Fantastic little store, the owner is very friendly and knowledgeable about his items, always open to discuss what you're looking for and what's in his collection. There's a wide selection of items in his store and you can leave a note in his book of items you want. The prices are good, you might not be getting an insane steal but you definitely wont be getting overcharged. I recommend stopping by if you're in the area! read more

Such a well kept store with items of many different styles and price ranges. Plus, the folks who run the store are incredibly nice and helpful. The comments on the price tags give me a chuckle! read more

Mr. Johnson's is the epitome of a high-quality, neighborhood antiques shop. We go here at least a couple times each month, and we've found everything from a cobbler's bench (a birthday present purchased nine months before they could deliver it because of COVID) to cabinet cards that are mostly from Iowa and Nordic countries. The owner is quite a character--ask him about the Chinese slide--and the other guy who works there is a character in training. Don't miss the annex, which is mostly without organization, but you can find good stuff in there. read more

Stopped in here due to bad 23rd/Montlake traffic one Saturday. I'd always been curious but often went by a) on the bus or b) when the shop was closed. It was like a curse! I am so glad I finally stopped it, though, as the proprietor, Matt, is a character. Great fun to talk to, he also talked himself down in price ("bulk discount!") as I bought four old, pretty, c-clamps (who knew, right?) ... and then when I expressed some interest in crafting, he threw in some vintage brass pins as well. There is a great variety of stuff in this shop, and at many price points. Everything from a to-die-for orange glass vase ($75, out of my budget on that day) to my $5-a-piece decorative c-clamps. Lots of vintage spice tins and patent medicine bottles, well-kept yet old tools (even a fire hydrant opener!?) The only negative thing, and this is the tiniest negative, is that I stopped in to see if he'd have some "junky" furniture that I could buy cheap and refinish. All of his well-curated collection of furniture is very fine, including the most lovely sand-colored and delicate secretary - half the size of any secretary I've ever seen, and far more elegant than most. Anyhow, you can definitely get lost in this shop, as there are layers upon layers of interesting and unique housewares, clothing, art, and on and on. Great fun to shop and good conversation while you're there. I couldn't recommend this place more highly! read more

Drove by on the way to the U-District one day and said to myself that It looked like a nice hidden gem of an Antique store, so on my way back decided to stop on in. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the products, reasonable prices and the friendliness of the owner, Matt. Walked out with some great treasures but the real bonus of Mr. Johnson's Antiques is Matt with his great stories, valued information and truly genuine nature. read more

Mr. Johnson's Antiques - Antiques Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Whimsical fancies and exceptional service abound! I took a very old antique mirror here to be fixed and Mr. Johnson's mirror specialist fixer guy did an amazing job restoring it to its original glory for a very reasonable price. While there, I discovered a très chic lamp from the 1950s that Mr. Johnson pimped out with new wiring. He definitely knows his stuff! The selection is really fun to look through and high quality. It's definitely a curated collection -- no junk, no grandma garage sale cast-offs, no kitsch. I especially liked the assortment of lamps and art. The store has a quaint neighborhood-y feel, like you found a portal to Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood of Make-Believe. It's that friendly and whimsical. No trolley required. read more

Finally stopped by here after passing it on the 48 bus for the past few years. It's a small store, but it's packed full. The walls go to the ceiling with vintage/antique art. They had neat mid century chrome bar sets, vintage glassware (jadeite and milk glass!), silverware, old photos, vintage jewelry. The guy running the shop seemed super nice and was really just interested in imparting knowledge and excitement of the different period pieces unto others. As others mentioned, he seemed ready to bargain sooner than the customers. I heard him offer a customer a lower price than marked just because... I've only been in once, so I can't really say much about the turnover, but it's definitely worth a looksee read more

A small space packed with interesting items. Mr. Johnson himself is super friendly & knowledgable. There is a second room full of bigger items next door to peruse as well, just make sure to ask the shopkeeper for permission. My favorite antique shop on Capitol Hill! read more

I have purchased two things from this place- the first transaction was fantastic, because the proprietor is friendly, helpful, etc. But my second purchase- what a nightmare! I purchased an antique pocket watch from this store. Mr. Johnson, ever helpful, said that he would send it out to his personal watch repair guy for a new crystal face and cleaning, and I would have it back very quickly. OVER A YEAR LATER, and after numerous phone calls, I finally got my pocket watch. It bore a sticker with the suspicion-inducing message "kept time when it left the shop" (the repair guy) but the thing only runs haphazardly, and I can't count on it at all. If you buy something from Mr Johnson, make sure it's something you take with you as you leave. read more

Great little place. My boyfriend and I went one afternoon and left with some real treasures! Matt was really nice and made great conversation. He really knows what he's talking about... or so it seems. haha His prices are reasonable and he makes sure you're taken care of. I'll be going back! read more

