When it comes to yarn in Richmond proper, this is definitely a place where you'll find a wide selection of prices, brands, colors, and textures. Considering that there are only two other yarn stores in the greater Richmond area, it's nice to know that there's something for everyone if you're in Richmond proper. You may also find a range of customer service. The first time I went in, I felt very welcomed by the staff members and they answered all of my questions. I was happy to make my purchase. This is what prompted me to return. The second time I went in, the staff member at the register was chatting with an exiting customer about the election. I don't mind a political disagreement or difference but I do mind vindictive racially charged whispers. If your hand is over your mouth as you gleefully lean into your inner mean girl, a part of you knows that what you said isn't entirely classy. Your candidate winning does not excuse bad manners or a lack of decorum. However, it's low form to wish the losing candidate ill, and to hope that they go back to the hole they crawled out of. Wow. It just goes to show that age is not associated with class. Folks are entitled to their opinions, but if you're a staff member hoping to make a sale, it's probably best to keep that under wraps or at least away from your workplace. Not classy, not demure, not mindful at all, and definitely not the kind of behavior that would make America great ... at any point. Note: I do not believe that this staff member reflects the entirety of the others. I do think that, had it not been the day after the election, this person may have been less likely to be less mindful of others in the store. That said, big moments in history do reveal our true character, and I hope this staff member takes the time to be more empathetic and aware of their surroundings the next time they are at their workplace. read more

I went to the Knitting Bee today located in Henrico. I always enjoy my trips to this store. They have a great inventory of yarns and accessories. Elizabeth, the owner, is there every day from 11-4 with her precious little puppy. She has been so helpful to me over the years , as have all the employees, as I struggle with interpreting a pattern or get stuck with a knitting project. Thank you to all the women who work there . I really enjoyed my visit to the Knitting B. They had a fabulous selection of yarns, local hand dyed and commercial. They had the largest selection of Noro yarn I have ever seen in one shop. I purchased a gorgeous DK weight yarn to make a sweater for my niece. I would definitely revisit this store should I be in Richmond again. read more

They are very helpful and willing to sit with you and work our problems and confusion with whatever project you are working on free of charge. I found them slightly standoffish at first and then friendlier. HOWEVER, they do not wear masks and when I visited the owner made some vapid and offensive statements about COVID and masks and people needing to accept when "god wants to take them." This was after a discussion about the deadly tornadoes yesterday. I left after that. She seems to be an anti masker and who know what else. Kind of a disturbing experience, honestly. So if that's your thing, this is the store for you. I had heard as much about them through the grapevine but wanted to give them a chance. I am disgusted to report my experience with this establishment. I walked in with my boyfriend, who is white while I am black, and the woman that greeted us refused to acknowledge my existence. She refused to look or talk to me throughout her entire speech regarding the sales and it was disgusting. I was so excited to come into the store due to my recent love of crochet and her blatant racism and intolerance ruined my experience. I will shop here again. Don't support a company that doesn't support yarn lovers of varying races. So disappointed. read more

I like the shop and the selection. The people that work there are helpful and friendly, but I was really disappointed that they had Rush Limbaugh playing on the radio. It seemed inappropriate in a retail environment and it made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. read more

I have been to the Knitting B several times in the last 12 month. I almost always have my little daughter with me and it was never a problem when she wandered around alone looking and touching yarn. Of course I made sure before her hands where clean. The store has a nice selection of different yarn types and weights and notions to go with it. I was always welcomed warmly and helped offered when needed. I took two different classes there as well. One on acid yarn dyeing , so fun to see all the different colors everyone created and another one on needle felting. Both instructors where lovely to work with and I immensely enjoyed both classes. Elisabeth, the owner often has her little puppy with her and has always been helpful and generous to me and lovely with my daughter. It is nice that they are open every day so I don't have to keep track of opening times as much. I happened to stand in front of locked doors in other stores due to them having odd days off. read more

As a former yarn shop owner, I have high expectations BUT I have vivid memories of what it is like to try and be all things to all customers! KnittingB is bright, airy and welcoming. Please consider that everyone has bad days. I thought the selection of yarns was extremely high quality and there a wide range of fibers, weights, styles. The inventory is not huge, but everything she has is a carefully culled choice from the thousands of choices. I did not see ANYTHING in there that I would not want to knit with, and trust me I turn my nose up at the majority of yarns out there. It is quite obvious that Elizabeth is there to share her love of yarn with the public. There are much better investments so she is not in it for the money. Why else would she rent a second space just so people could knit? I think Richmond is lucky to have the KnittingB. As far as being tech-challenged, would you prefer her to be more computer savvy and a neophyte knitter? Should she spend her precious time on facebook and twitter and Ravelry, or on keeping up with the yarn industry and helping customers? Do you really care that her receipts are hand-written? Here is a lady who has more than half a century of knitting knowledge that she is graciously offering to share with anyone who asks! As far as longer hours, perhaps when she finds more prospects that are dependable, intelligent, extroverted, trustworthy, flexible, pleasant, tech-savvy and are master knitters and crocheters, she will expand her hours to suit everyone. For every new yarn shop there are at least 5 or 6 closing right now. I encourage everyone to not expect any locally owned shop to be the shop you would have if you had unlimited funds, time and patience, and give her a chance to please you next time. read more

I am visiting here from New Jersey while my daughter is fencing in the Junior Olympics! What a fabulous store! A real gem! They were so helpful, positive, upbeat, passionate about knitting and so gracious! And the store has so much beautiful yarn, perfectly organized, with a big round table surrounded by laughing women enjoying each other and their knitting projects accompanied by the owner! This is a wonderful store! Please don't think that they aren't tech savy because they are! They do have a facebook account and post things there almost everyday. I LOVE this shop. They are so eager to help and are more than willing to work around the current hours they have. I have asked them to order yarn and they were very quick to help me with that! The prices are no different then online and I choose to support a local business that helps support our community....plus I love to ooo and awww over the yarn and actually feel it and see the colors before I buy it. They have quite a lovely classroom as well. This is so nice to actually have an inviting yarn store in the area. read more
