of girlfriends who go here regularly and they love it though. I also don't like contracts which they require for adult classes. I did notice all of the 1 star reviews that are hidden and "not recommended" here on yelp....that seemed a little strange....and suspicious....but I am writing my review from my experience only so there it is :) read more

I originally signed up my son for a year-long program. He was in the program for just a little while before I realized that it would be a great program for me, as well. Now, we both attend the Boxing workouts three times a week, and love it. It's not for the weak, or those who spend a lot on cute outfits. I like to mix up my workouts and I decided to transition from only weight lifting to boxing. I was looking for something more cardio based and man did I get more than I asked for. The instructors are wonderful and let you work at your own pace but still push and motivate you. After my first work out I was so sore in places I didn't even know I had! This gym was very clean and the environment a very upbeat but yet comfortable. The staff doesn't push you to buy stuff you don't need they were very honest and humble. My favorite instructors are T, Kim, Isaiah, Bobby, Travis, Federico, Dre, Trevor, Juan and CJ [when he was a instructor in the classes]. From what I have been told/hear is that since CJ left Knockout Fitness, the gym lost a huge amount of members. "Some great things about K.O.; : Members treat each other like family, push and encourage one another. :There are some friendly, caring and very outgoing staff, such as; Ollie, Jules, Joesph, Anthony, David, Thomasita, as well as a few others. ::These are a few of the things wrong with K.O.: : Some of the locations smell like feet, funk and awful, awful body odor. Have your locations heard of Lysol or Febreeze?!?!??? : New equipment is badly needed, carpets, paint, an all the worn out items should be replaced. : You still get charged after canceling your membership or P.T. You get the run around with the staff when you show them proof that your credit card/debit card is still being charged after canceling. : Some of the staff ; [ at a few of the locations] use their cell PHONES on the clock, to skype, YouTube, watch movies, Twitter, Facebook LIVE, SNAPCHAT, text, make personal calls, take pictures/videos of some of thy members. Employees should not seem annoyed that members are at K.O., ask a question, can't get a combination correct or workout down, walk in, let alone breathe. : The Personal trainers/Front STAFF should be switched up every week and sent to different locations. : It would be AWESOME, if thy instructors would switch up the workouts that they will instruct instead of doing the same workout routine day in and day out. It gets pretty damn OLD. : The music is way too loud at times. Some of us [that are older] can't hear the combination/instructions. : Some of us older folk [ mid 30's to late 70's] would like to hear some of our favorite tunes such as, Reggae-ton, White Snake, Heavy Metal, Lincoln Park, Richie Valens, Dance Hits, Salsa, 90's, 80's, 70's, Christian, Oldies, Hip Hop, 60's music-a instead of this GARBAGE that some of you young-in's call music! Switch it up!!! : Members can tell when a trainer does not want to instruct a member, does not like a member, give them the same time as another member that they favor. Actually "RON" I have not been a member for atleast a year.. I was a member awhile ago and had issues with Zeus.. because I changed my card number and somehow my card didn't go through... so after only 2 days of my payment being late.. he sent me to collections!!! Without notice or anything!!! Soooooo a few weeks ago.. I decided to come back to train jiu jitsu because the rest of my family trains there... then Dave started a ton of drama, cancelling the jiu jitsu program, bringing it back, cancelling again... so after he told us that there would no longer be a jiu jitsu team or promotions or competitions.. the entire jiu jitsu team got up and walked out... some members even cancelled right then and there.. after doug was terminated.. the entire jiu jitsu team cancelled their memberships!!! read more

The workout is good, the contract is not. I have been overcharged multiple times and they depend on the cancellation policy (the fine print) to keep your membership fees going after your membership is done. Then they charge you an additional $25 to "dispute" the charge. The team at the gym is a good group but the business policy is crap. It's not people first, it's money first and for this, I will never recommend them. Choosing a gym is something people should be able to do freely. I paid out my year long membership and then some even after I decided I didn't want to go about 3 months in. I was fine with that, I signed up for 12 months and it was my decision to stop. When I got the final charge although the fine print backs up the gym, the pure common sense and people matter approach would have gotten the gym a lot further for me promoting them. Do yourself a favor if you want to stop going, fill out the cancellation form WAY AHEAD OF TIME so you have no reason to call and dispute the great wizard behind the finances.... whom you NEVER talk to... Only the poor manager that has to be the face of sales and retention. read more

I would recommend ANY of the other Knockout Fitness Locations, minus this surprise location, solely because of the GM, Julian. I moved 19 miles away from any of the locations in June and because it wasn't at least 25 miles away, you can't cancel your membership. Who drives 19 miles to go to a gym!? But my main issue is how rude and unprofessional Julian is. When asked to speak to his manager or owner, he stated there is no one above him and that I am not allowed to speak with the owners. On top of that, now that I am eligible to cancel and live an hour away from this location, they are making me come in to sign a waiver to cancel. What kind of BS is that? I only signed up at this location and have never even worked out at this location and Julian has made it the worst experience ever. Moral of the story is there is a reason your location has a worse star rating than any of the other location. read more

Do your self a favor and DO NOT sign up at any Knockout Fitness Gyms...If you sign up they will put you on a long term contract and not allow out of your contract even if you have a medical reason! They will offer to suspend your contract for 6 months charging $10 a month then they will continue charging for the remainder of your contract...but an employee will tell you every thing was taken care of! This company is so desperate for money they will lose customers and take negative reviews instead of getting it right!
