I stopped in to look for a generic part for my charcoal grill, they sell grills here and have a limited supply of parts in stock so I thought they might have something I could retro-fit. After waking the aisles I figured I'd run into an employee at some point and I did, after having a short conversation he insisted they didn't have what I needed so I asked him if maybe we could figure out something to get me by but he insisted I would need to go online and find the correct part, being I am visiting from out of town and had steaks thawing even Amazon couldn't save the moment. Well today "Ace wasn't the place with the helpful hardware folks" unfortunately although it is a nice little hometown store. After being a little disappointed that I wasn't going to find a workable solution I moved on. Fast-forward 10 minutes and a short drive up the road to Publix - I walk in headed to aisle 3 where they sell charcoal, chips and chunks of wood for smokers and voi· là there it is. I guess this Ace is more geared for canned solutions which is fine if you need a box of screws, a PVC fitting or a plunger. There's a full service hardware shop and anything they don't have. They could probably get for you within 24 to 48 hours check for hours during holidays, but everyone is very knowledgeable and anyone who doesn't know something. Just go to Bob in the paint section. He knows everything. read more

So sad how this hardware store has changed, not for the better, since Shell Lumber bought it. My issue mostly stems from the young men they hire who know nothing and don't even try to be helpful. On yesterday's visit, I went to the counter and asked where I needed to go to order screen doors (since the home improvement part of the building is closed and being renovated). Guy on the counter insisted "no, they are still working over there" gesturing to the home improvement side. Nope. Another young guy mumbled that I needed to go to the contractor desk to place an order. Ok, I waited in the line at the contractor desk. The guy working it walked off with another customer. Another employee asked if I needed help. "Yes, I need to order screen doors." He replied that I'd have to wait until Monday and go back over to the home improvement area that's under renovation. I left in frustration. Sat down at my computer and ordered them from Home Depot. They will be delivered Monday. This used to be a great home town hardware store with locals working who were knowledgeable and helpful. Now, it's a bunch of "kids" pulling a pay check and nothing more. read more

I just want to say the customer service here is one of a kind and a rare find these days. Every staff member I ask always knows the answer and is happy to help. Romaine was exceptional today helping me find just the right paint for my project. Needed tongue and groove boards. Home Depot website said they had it but in the store they couldn't find them and didn't know when they could have them. Lowes could order them but would be several months to get. KLI had a higher quality board than I was looking for and of course it cost more than HD or Lowes. But the boards were in stock!!! In the end, am happy with the higher quality boards as the project went faster and easier with premium materials. Great staff at KLI worked patiently with me as I figured it out. Arrived for a trade show at ORC with one of the sponsor signs missing. A quick trip to the UPS Store to print a poster...but no way to mount it. They recommended KLI hardware to get some foamcore. Well one of the guys said that sounds like sign board and go ask Kureem. First Kureem said all that stock went back to the Coconut Grove store but he would look to see if there was any left. He walked me all over and just when about to give up he said he did have some luan and they would cut it to the size I needed if that would work. Yes! And... They had the spray glue to mount it. Sharonda and the entire team there are amazing !!! They helped me walk my way from antiquated money $ / electric wasting fluorescent incandescent and halogen to LED bulbs. Now my electric bill is less than 1/2 !!! I recommend this store without a doubt. They are terrific. read more

On the website it States Saturday closes at 5pm, so you head that way fight traffic etc etc, when you arrive at 410pm its closed and there is a piece of paper and written with a marker Saturday to 4pm... Why ??? Update the website save some people the aggravation. read more

I buy $5M in lumber in 6 different states at over 12 lumber yards. By far, this is the worst experience. Every time. Bad selection, service, pricing, etc. the parking lot is poorly designed, it's chaos. Today I bought 52 2x6-10 they only had 24. They had No 8 foot. So I have to get a credit for the 28 they sold that they didn't have. Always searching for someone to assist. Same story everyday. The district manager said they have been working for 2 years to get this store right. I think that says it all, two years later and it's still a joke. I can't afford to lose a whole day to get a small order. I won't be back, do yourself a favor, avoid the aggravation, go somewhere else. read more

Have had good experience with the lumber. The young man that helped me out at the contractor's desk was a big help. There are a couple of older gents who should learn how to treat paying customers. They are rude and seem insulted if you ask for help. God forbid if you do not explain what you need exactly the way they need it. I will go here for the lumber, but will make the drive to Tavernier to Ace to avoid having to pay for the privilege of being degraded for my everyday hardware needs. read more

Come here reminds me of when I was a kid, when hardware stores actually had people that knew about home improvement. Mostly older retired guys work here, which is how it should be, they have done anything I might be planning on do, as such they can help! They have most of what cha need, but as anywhere in the keys there will be some special items you can't get here. read more

Super rude employees that seem to be bothered with customers. Worst hardware store in the upper keys. They have no air conditioning store is 100 degrees in the summer. When the ACE HARDWARE that is closer to the house is out of something, we come here. Or if we need wood. Really, they are a nicer store, all around. They are a "local" hardware store, with old guys to help you out. (Can't be a good hardware store without the old guys.) They have basically anything you will need, unless it is a special job. Hey, this is still the keys, limited houses, limited customers; have reasonable expectations. If you know you have a special job, hit the Home Depot in Florida City before you hit the stretch on your way down. read more

Prices ate higher than big box stores but they have a good selection for such a small store. Plus the employees have always been very helpful with tips on how to do something. I enjoy shopping here but I do find it a major inconvenience that they are not open on Sunday. I'm sure they are doing what makes financial sense for them but it is a day where DIY homeowner types are likely to need stuff. Even if I plan ahead and go before they close on Saturday, invariably I find I need something else and my options are drive to homestead or wait til next weekend! read more

First of all, their kitchen/bath building is 5-star. Their selection is excellent, the sales help many times better than in Lowe's or Home Depot, and, surprisingly, their prices are often better than those huge stores. The sales help and selection in the main store and yard is excellent, too. Here, you might pay more than in the mainland, huge discount stores ... BUT NOT ALWAYS. KLI is actually less expensive on some important items. You can't touch them on stainless-steel screws. KLI has a complete selection and the best price anywhere. I gave KLI four stars because it can't match the mainland, huge discount stores on most prices, otherwise I would have given KLI five stars, because its sales help is dramatically better. read more

This was the worst service ever! We ordered 2 sinks on March 9th and were told that one was in stock at their warehouse and would be delivered to the store 3/15. The other sink would be delivered to them on 3/22. On 3/23 I had to call them to find out that neither sink was delivered and had to ask them to call to check on them. I was then told one sink would be delivered 3/22 and the other would be on 3/29. When I called on 3/30 I was told that one sink was finally delivered on 3/29 but the other did not arrive. I again had to ask them to call and they found out that the sink was back-ordered and would not be available until mid-April (the clerk said "It's a good thing I called" - as if it had been his idea). So they called and found another distributor that had it in stock and it was finally delivered on 4/4. This clerk had absolutely no follow-up. And when we finally picked up the sinks, another clerk yelled at us to move our car from a pick up area to a different warehouse door. When loading the sinks, the Customer Service man tried to jam them into our car where they wouldn't fit. This experience was awful from beginning to end. We had another contractor waiting to install these in new countertops who was calling every week since 3/22 to find out when the sinks would be available. I hope the new owners who bought this business will get rid of all of the employees who don't provide good customer service. read more