Finally made it to Mr. Johnson's Antiques after a few years of riding by the shop while on the bus. It was very worth my time. When it comes to purchasing things for the home, I have a bias towards trying to find vintage or antiques rather than new, over-produced wares. So when I spied an egg cup, I had to have it. The owner helped be find another egg cup located in another area of the shop, so I now have a great set. I will definitely return on a day when I have more time to browse. There is just so many great items in the shop! read more

Pros: - Good selection - Owner willing to repair items Cons: - Unclear/shifting return policy - Items are overpriced - Threatening language from owner Ok I don't usually write long reviews but I want to give as much context here as possible. The owner, Matt was very nice to me the first time I came in, and I spent over $900 with the promise that I could return items that didn't work well in my new apartment. Matt did fix a lamp that broke as soon as I got it home (it broke because he told me it could swivel when it actually couldn't). He was reluctant to let me return a mirror but gave me a cash refund without the sales tax. Next visit I brought back a lamp (we had agreed that I would return it once he finished repairing the broken lamp). Matt was very reluctant to issue a refund, I had to ask him several times. In addition he basically said I could no longer return items, which is the total opposite of what he told me just two weeks prior. A friend of the owner told me Matt tends to overprice and I should barter with him, but when I tried doing this, Matt basically threatened me. He brought up a cedar chest he was selling that seals air tight and said, "Wouldn't it be so sad if a little girl got stuck in there? Or if her brother pushed her in there and killed her?" I'm a young woman alone in the store with this guy, so I was beginning to question my safety. It was very creepy, uncomfortable, disrespectful. The next time I went in (this time with a friend), I was bringing back a $160 stool with the hopes of exchanging it for a $140 bench. The employee that was there said, "Oh you must be _____" as soon as I walked in, and proceeded to tell me I can no longer return items. As rude as all that was, I just wanted to get the bench and would've considered buying more if he did an even exchange, but that was not enough for Matt. He still tacked on an extra $25 for the bench, and I paid it knowing I would never go back to this store again. There is a good selection at this store but Matt seems pretty awful to work with after the first sale (unless you're an old white guy, he practically kicked me out of the store when two came in, despite that I was the one spending $900 and they spent nothing). He also charged me for an item on my original receipt ("Japanese box") which I never bought, but after his threatening language, I'd rather just not go back. TL;DR: Shop owner is not a nice guy. Selection is pretty good but can be overpriced. Don't recommend but should you chose to shop here, negotiate price as much as possible and treat everything as final sale. read more

There aren't many of these left: not a huge mall nor a thrift shop but an old-fashioned neighborhood antique shop with reasonable prices. The owner, Matt, is knowledgeable about what he's selling and makes time for his customers, so much so that there doesn't seem to be any time at all in the shop. In other words, it is perfect. read more

Whats not to say. THis place is large and had many differnt thigns to choose from. A great array of antiques to browse through. I really like this quaint shop in an odd location. I feel more people should go into this shop and take a look around. It is never full of people. SO you can take your time and look and ponder. read more

The owner is vvery pretentious, and manipulative. If your a customer, he smiles and lures you into him. Like a spider. Into his web,. If you are attempting to do business with him he is condesending and a no it all. With no time for you. Not interested in chatting unless he's going to make a buck. I haden't visited his shop in maybe 10 yrs. His reception was less then warm. I will not be returning. When I called him and complained about his mistreatment t of me. He hung up. Go there if you darre, but beware read more

i have wandered in here from time to time but rarely encounter anything enticing, although I keep on trying. I did recently buy a 1930s German typewriter for a fair price. The owner seems like a nice guy but he is a bit hyperactive at times. This place has been in business for many years so he must be doing something right on a busy street in Montlake with limited parking. read more

Fantastic shop and great, friendly service. Bought a nice piece of vintage Seattle Worlds Fair.

as with all antiques stores (which aren't plentiful in Seattle) - it is a roll of the dice if they have what you are interested in. The diversity of the merchandise at Mr. Johnson's makes it almost certain that you'll find something you like (and on several occasions - more than one item for me). The staff is great and I do always learn something when I'm there. Highly recommend a visit. read more

Super nice owner! Great selection! Found really great things at great prices. Thank you Matt!

An always curious array of goods stand outside this Montlake Antique shop. If a parking spot is right in front, grab it and head in to be greeted by the shop's pleasant proprietor. Fair prices (some negotiable) and plenty of "things" to choose from. Reminiscent of grandma's attic or dining room or kitchen or basement! read more

Matthew Johnson is a knowledgeable antique dealer with some of the best deals I've run across in this area, and I am an avid comparison shopper. I picked up an 8-serving set of silverplate in excellent condition for under $100 there, as well as numerous other good deals. I recommend this shop highly. Parking is available on side streets if not on Montlake. Visit the Arboretum while you're there. read more
