Love our library. Staff are always great and do the best they can. Selection is phenomenal for a smaller town.

The children's section of the library has its own family restrooms with changing table. Clean and very convenient for changing a baby. There is an entire section towards the back of the children's room that's purely a play area. The play area is filled with toys and great for little ones even under two years old. Our 11 month old spent an hour playing in the toy area and he had a blast. There's a busy board on the wall and all kinds of toys even appropriate for his age. I was blown away by the amount of toys. It's not the cleanest play area but definitely worth a visit if you have a little one. Of note, there seem to be a lot of homeless people in the area. There was a security guard at the library which was reassuring. Will definitely visit again if in the area.

This means very long wait times for their 1-2 copies of ebooks. Previously the system was part of an Oregon consortium which gave us access to multiple copies of ebooks held by libraries from most of the state. The waits were usually tolerable. I very much regret this change, especially since more and more people want ebooks. (https://www.opb.org/article/2025/03/05/oregon-libraries-see-growing-demand-for-digital-books/ ) Grr!

They are a wonderful, very comfortable chairs to radian. The library has great big, beautiful windows looking out on the outside, so there is plenty of natural light. I have macular degeneration, so I primarily listen to books on Libby. I always loved reading so much that I resisted trying Libby, but I am mediately adopted it on my first pass. I can't recommend anywhere more than this wonderful place.

Their selection is limited, including that of the whole county, but you can't beat the price! It's free as long as you return books on time, anyway. The only annoyance I've found is that you can't renew an item if someone is on the wait list for it, so you really have to be sure you finish with it within the original borrowing period. Failure to do so possibly results in being shuffled to the end of the queue, sometimes months. Libraries in cities I've always lived in allow you the maximum renewals before requiring a book be returned for the next borrower, but what can you expect for 'free?' The only other comment is you really have to mind the various branch hours - as has become customary nationwide with many library system cutbacks - the Jacksonville branch seems closed more often than it is open. Be sure to plan ahead, and utilize the online system to reserve items from other branch locations. It will make your library card more valuable.
