While I've never purchased here, I have to say the walk through is one of the most unique and remarkable places to browse in all of Georgetown, which is saying a lot since Georgetown is already the epicenter for the unique and remarkable in Seattle. I have always had a crush on the creatives of this world, for their ability to see things that, while I can appreciate and be inspired by, I could not put together myself. Its a intangible talent to make beauty tangible. To create and transform a space. You walk in here, and everything is unique, and its placed in such a way that makes you see an already one-of-a-kind item, differently. Its not just a furniture store for the reclaimed and upcycled, Kirk Albert has some really almost revolutionary transformations going on, like turning a vintage bowling alley into a long, gorgeous communal table by adding enormous, industrial-type legs. Turning old reclaimed wood into a one of a kind console by by breathing new life into it with a balanced set of Frankenstein shop legs. He incorporates found items like a giant ten foot long hanging hammer (take that, boring home office!) to a humorously disturbing John Basquiat meets Frances Bacon framed 3-D tormented man, to possibly hang over your VIctorian fireplace. This shop is very expensive, no doubt about it. Its not for everyone. I mean when have you ever struck out to shop for a six foot tall, black, turn of the century Moose Lodge sign? But for those who like to think outside the box, one piece here could boost your home decorating prowess. Kirk Albert has a curator's eye, a unique and inspiring way of looking at objects that could potentially transform your living space.

My friend loves antique stores. I have very mixed feelings on antique stores - they either are…read morereally cool flashbacks to a past era or they have the air of a garage sale with the antique name. To be honest this place gave me anxiety. I immediately noticed the turquoise colored carpet patched with bright blue duct tape. Then I realized the sheer impossible task it would be to replace the carpet since the store is filled to the brim. Mountains of items create artificial one way aisles so narrow it's impossible for two people to stand side by side. Items hung on the walls, from the ceiling, on tables, under tables, against other items, on top of other items, on the floor, and inside furniture. Maybe it was my organizational nature poking out but I couldn't fathom any rhyme or reason to what was placed where and how any inventory is managed I have no guess. Then there's all the items that I paused wondering why it was there at all from dolls' heads to broken clocks. The shelf of "antique airplane liquor bottles" really made me wonder because what's the point? The paper stickers around the caps were faded, some of the bottles looked a bit deformed, other caps had an unusual look. Considering how many were in here it doesn't appear they're a hot seller. At one point I realized if there was a fire or earthquake and we weren't by the entrance we wouldn't be able to escape. It was just so much clutter. If you like hunting for a deal this place is for you! If you cringe at disorganization or suffer from claustrophobia I can't recommend it.

There's Otto, a skeleton dated from at least the 1870s, a ton of taxidermy, porcupine quills, apothecary jars, a bunch of taxidermied animals, and so many other interesting curiosities to look at. While the vast majority of items are for sale, I would honestly call Mudlark Oddities more of a museum than anything. Many of us do not have the space nor the correct temperature and humidity to store taxidermied specimens. As much as I wanted to purchase the horseshoe crab skeleton, it was super fragile, and unless we had a spare box, I had no way of safely transporting it in our car. We spent at least a half hour in the store perusing all the cool pieces of history, and I took a ton of pictures to commemorate our visit. The staff were friendly, and I ended up getting a small metal bird-shaped bejeweled trinket holder as well as a few stickers. I'd love to visit Mudlark Oddities again the next time we're in Seattle! What a unique place!

I discovered Antique Importers while on a quest to find the perfect Danish Modern coffee table and…read moremy journey soon came to an end as I set foot in the shop. There it was sitting atop another table, the Holy Grail of my coffee table crusade. It was a true Danish piece, it was teak, it was vintage, and most importantly it wasn't ridiculously over-priced like a lot of tables on eBay or Craigslist. I must have had a completely different experience then some of the other reviewers at Antique Importers. The owner, Chris I believe his name is, was very friendly the entire time I was in the store. He never followed me around with his arms crossed, scowling, or treating me like a potential criminal, and yes, I do fall into the 25-30 year old looking age range. Actually, he was quite helpful and answered several questions that I had regarding the table and even took $10 off the delivery cost for me as I didn't live too far away from the store. Oh, and they even delivered the table on a Sunday evening after they closed! How many places have service like that these days? None of this "we'll be around sometime between 1pm-4pm on a Wednesday" b.s. that most places stick you with. If you're looking for larger furniture pieces, tables, chairs, sideboards etc, then you should check out Antique Importers for sure. If you're looking for smaller, more decorative items, then this might not be the best place, but there are more then a few of those shops close by in Pioneer Square.
