Was visiting from out of town and brought our 11 month old to the library. They have a wonderful children's section. The children's section of the library has its own family restrooms with changing table. Clean and very convenient for changing a baby. There is an entire section towards the back of the children's room that's purely a play area. The play area is filled with toys and great for little ones even under two years old. Our 11 month old spent an hour playing in the toy area and he had a blast. There's a busy board on the wall and all kinds of toys even appropriate for his age. I was blown away by the amount of toys. It's not the cleanest play area but definitely worth a visit if you have a little one. Of note, there seem to be a lot of homeless people in the area. There was a security guard at the library which was reassuring. Will definitely visit again if in the area. read more

I went to the library for the fiber arts group and had a great time.... A very nice young lady named Megan led the group and she was patient with two other ladies in teaching them basic crochet techniques/stitches.... This is one of the few times I've been to the library and was pleased I found this nice group of people to interact with and enjoy my hobby with.... Thanks Megan! It is so hard to write this but I just gotta' do it. But before I do that, know that I'm a total book nerd. Some people visit baseball parks or grand cathedrals on vacation. I visit bookstores and libraries. I take pictures of libraries. I take pictures of books, at the libraries I visit, so I can borrow them from my own library. Sometimes, libraries have intersting art. I love that. I love the general creativity you find in libraries. I love the patrons (usually) and I love the staff. I visited this particular library while on vacation. Medford has a *great* library. The architecture isn't very interesting but they have an excellent children's program. When I was checking it out, I saw a little boy particpate in their treasure hunt. When he finally "found Waldo", he couln't have been more excited about his prize: a sticker he got to choose for himself. The librarian was this big guy I'd never expect to see working in a library but he was gentle and kind to the little boy, who went on to proclaim the sticker he chose now gives him the best sticker collection in the world. I mean. C'mon. The teen space is AMAZING. It has a seating area & computer area reserved specifically for them. They have a neat neat crafting space too. I wish I remembered to photograph it. The library lending also includes board games & puzzles. It's so nice! But. The space feels like a powder keg waiting to explode. I'm not talking about the homeless population there. I'm talking about the the addicts, inside and outside (the entrance to and parking lot for) the library. I hope they're all able to recover. In the meantime, though, it's not a comfortable space. read more

I attended an Open Mic program here and everyone was so kind and supportive (and talented). The librarians I encountered were terrific and quite helpful. They have a local reference section with an old school card catalog. They have charging ports for your phones, and various comfortable reading spots. The architecture is lovely, and they have fun quotes and details throughout the building. It's a large branch with some really great offerings, including a social worker and local community resources. I felt very inspired! read more

Walked in cause I was told this was a safe place to go in downtown to wait (Oregon Point bus kicks you off for an hour at the bus station) so your not outside with the junkies at the bus station. Well I quickly found out they were wrong! I was told I would have to lock up my bike (Trek Checkpoint SL9 Carbon Fiber Gravel bike with Shimano GRX 800 components) with a cheap loner lock where it can't be seen. There's half a dozen junkies sitting on the ground drooling over my bike as I walked up, so there's no way I'm going to leave it outside when they don't secure anything obviously. Thanks to the city of Medford for making me feel scared to be here at all! read more

Selection wise, this library is good. But I would not call this a family friendly library. No matter which entrance you use, there are homeless and junkies smoking or sleeping or talking to themselves right by the door. Every time I drive past I see 2-6 separate little areas against the outer wall of the library where a homeless person has their sleeping bag and stuff set up. I rarely come here anymore because I don't like walking through the smell of weed on my way into the library. The library staff seem friendly and are helpful when you ask questions, which is nice. The kids area is large and has a good selection. However, I know that some parents would probably like to know that the help desk in the children's section has a pride flag on display. Maybe that's not an issue for some parents, but I know some parents would take issue with that. Overall, I don't like coming here. I would be cautious about bringing my kids here because of some of the people that hang around or "live" at this location. Medford has a seriously out of control homeless and drug problem, and this library is smack dab in the midst of it. read more

Dang, I need and WANT this library near me. Two story library with PLENTY of tables and things to explore. LOVE IT. A bookstore with sections for Free and $1. LOVE IT. The old school technology still there if you need it. LOVE IT. The events they hold sound pretty nifty. LOVE IT. Beautiful outdoor patio to do reading. LOVE IT. First floor - kids and teenager books, large print books, large meeting rooms, a cafe with real food (gyros, bagels, cofee, sandwiches), nice wide-open lobby area and also a spot for kids to hang out "playground"-style. Lots of seating areas, comfortable chairs and Free Wi-Fi. Second floor - tons of magazines, books, study books, encyclopedias, large computer area, lots of individual chairs facing very wide open windows with a view, and again, Free Wi-Fi. This library is very new and is definitely worth checking out! read more

Love the Medford Library. Didnt know what I bought downstairs goes back to the college.

Not long ago Medford had one of the smallest libraries around for a town its size. The people of Jackson County voted to build all new libraries and now Medford's library rates up there with any smallish city. Medford library shares space with the library of the Medford branch of Rogue Community College. read more

I was finally pleased with the libaray. Who knew that all I had to do was to search for vegan cook books to find that they actually carry something relevant to me? In all seriousness, they actually carry a wide variety of cook books that are useful to me. Still no Bean Bible, but I'll keep checking.... read more

Beautiful library. Bottom floor is fiction and children's. Second floor is everything else. Super love the wide open spaces and that they have an outdoor sheltered area for children and adults separately. Definitely one of the most beautiful well thought out libraries around. read more

Year after year I have noticed how the second floor has become more and more like a homeless shelter, especially during the winter time. It's no fun trying to read a book and have some guy sit 10 feet from you who is filthy and smelly and who has duct tape shoes and a backpack that is 20% shoestring. Dont get me wrong, this library is easily the best in all of Southern Oregon, but I would appreciate it if something could be done about those people who just come in here and sit down and wait for the library to close. read more

Home sweet home! Jackson County Library System is amazing! Medford library staff is welcoming and helpful. There are abundant activities and events for all ages and interests, even including Tai Chi classes, concerts, craft classes, a Comic Con with RCC, homework help for kids, a STEM program and much more. It's easy to get what you want -- if you don't feel like looking for it on the shelves or if it's at another library -- just request it and it will be brought to the library of your choice. With Hoopla you can even access things online. The bookstore has great prices and the seasonal book sales are fantastic! There are plenty of places inside and out for reading and study. This library is a true community center. read more

The only downside to this library is the hours. It's only open four days a week at varying times. Also, it's movie collection isn't as robust as it could be. On the other hand, it is really innovative with self-check outs and online pre-ordering. Unless I am renting a movie, I can avoid waiting in line behind people with gaggles of children. read more

The library building is nice, however, the hours make it unusable. I lived in Lake Oswego, Oregon when the city decided to build this overly large, unfounded property and attempt to force the taxes upon the citizens of Medford. I was aghast. Our little tiny, highly beloved library in Lake Oswego was a community focal point, something we were all proud of, with librarians who listened to our requests and filled the library with our favorite things. When the city tried to purchase an over the top location, the SAIF building, the citizens od Lake Oswego were astute enough to say NO! And we kept the little library where it was, where we LOVED it, and where it sits today. This library stresses me out, it's so unusable, poor hours, terrible collections, it's basically a place to take your laptop and type.. I guess.. The conference room is nice, but Children, students, parents, adults all love collections. We want cool music and great books. We want smart hours and parking. How do people get so out of touch with the basics? sad. read more
