Shady Gym - Scam Tactics & Unprofessional Staff
This place is nothing but a scam that preys on people through high-pressure sales tactics, lies, and straight-up harassment.
They recruited me in a Walmart parking lot, handing me a flyer and pushing me to come in for a "free class." I wasn't really interested, but they spammed my phone nonstop until I finally gave in.
When I got there, the "class" was just a grueling workout designed to exhaust people--that's their tactic. After that, we did some bag work, which was basic and unstructured. There was no real coaching, just workers pretending to be boxers. If you just want a workout and to throw combos, you could do the same thing at Planet Fitness for way cheaper.
The Scam Begins...
After the class, I had to wait over an hour for someone to talk to me because the guys running the place were too busy flirting with an in-shape woman they most likey flirted into signing up. Once everyone else was gone, they finally got to me--probably because they knew I'd call out their BS if other people were around.
They hit me with their ridiculous sales pitch, claiming I could sign up for just $10 now and defer my payment, plus they'd give me 20% off each month. They showed me some nonsense pricing chart that didn't even make sense, because they couldn't explain it properly--it was just a scam to pressure me into signing.
The Real Scam: Trying to Keep My Money
After I signed up, I called the same day to cancel because I knew I made a mistake. They ignored my calls, never got back to me, and still charged me anyway. When I went in person to confront them, they suddenly claimed they had a "30-day written cancellation policy" that they never told me about.
But here's the worst part--one of the guys was deliberately trying to provoke me.
He started calling me names, mocking me, and acting like he wanted to fight me--all just to piss me off and get me to react. He kept saying, "You're embarrassing yourself" and talking down to me like I was stupid. He was hoping I'd lose my temper so they could act like I was the problem. That's how they operate--by gaslighting and provoking people.
Final Verdict
This is NOT a real boxing gym. It's just a place for people looking for a social workout or to feel like they're boxing without actually learning the sport. The so-called "coaches" are just failed wannabe boxers with inflated egos who make their money tricking people into signing up.
If you're serious about boxing, stay far away from this place. If you want to get scammed, pressured, and harassed, then by all means, sign up. Otherwise, find a real gym. read more
