I called the Rockville location on 5-20-26 at 6:30p. 1/5 at best. Totally awkward experience. I'm comfortable asking those type of questions no issue at all there, it was like pulling teeth and nails. After me asking 2 follow up questions to the 1st initial question, I was then told that they are only able to answer yes or no, which is fine so I went with the flow... but it was told to me as if that was the first thing disclosed before my questions begun (in a passive very aggressive manner). Now that I was informed on how it works, I had to take a couple secs to engineer my questions to a "yes or no" format. I was rushed into completing the call. So my yes or no questions was; "Do you have [item]?" answer "no, we have something along the line of that" next question; "do you inhale it?" answer "what are you looking for??" I reply "[name of item]" answer "I said we don't have that but we have something along those lines" I reply "yes I know but I asked if you inhale it I want to make sure if that's what I'm looking for" I was going on to say anything "along the lines of" can mean a couple of things could be same affect but it can maybe be done in different manners like oral or direct physical contact...the conversation drops to a awkward silence... then they said they are unable to give specific details of items and I was told that what is online is not in store its a 3rd party website. Unfortunately, the Penthouse nightie that I bought (Medium/Large) did not fit my wife, who is a size 12 (which MOST M/L gowns would). So they were okay with me exchanging it for a Large/XL, sometime around September 14th, and EVEN THAT didn't fit her!! Remember, she is Size 12. Not a Size 14 that wants to be a Size 12. A true Size 12! So, on September 22nd, when I (again) went back, this time I brought my wife, so they could actually see her and her size 12 body. So.... here's what the woman at the counter said to me (get a load of this crap!): "Oh, you know these are Asian Sizes. Because they're made in China? Bullshit!!! . I should have pushed back, and gotten in her face, and said something sarcastic like, Ok, so I suppose my Nike shoes, also made in China, aren't a size 13??? What a Lame Excuse!!! She should have given me another item! But, instead, I was nice and just letter her "provide my wife and I with another item, and yes, it's my fault for letting them talk me into another nightie on this trip back with my wife. She said she'd give me a "good deal", but her good deal was what....20% off! I should have argued for more of a discount. Or, better yet just said to my wife, "Babe, we're outa here!". At this point the entire experience has just left a REALLY BAD TASTE in my mouth and I will NEVER NEVER EVER recommend Knock First to ANY if any friends. They never push and don't have any kind of judgmental feeling around them. The gentleman who came from the back was not too kind though. Their selection is very nice and have quite the BDSM collection as well! It is hard to find QUALITY BDSM gear and they delivered for sure. I've been to this store on more than one occasion with no incident. The lady that helped us on a previous visit was super helpful and didn't pressure us or make us feel uncomfortable. Prior to this visit I reviewed Yelp to check store hours and read a few reviews prior to going. I read about a creepy, rude man with white hair that likes to harass customers and make them feel unwelcomed while in the store. I ignored the posts and hoped we would run into the women we'd dealt with before. THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. When my boyfriend and I walked in, the front register was empty and we made an immediate left to the lubes, b/c I saw what I needed as soon as we walked in. While my back was to the register, I was reading the lube ingredients, and at that time my boyfriend mentioned that there was a man with white hair standing behind us, watching us as if we were planning to steal something. I told my boyfriend that I had read reviews about that guy and we should leave before he caused any trouble like I'd read in other reviews. When we went to the register my boyfriend said hello to the man and asked if there was a reason he was staring at us while we looked to purchase something personal. The man said, "what, I have eyes, I can't look?". My boyfriend replied saying, "no, but you don't have to stare at us". The man then said, "I have eyes I can look at whoever I want", and my boyfriend said, "it's very intrusive for you to stare at us while we're looking to buy something personal, and if we need help we'll ask for assistance". At that point the old man said, "I'll look as much as I want to look". He then put his hands over his eyes in a mocking tone and said, "what? do you want me to close my eyes?". At that point I told my boyfriend that we should make our purchase and leave. I wish I would have left w/o spending money but unfortunately I really wanted the product. Even though we intended to spend more money I was eager to make the purchase and leave before the man called the police on us b/c his actions/behavior demonstrated he didn't want us there. The man's behavior was EXTREMELY rude and unnecessary. This is the most disgusting example of customer service I've ever witnessed. Even though this is a great store with awesome products, we'll stick to ordering our goodies online. I recommend the same for other potential patrons, if you'd like to avoid an unnecessary man who obviously struggles with social interaction and customer service. Came here because my hubby and I were staying at a hotel near by for our 16th Wedding Anniversary and wanted to try something new. Found this place on Yelp. When we entered we were greeted immediately. We were asked if we needed help finding anything but it wasn't pushy, we stated that we were "just looking" even though we had something specific in mind. I'm so happy I found this place! Quality over quantity is the feel of this shop. My partner and I have been coming back to this store frequently ever since we found it. The prices of toys are the lowest I've seen compared to many other shops in the DMV area (eg we found a toy that was 25% cheaper than the one we bought elsewhere). The items are also nicely displayed in way that effectively catches your eye and allows you to turn them on. The organization of the store is thoughtful and clear. A small detail, but the store is also well lit, which gives the store a much more welcoming atmosphere. The staff is very knowledgeable, personable, and patient. The variety of items vary; I find outfits to be plentiful, but men's toys to have less selections. I made a Yelp account specifically to write a review for Knock First. The atmosphere of Knock First is everything I DON'T want in a sex shop as a woman. While my girlfriend and I were browsing the store, an older man (presumably the shop owner) kept following us around and prompting my girlfriend to touch the vibrators - neither of us felt comfortable around this man and the fact that other Yelp reviewers who are part of heterosexual couples describe him chastising them for being inappropriate after only touching the tester vibrators only makes this man's actions feel more inappropriate in hindsight. I felt the need to avert my eyes around the toys since he took such a creepily specific interest in us and I didn't want him analyzing my sex toy preference. We were aggressively surveilied. The women working at the store were nice and when I called to ask if there were any days where the man would not be there, I was told that he was there for all shifts but there was always a woman working at the same time. The selection was decent but even without the man hovering you, this is definitely a sex store that is more sleazy than classy. It'll do if you want toys now and don't want to go all the way to Baltimore or DC to get them (my girlfriend recommends Sugar in Hampden but I've never been). The owner's behavior isn't so creepy that it makes a trip unbearable but we won't be returning.
