They were very thorough and took great care in even marking stepping stones to lay the bark and then place the stones back in the exact places. They put the bark under plants and did a really good thick layer. They promptly got more material as soon as it was evident it was needed but they notified me first. Payment for the work was quick and easy via Venmo. I would use them again. Very pleased.

Our neighbor was planning to have tree work done and gave us the name of the tree company he…read moreintended to hire, Mike Lyons Tree Service. We contacted Mr. Lyons and arranged for him to inspect our property and provide an estimate for several tree-trimming projects. He came to our home, walked through the work we wanted completed, and quoted a day rate of $2,500. During that meeting, he explained that after his crew completed work at our neighbor's property, they could trim a few branches on trees near our house while they were already in the area and then return later to complete the remainder of the project. Based on our discussion, we left with the impression that everything was proceeding as planned. We asked him to send us a written contract or proposal for the work. He agreed, but we never received one, nor did he contact us. Later, our neighbor told us that Mr. Lyons would be working at his property on the following Tuesday. Since we still had not received the promised contract or heard from him, we called Mr. Lyons that morning to discuss the project. He said he was in the area and would stop by. About an hour later, while his crew was working next door, Mr. Lyons knocked on our door and informed us that his crew was already trimming trees on our property. This came as a complete surprise because we had never authorized any work, signed a contract, or agreed on the scope or price for that portion of the job. When I inspected the work with him, I found that approximately 10-15 small-to-medium branches, approximately 1/2-4 inches in diameter, had been removed from a single oak tree. In my opinion, the cuts were not made as cleanly as I expected, and because the bucket truck was already positioned immediately adjacent to our property while working next door, and did not need to be moved, the work appeared to require less than 30 minutes of labor, including hauling the branches to the chipper. I asked what he intended to charge. He quoted $250 and said he expected payment that day. I asked whether that amount could instead be applied toward the larger project we had previously discussed, but he said it would not. We then discussed the remaining work, scheduling, and the written contract we had originally requested. Mr. Lyons told us he finalized his schedule on Sundays and would contact us afterward with a contract. That was the last communication we received, and we've heard nothing more from Lyon's Tree Service. Based on our experience, we were disappointed by several aspects of this transaction. Work began on our property before we had authorized it or signed a contract, the $250 charge for approximately 30 minutes of work seemed disproportionate, particularly since the crew and equipment were already on site working at our neighbor's property, and no additional travel or setup appeared to be required, and the promised follow-up regarding the remainder of the project never occurred. Had Mr. Lyons simply informed us that he was either unable or not inclined to take on the larger job, we would have appreciated the courtesy and honesty. A professional businessman would do this. Professional communication and clear agreements are essential when hiring a contractor. Unfortunately, we did not experience either in this case, and for that reason we cannot recommend this company.

He made suggestions but also really listened and addressed any questions thoughtfully and thoroughly. Midway through the drainage system installation, he pointed out a place where I had some dry rot that should be repaired before they finished the work. Alex was flexible and waited to hear back from me that my repairs were done before coming back to complete his work. I'm so grateful for that, and also that we caught the issue before more damage had been done! The retaining wall and grading look great as do the rock work, drainage system and new concrete steps. All was completed in just 1-1/2 days, and for a very fair price. As an added bonus, the driveway and parking pad benefitted from extra gravel, including Alex and his team moving a heavy trailer to freshen up the area underneath with new stone. From start to finish the backyard project took over a year to finish. Our backyard project was not big. This was an extremely stressful process as we had to check up on the work throughout; at points we went months without any work being done and David always had an excuse. Admittedly, we didn't have all the final decisions made prior to the start and things were fluid at times but there was always work that could have been done which didn't happen unless we pushed. With the amount we paid we thought the owner would have been more helpful with design but were left to do research and find/look at materials ourselves. We had to withhold payments because work wasn't being done despite being pestered and payments demanded from the owner. Numerous times we had to have conversations regarding progressive payments being demanded by the owner despite lack of work being performed. The only thing that motivated the owner to get back to work was us withholding payment. The owner clearly had too many projects and not enough workers resulting in the customer suffering which we heard from one of the workers was an issue with his other jobs too. We had a large landscaping company come out while we had one of the long breaks in work and pointed out many issues and stated they would've completed the job in 3 weeks. It was exhausting and stressful to have to inspect every aspect of the job and find subpar work being performed/corners being cut. An issue we still have is drainage, which we questioned the owner about prior to finishing the project but were assured it wouldn't be an issue. We trusted him but again learned the hard way not to. We are going to have to hire another company to fix the lake that arrives in the middle of our backyard when a large rain occurs. Our project was expensive and his bid was on the high side compared with others so needless to say we expected much better.

Worst experience with a landscaper or contractor I've every had! The designer, David, was…read moreprofessional, attentive, and said all the right things; however, when the problems started, he no longer wanted to be involved. Andrew Rogers, the owner, was extremely difficult to work with. He was dismissive and unresponsive. In hindsight, I should have walked away from this company when Andrew made a big point of the fact that he does not come on site during the project. I questioned how his crew would know what to do. He assured me that he communicated with his crew every morning, and it would all be fine. Andrew does not communicate well with his crew. The errors began on Day 1 and continued throughout the project. On Day 1, I watched the crew start ripping up my existing mulch and weed fabric (the plan was to leave it). Then I watched them start putting back the now ripped up fabric. The crew told me they had made a mistake... My husband went out to look at the French Drain they were suppose to be installing. He questioned the crew because it didn't look like a French Drain to him. They said "Oh no. French Drains cost a lot. This isn't a French Drain." Well; thank goodness my husband noticed because they would have covered it with dirt, and we would have never known they had not installed the proper drain! We were paying $2400 for that French Drain. So they had to redo that. We were texting Andrew telling him that we were becoming alarmed because his workers did not seem to know what to do. Andrew was not answering my texts with my concerns, so I had my husband start texting him. Andrew would reply to my husband's texts, but not mine, even though I was the one who hired him, signed the contract and was going to pay him. I suspect he does not respect women. The design called for the continuation of an existing creek bed which Andrew said he could match, and the addition of some sod. When the rocks were delivered and did not match, he put the blame on us for not selecting the correct size rocks. We had hoped the "professional" landscaper would be able to match the rocks, and not put the burden on us. Thank goodness we were home throughout the project because the creek bed was not according to the design, and had to be redone multiple times. When we asked where the additional sod was, the crew said they didn't know anything about that. We were begging Andrew to come on site to guide his workers, since his crew was doing so many things wrong. On the 2nd to last day, Andrew finally came over to our property, only because we were so upset. Due to all the mistakes and redos, the project took longer, and on the last day the crew were rushing to leave. My husband went out to test the drips as they were leaving, and there was a huge leak. The crew left without putting drips on several plants, and we only noticed when plants started dying in a few days. We had to call them back because they never flushed the drip line and all the emitters became clogged and the plants were not being watered. We have asked Andrew to help us with the stretch of dying sod which they installed, and Andrew has ghosted us. Andrew sent us the final invoice on the last day. When I questioned the plant count and gallon sizes, he responded by sending me a new invoice with an additional $1200 of new charges he made up after the final invoice; I guess because he was mad I questioned the plant count? When I told him that overcharging is actually illegal, and we might need to contact the State Licensing Board, he quickly removed the charges. Although our project cost over $10,000 we wonder if maybe Rogers Landscaping does not want to bother with smaller landscaping projects. The crew he sent was not equipped to follow an intricate design. Andrew's communication with us, and with his crew was horrible. He does not own up to his company's mistakes.
