What a fun spot to spend some time in! My husband, toddler, and I enjoyed passing time at Island Home. There's so much to see and my toddler really loved looking at the various large garden decor, fountains and statues. I wished that we lived in the area so that I could purchase far too many plants for my home and garden. We wandered around until we found the bunnies, one of whom put on quite the show for my son, grabbing his bowl and tossing it about the enclosure. My toddler couldn't stop talking about the funny bunny. We headed over to the bistro for some smoothies to share and that's where we found the chickens! There are 3 of them and they love blueberries. They seriously go crazy for them so be aware if your little ones are doing the feeding. My son wasn't phased at all and found it hilarious though. You can ask for some blueberries at the bistro, they were offered to us while we sipped our smoothies (delicious, fresh, cold and refreshing). It's so nice to break up all the typical Key Largo seafood fair with fresh and light foods. We had such a great time we went back a few days later and were so pleased when my son was kindly offered the opportunity to give the bunnies treats! Just some really friendly people here, great grounds to stroll, entertaining animals, and a bistro with tasty offerings (we got smoothies on our second visit too). read more

Wow, they have a great selection of plants, pots, soils, hardware, gift shop, cafe and occasional art classes! Deceiving how much is behind the canopy and fence. The Hens walking around, were unexpected. Definitely a local goto place for gardening supplies. read more

Beautiful. I will make this stop EVERY time I visit Key West COMING AND GOING!! Unique and beautiful flowers and trees. Exotic and lush. Bunny houses and chicken coops too. Pet-friendly but they must be in a leash as hens are all over. Delicious food offerings. A cafe too. Other assorted baked and handcrafted goodies throughout. Upscale farmers market. Quality gift shop. I can spend hours here. read more

What a wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon. In the mornings they have a quirky breakfast/brunch thing going and the food is excellent. But the star is the property and the people. It's in the middle of a beautiful plant nursery. You don't even have to be a plant lover - there are chickens roaming around! That's entertainment! Seriously, the plants and the knowledgeable staff are my biggest reason for going. We never leave there without buying something. read more

So this is the keys. Keys Houses face unique landscaping challenges. Little rain fall. Saltwater tidal flooding. High cost of city water and very few houses have sprinkler systems. Many houses are vacation homes, meaning someone isn't there all the time to tend plants. (Unless you hire a service.) Most yards are mostly rock driveway, as real estate is at a premium, many houses are elevated (by code) and driveways continue literally under the houses. Hence the need for salt water resistant, drought resistant sturdy plants. We also wanted to get native plants because why not? Getting native plants helps to support native wildlife like bees and birds and butterflies. They have everything here. They had several choices for our needs as well as potted plant types and things you really shouldn't be growing in the keys but you want to because you're rich or stupid. They were very nice and knowledgeable. (And a side note my husband insists I include: the blonde chick was incredibly hot.) read more

What a huge array of tropical plants, herbs, and flowers! I came by here on a beautiful day and was surprised by how many plants were packed into the space. From Overseas Hwy, it looks very unassuming but as I walked deeper into the space, there were just more and more plants! They sell a wide variety of plants from the more common plants (like orchid, succulents, air plants) to ones that you've probably never heard of! Most of the plants had detailed descriptions containing information like sunlight level, how far to plant them from each other and if they're annuals or perennials etc. The girl in the gift shop was very friendly and answered my questions. Definitely check this place out if you're looking to buy some healthy plants! Unfortunately, I don't know price ranges for most of these plants, so I can't speak on that. read more

This plant nursery, garden center, and gift shop are perfection! My friend and I were cruising the Overseas Highway and found Island Home on the bayside of Tavernier. The white picket fence, colorful container pottery in shades of blue (my favorite color), and lush bougainvillea flowing over the fence caught our attention. We spent hours meandering through the fruit trees, orchids, succulents, shade loving plants, water features, and pottery along with visiting the chickens, cat, and bunnies living on the property. I wish Island Home was closer to home - I would purchase all of my landscaping projects here. read more

This place is amazing. I very much enjoy looking at all the plants at nurseries, but this place has by far the best variety of plants I've seen. Prices are surprisingly inexpensive comparative to inland. I highly recommend coming here to buy, to learn, or to explore. read more

We were very excited to take a ride to this place having passed it many times before. We needed to replace many of our trees and shrubs at our FL Keys properties after Hurricane Irma. We wanted selection, professional advice, and we wanted to support a local business. All good until we asked to use the restroom. We were told by two employees that the facility had no restrooms for public use. When we asked if an exception could be made, we were told no, and to go up the street to a gas station. I said if we leave here to pee elsewhere, we would not return to shop, and they let us drive off. And so our experience was a disappointment. Hopefully the owner will consider providing at least a porta-potty for it's customers. So it's off to the giant home improvement center for us. ...and the sign on the gas station front door says "no public restrooms". What a shame. read more
