I could be happily lost here for days
    Jen K.

In Ashland, I go to Bloomsbury Books for new items and always hit the Book Exchange for used books. Locals turn in used books for store credit or a reduced amount in cash. But I am just happy to pick up books at half their original retail price unless otherwise marked. The space is cozy, but not claustrophobic. A couple of main aisles and lots of little cubbyholes. The staff is helpful and I could get lost in here for days. On our most recent visit, I almost lost my mom. Like me, she tends to choose an author and read all of their works. Since the books were written a little while ago, she found one item in stock at Bloomsbury, but nine books (for much less money) by pawing through the shelves here.

Since my last visit, Book Exchanged moved from Oak Street to its present location on Pioneer. It's a bigger place and easy to get lost among the wide variety of every genre of literature, including, Elizabethan, History, Philosophy, Classical Literature, Science Fiction/Fantasy, How To Books, Self-Help Guides, and many others. Friendly staff was at the ready, but this is the kind of bookstore where its more fun to randomly sample and figure it out as I go. There are benches to sit and to escape inside a book, especially on a rainy day. I ended up with some nice photos from a local artist. Who knows what it will be next time (or the one after)!

Nice place to recycle popular books for account credit and to find their replacements. Good variety, extremely clean, and pretty friendly.

A delightful used bookstore. Plenty of books for every interest. It was pretty well organized so it was fairly to find what we wanted.

Too damn hot all the time and surprisingly not a big selection of horror or science fiction...more of a tourist spot...

I picked out an old science fiction book by a favorite author from the "rare" books section.

One of the original owners recently passed and if you want to buy one of his fascinating and original wall art pieces, good luck! Past that, this is definitely a book store of literary titles that you didn't previous know that you needed. The store (which I think was once a Yoga studio) has 2 spacious rooms (front and back) and plenty of space to spread out and dive in. The selection is well curated (and organized) and priced accordingly. Hermeticus really requires multiple visits as there's so many exploration options. The person working the day I was there, was well versed in what topics I chose to bring up. I'll be sure to visit again the next time I'm in Ashland and hope that I can pull the trigger on a unique art piece or some personal literary masterpiece.

Not what you'd expect, the little used bookshop is full of rare and fascinating books on Alchemy, knowledge held by Mystery Schools of the past, and quite a selection of rare books on similar subjects. The owner was super friendly and helpful, even gave me a birthday discount on my purchases. Only in Ashland could a place as cool as this exist.

I have spent a lot of time and money here. The prices are all over the place, but it seems to average at $6-$10 per paperback, if it's a popular series it will certainly be near $10 or higher. I recently traded a series of books and was shocked by the store credit I received. I traded a new series of popular books that are hard to get second hand. The series is so new it's still being sold in big book stores for $60. I received $1 store credit per book. I couldn't even get an older $6 paperback I found with that credit. I understand that's how they make money but I am still disappointed. I will now only come here to buy used. I would have rather donated to the library for that price, that way I could at least check them out again.

Whether you are there to sell books or buy books, or place an order for a book, this is one of the very best places near Ashland. It is not technically within the city of Ashland but very close, in the town of Talent, right off the highway with parking. I have enjoyed working with this couple and look forward to many return visits. Prices are very very reasonable, lowest in the area for used books, and there are more than paperbacks here, there are also hardbacks!

I contacted Blackstone and they sent me a new copy, but the discs still skip. I don't know how to solve this problem. I don't know if its because the discs are released on a CD format that's inferior to regular CDs or if having twenty-nine tracks somehow causes it. I guess maybe I'll never know, but they need to produce better-quality CDs.

One time I wanted an audio book in MP3 format that was available only on CDs. The receptionist said, "Let me see if we can make a MP3 disc for you; wait here. In a few minutes she returned with the MP3 version, hot off the disc burner. Another time I bought a book just issued and found major defects in the recording. I took it back and was warmly thanked for discovering the defect that was in all the current run. The problem was fixed and I received a corrected copy in the mail. There are always books on sale or clearance. Blackstone employs actors from all over to read the books, including some of the local Shakespeare actors. A few years ago Blackstone and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival begin recording one Shakespearian play each year from the full production.
