I was probably the only one in my family excited to come here at first but they begrudgingly followed me in. The person working there was wonderfully welcoming, and showed my daughter straight to the section with a giant stuffed bear and toys for her. Problem solved, now TWO of us were excited to be there! They have tons of yarn selection in a good price range, so there is something for everyone looking. I picked up some yarn that I plan to make into a scarf, as well as some adorable tape measures that were knitted animals. One for myself, one as a gift for a friend. I see other reviews mention they weren't wearing a mask, which is true, but I also visited after everyone has been vaccinated so... I guess I can't speak for before. read more

The selection of yarn was great, I'm not sure if I picked a bad day but there weren't many finished projects to purchase. Also the vibes I got when my wife and I came inside the store were as if we weren't welcomed. And even with the purchase I made I wasn't happy with how that interaction went as well. If I hand you my money then don't try to place the change on the counter for me to scrape off. read more

Have visited several times while in the OBX and am very impressed with the yarn selections and patterns. Many yarn stores seem to focus on knitting projects and forget about those of us who crochet but this shop has a good selection of crochet patterns. I stopped here on our recent vacation to Kitty Hawk and was pleasantly surprised and what a great stop it was. I actually stopped to buy a gift for my mother in law who is an avid knitter. They gal working their helped guide me to buy the perfect souvenir for her for our trip. The staff was so warm and friendly and seemed happy to talk with us. They even had an adorable dog in the shop which is always a plus in my book. We shopped this business for knitting supplies instead of the larger craft stores in order to support local small businesses. The facility and selection were wonderful - well organized. However, the customer service was subpar and frigid, at best. We could not tell if the owner was bothered or inwardly delighted that we had questions and made purchases. I go to the Outer Banks every year and keep coming back to this store because it's the only yarn shop near Corolla. This year I'm taking the trip down to Manteo just to avoid it. The selection is good, but the owners are consistently unwelcoming and rude. For instance, like most yarn stores they have a ball winder. Unlike most stores, they will only wind two skeins, because "we're too busy" to do more, even if you're the only customers in the shop. When I asked if I could wind them myself, I was told no because I might break it. That was one negative experience out of many. Seriously, avoid this place. read more

I do love a warm and welcoming LYS and knitting addiction is no exception! The store is clean, spacious, local dyers featured, and the owner is happy to just chat or offer suggestions. I walked away with some great skeins, notes on a fiber festival bear my home (in another state), and a little love from the resident rescue pup. Every year since I found this place, I have to make a stop on our vacation. This year I brought my kids and the little play area made my shopping experience so much more enjoyable. While recently in Kitty Hawk I was looking for a local yarn shop. Knitting Addiction was listed on Yelp but 9 of their 11 reviews were somewhat scathing, to say the least. I decided I had to check it out. I made two different visits there during the week I was in town and had wonderful service and found lots of gorgeous yarn and patterns. When we first walked in to the brand new store, which is large and lovely, we were asked promptly by two different sales women if we needed any help. When I had questions about the yarns, they had answers. The owner was not in the shop the first day but she was on my second visit. She was very helpful and friendly. I only wish I lived in NC so I could go back to the store often. I bought some really nice yarns and they gave me the $5.00 pattern for free when I bought the yarn mentioned in the pattern. Don't know what all the negativity was about but I found none of it on either of my visits. Knitting Addiction has five stars from me. read more

What a treat to find this place at the beach! Big open store with couches and plenty of room to browse. Very friendly and welcoming. Got to see and touch a number of bamboo, alpaca, and silk blends that were new to me. Left with 3 gorgeous silver skeins of an alpaca/silk blend as a souvenir. Lots of cute samples of baby knits, too. We come to OBX every year and I usually budget for a "splurge" at the Coach outlet. I think I'll be changing that to a yarn splurge going forward :) read more
