I've purchased some great pieces in Chidori Antiques, and the owner, Daniel Stalcup, is one of my all-time favorite dealers. He is everything I look for in an antiques dealer - honest, knowledgeable, friendly, negotiable, fair, and not at all pushy at any time. His prices are quite reasonable for the high quality pieces that he has in the shop. This is not some business in which new, imported merchandise is being sold as authentic old pieces - these are the real things, always obtained from totally genuine sources, and at very fair prices for this level of quality. He always willingly shares a wealth of information about individual pieces that he has gathered through much study and experience. When he doesn't know something about a piece, he freely admits it, and then finds a way to try to get whatever info is requested or needed. Just looking around the shop tells you what a great eye he has for assembling so many stunning pieces from so many diverse cultures. This is a beautifully presented selection of fascinating olde-tyme curios in an updated, totally pleasing atmosphere. What more could any collector ask for?

I visited because my thrift store bought standing lamp broke where the shade connects to the light socket, damaging the wire also. Didn't really know much about the lamp except is was a heavy, quality, unique piece worth fixing. Took it in and they were able to tell me it's a European lamp with an usual size of socket threading, but they found a solution and it was rewired and ready to pick up in under 2 weeks! Well guess what... I put the lampshade on and adjusted it too tightly and the socket cracked... then 2 days later our large 2X3 foot painting fell, knocking over the lamp (shade was not attached at the time) damaging it further and we had picture frame glass shards everywhere! Not our lucky day. We took the lamp back and they had a stronger socket. Our lamp shade was large and too heavy for the first one. Now it's fixed and looking great. Thanks LUXE team, you are great!

I called several times and left voicemails requesting a call back from a manager, but no response. Finally I filed a dispute to the original purchase with my cc company...in good faith, only disputing the amount in excess of the IKEA price (regardless that the bookshelf I bought wasn't even brand new). It appears the collection had no problems in their responsiveness to the credit card company defending the charge, but can't return my phone call to resolve the issue. I will either work with my c company for resolution, or will file charges for fraudulent misrepresentation of a product. This place fraudulently represents their furniture to upsell it, but beware you could probably go to ikea and find it much cheaper.

When I asked the employee if this was his best offer, he replied, "This is my best offer." I later calculated the melt value of the silver they kept at approximately $5,100. That means they paid me roughly 75% of melt. Because of this experience, I will not be bringing in my much larger collection that I will soon inherit from my uncle. Very disappointed with Northgate Rare Coin Shop.
