Not a single smile was issued. There was no welcome at all in fact, only disdainful looks from the 3 women huddled around the payment desk! Worse still, they were loudly gossiping about a well-known woman from the cycling community here. JV, you have no friends @ Haven and neither do I! One other woman was browsing while I was in the store. No attempts were made to engage either of us. God forbid - one of us might actually buy something! The attitude at Haven represents the worst of Marin stereotypes but there is no exclusivity here to even begin to justify it. All of the brands and models they sell are available online, at lower markup and without the toxic vibe. Do yourselves a favor and avoid this place.

With that said - the experience of shopping there has changed...pretty dramatically. I won't pretend that Carolina was ever a place for a bargain - it's always been a high end store with items that would be considered splurges or even out of the range of possibility (for the majority of people). In the last year, the prices have skyrocketed. What used to be the highest priced item is now the norm. $600 sweaters, $800 slip dresses, etc. Listen I get it, it's Mill Valley and an increasingly wealthier demographic with inflation being insane. But also, this sucks? Your prices have literally doubled. What once felt like an occasional shopping treat now just feels alienating and over the top. The owner / buyers have the best taste in town - if you're reading this, could you please bring back some of the more moderately (reasonably) priced brands? I think a lot of the non ultra elite 2% Mill Valley-ites would be super appreciative and love to support you again. But as of now, it's literally impossible. For what it's worth this is not just an opinion of mine but fellow friends who just want to go back to their favorite Carolina. I appreciate you taking the time to read and consider!

There is also another store they own around the corner that has more items that has a separate entrance. They had some really beautiful purses that are the brand "Anna by Anushka". They are hand painted bags with different scenes. The one that caught my eye was the purse with a scene of Santorini, Greece. It was really lovely. They had a really nice variety of women's shoes and sandals. I tried on a pair of embroidered and hand painted sneakers. There were flowers and butterflies all over it. They only had two sizes left and both were too big, unfortunately. The owners were very nice and tried to find me something else that would work. I only really wanted that particular shoe. Oh well. Next time I'm in town, I will stop by again.

I stopped in twice and wish I had more time to shop on each visit. They offer a wide selection of fun leather belts. I bought a belt, which ended up being too small (that's what I get for trying it in over a dress, instead of with jeans!). So I returned a few weeks later to exchange it. Like most boutiques, there's a short exchange window. Fortunately they let me make an exchange. Unfortunately the same belt was not available in the larger size so I had to make an exchange and pay the balance for a more expensive option. But I took home another belt that fits and that I love. I look forward to returning and exploring the store more when I'm next in Tiburon.
