At…read morethis time of year especially I think it's a great place to shop as it's all festive and has a brilliant selection of Christmas gifts considering the small space inside. The counter is along the back wall of the shop and here you will also find the Pharmacy. Behind the counter are all the medicines which cannot be bought straight off the shelf. All staff in here are qualified to give advice on different medications and I've always found their recommendations to be honest and accurate, I've never felt like I was being steered towards the most expensive option and most will advise that the Boots own brand painkillers are as effective as the bigger brands which cost up to three times more. The shop is laid out in a straightforward manner and it's incredibly easy to find everything you're looking for, products are consistently grouped together and the shelf edge labels let you know that you're in the correct place and also advise of any special offers relating to the items you are planning to purchase. Their selection of bathroom items are fantastic, all the top name shower gels and bubble baths are available as well as the excellent Boots ranges. I usually buy a lot of my shower gels from here as I am not particularly loyal to any one brand and the special offers (including lots of BOGOF's usually) makes this a cheap way of purchasing brands that I would usually find too expensive. This branch also sells a limited range of make-up which is well priced, because of lack of space they tend to stock only the most popular brands and shades so I cannot always find anything I want but then I am a bit fussy when it comes to make-up so prefer to visit one of the larger Boots stores. Their Christmas gifts are currently on a 3 for 2 offer which can drastically cut your present shopping bill - just yesterday I went in and bought half a dozen gifts including a Baileys gift set, individual tea pot and tea cup and set of In The Night Garden figures. The presents are all of the highest quality and Boots gifts are generally well received by my friends and family because there are some unusual items that I haven't seen before. This branch stocks an excellent selection of cosmetics bags and I usually buy a few of these as stocking fillers because they are attractive and very reasonably priced. The pharmacy is great, the pharmacist has been there for years and knows his customers well. I've heard him greet some of them by name, but is very personable even to people like myself who don't use the pharmacy very often. I have popped in with the kids occasionally for advice on small matters where I wouldn't want to bother the doctor and he is efficient and asks lots of questions before giving his opinion. Everything he's ever told me has proved to be correct and I find him, and all staff in this branch, to be reliable and well informed. The shop is well spaced so getting around in a wheelchair or with a pram poses no problem, there is plenty of space between the shelves so even the most boisterous toddler in the world (who happens to be my daughter!) won't be able to snatch stuff off the shelves as you're browsing - unlike a larger Boots I visit sometimes where I have to watch her like a hawk!

Superdrug Stores

It's not often I shop in Superdrug, although when I do this branch on New Street is my absolute…read morefavourite because of the range of goods and also the size and cleanliness of the store. They sell all the items that Superdrug are known for an at very competitive prices, even compared to other Superdrug stores. This branch is laid out very well and it's really nice to have a browse, the shop is bright and airy and everything is spotlessly clean. I love the range of body care products available in Superdrug and often stock up on their bits and pieces when they have things I want on special offer. Their gift sets in particular are excellent value, I bought a Lacoste Touch of Pink set a few days ago for my sisters Christmas present and this cost me £17.99 - a fiver cheaper than the nearby Boots store! This branch doesn't tend to have BOGOF offers, but rather they will choose a range of products and set the prices so that you are paying full price if you just buy the one but can mix and match them with other products in the range and then pay a discounted price for the two. The Aussie haircare range is currently on this offer with most products costing around £3.50, or you can choose two for £5.99. I like the fact that this branch is set out logically as I get so annoyed with other Superdrug stores because their products are all mixed up and it doesn't make sense to have shampoo mixed in with bubble baths to me! They have a good range of pretty much everything, the only thing I find this particular branch lacking in is the nail products as although they sell nail polish they don't stock many treatments or nail polish removers. I like their selection of hair care products as whether I am in there for shampoo or styling gel, they have a fantastic selection and are very reasonably priced. Don't forget to have a look at the shelf towards the back of the shop as this is where they display their 'reduced' items, some of the products here are fantastically cheap with one item I bought yesterday being a Maybelline foundation which usually costs £10 which had been reduced to just £2.49! Bargain! The staff in here are really nice and seem to know what they are talking about whenever I have had to query something. If I can't find a particular item I'm looking for then any member of staff will help and they never make out that it's any trouble for them, physically guiding me to the correct area for whatever it is I'm looking for.

I was in here just before Christmas looking for a Rimmel lip gloss in a particular shade and asked one of the members of staff if they had any in the drawers underneath. They had a look and found a tester bottle but said I could buy it if I wanted as it had not being used. As soon as I looked at it I could see that about half the tube had gone! I told this to the staff member and they just said they did not notice! Other than that I would have given it 5 stars

The layout is excellent in here with everything exactly where I expect it to be, a lot of Superdrugs are laid out in a very higgledy piggledy manner I find but this one is the exception to the rule. The aisles are perfectly straight, none of those awful shelving racks that stick out at right angles to the rest making getting around the shop an awkward nightmare! This branch is a decent size and stocks all the big brand names as well as Superdrug branded items. Of course, the emphasis in here is on health and beauty products and the range is fantastic. From shampoo to hair colourants, shower gel to bubble bath and Paracetamol to Deep Heat - everything you could want is available here and at much cheaper prices than its main rival, Boots. The make up selection isn't brilliant, but to be honest I don't use Superdrug for make up anyway so this doesn't bother me. I sometimes buy my daughters bits of make up and have found that although they stock the main brands, the choices of colours are not always the best on the High Street - perfect for a 12 year old just learning about make up though and always a pound or two cheaper than other shops. I love the sales this branch has quite regularly where things are reduced drastically to silly prices. A couple of weeks ago I popped in just to buy a bottle of pop and ended up spending nearly £40 because they'd reduced so many of my favourite products. Original Source bubble bath for 99p, Nivea hand cream for 49p, Nicky Clarke conditioner for 79p - amazing, and my best bargain was a light up mirror reduced from £20 to £4.99! I almost couldn't carry all the bags to the car! The staff in this branch are really lovely, most of them are older than I'd expect but this means they are patient and experienced when dealing with customers. I usually know what I want when I visit Superdrug so rarely have to ask for help, but when I have required assistance the staff are always polite and very helpful.
