I could never understand places that could watch cats. It seems to go against their demeanor. My friend has been bringing all her cats here from the beginning of their opening saying how unique it was- that was the last time I visited, and I am so surprised how well it has been tweaked to perfection with A/C/air etc. but especially at this place! I know another place in San Rafael that had like some giant room with all the cats, which sounded chaotic to me. People would say, "oh it works out" or "you just need to have that kind of social cat." My cat is chill but doesn't care for the interloping neighbor cats -so wasn't sure how this would work out. She gets so upset with a visitng cat coming face to face with her in our windows. This place has little suites of different sizes for each cat or groups of cats from the same family and you can get video updates on your cat, plus extras if you so choose; like If you want to FaceTime your cat daily etc. This was my first time going and I was in a pinch, really needed a place for my cat to stay so we had to try it, it was slow going at the beginning, first video was all dark cause she was in her carrier hunkered down, but the final kitty email we got on the day of pick up our cat was out of her carrier taking pets and sweet talking although also kind of growling and hissing, ultimately kind of came around which was pretty amazing. I realize cats are not wanting change, certain cats, especially probably mine, but I was impressed to see the progress from her on that last day. Definitely worth a try it if you are in a pinch with a very picky cat. My cat is up at the crack of dawn, climbing trees and loves the garden and watching the wildlife fly in and out of the garden and sleeping in different window sill etc. comes in late. I do feel like next time she could get to the top of the perch of her suite next time and realize it is another version of her climbing tree. The staff totally understands the personality of cats, what they want and don't want, they are the boss and they are just so sweet to them and understanding. It is immensely unfortunate that I have to write this review. This was my second time boarding my cat here, and it will be my last. In early May 2026, I boarded my cat for 11 days, and what should have been a routine stay turned into an extremely distressing experience. My cat has pre-existing kidney and heart disease and was on a strict prescription of 1ml of amlodipine daily. KCS notes that their staff has experience administering medication, yet despite my providing both written instructions and the original labeled prescription bottle with the dosage and instructions clearly marked, staff administered 1.9ml daily for 9 of the 11 days of his stay - nearly double the prescribed dose. When I picked my cat up and took him home, I noticed he felt unusually light, so I weighed him and confirmed he had lost nearly 1 pound, dropping from 14.14 lbs to 13.51 lbs. He also had little to no appetite when we got home. When unpacking his belongings, I discovered that the brand new bottle of amlodipine I had just ordered was already half empty. That's when my gut told me something was wrong and I took him to the ER vet immediately. My instincts were confirmed. I reached out to question KCS who later acknowledged that the error originated from a typo on their boarding form, and that staff failed to cross-check both my written instructions and the dosage on the prescription bottle itself. This medication error resulted in emergency veterinary bills including blood pressure assessments, ultrasounds, and senior blood panels to assess the damage caused by the overdose. To their credit, KCS apologized and agreed to reimburse the veterinary costs and refund his stay, which I do appreciate. However, paying for the consequences does not address the root cause. This facility must ensure their staff is properly trained and that clear safety protocols are in place for medication administration - for the sake of every pet in their care. read more

I left my cats there about 2 weeks ago and that was such an amazing experience! I'll start by saying I needed to make a last minute booking and they answered my request and my questions really fast which I really appreciated how easy was to communicate with the staff. Also they were really flexible and accommodated my schedule which made things so much easier for me. My younger cat Mango it is very anxious and do not do very well in new places, but they were so good with him that when I picked him up he wasn't stressed out at all about being away from home. Plus they sent me a "cat mail" which made me feel so much relieved seing that my babies were doing well during the day. I would definitely recommend and use their services again. 10/10 read more

Two friends recommended Kitty Charm School to me when I first started looking for a place to board my kitties. We made an appointment for an in-person tour, and we were very pleased with the staff and the facility. Our first boarding experience here was a year ago, and since then our two kitties have boarded there quite a few times, now that we are able to travel once again. Kitty Charm School was the best thing we could have done for our cat. He has been sick and both him and I needed a break. He had his own suite but could see other cats. The staff was so freely, professional and affectionate toward him. They interacted with him and made sure he was comfortable. My cat died a few years ago but I used this business before my cat died. My cat was kept for a week-end in a small space like a closet with only a hard boards to lay on (I had cushions in his carrier). They wanted all the cats to have flea treatments in a specific way and did not want my cat to mingle with other cats. I still feel bad that I left my cat there. read more

I live in the East Bay and there's simply nothing like KCS anywhere!! After searching and touring many boarding options and being left either disgusted by conditions or disappointed by small confining spaces, with NO program or intention of stimulation for my kitties - - I stumbled upon KCS. Sarah and her team of kitty worshipers are simply amazing - they have tremendous love for what they do and it shows in every update/progress video and email that was delivered. My 3 cats were boarded for several weeks and whenever I visited, they were just as happy as could be. They really had a great time and Sarah was super innovative with inventing a kitty brush scratching contraption for one of my cats who has a fetish for being brushed! The most important thing to share is that my babies were safe, extremely well cared for (everything was CLEAN) they were incredibly loved by the team and had absolutely no transfer/behavior acting out issues going in or out. MEOWRIFFIC! Yes, I thought what a total snob I must be to place my kitties here. UGH! First impression, great except I talk alot and am energetic and and and and I drove Sarah up a cat tree, but hey, she is a cat lady,maybe not a people lady. Sarah and the Kitty Charm School team are truly angels from above and they deserve 5 stars and more for genuine love of their job and your kitty! When I moved from the East Coast to San Francisco, my biggest concern was M.E.C., my precious fur child. For 3 weeks, Kitty Charm School became her home away from home during the transition. A Google search of "cat boarding in San Francisco" brought up dozens of results, but something about Kitty Charm School stood out. From the promise of "cage-free loving care" on the website, to the first phone call I made to Sarah who talked me through flying on a plane with M.E.C. She offered details I never would have thought of and we discussed the pros and cons of tranquilizers. If your cat is like a child to you, then the paper work required for KCS will put you at ease knowing that your cat is in the best hands. When M.E.C. and I arrived in Marin, her spacious Queen room was all decked out with shelves for jumping, a hammock for lounging, and a sky box with a great view. KCS is immaculately clean, especially the litter boxes. Food and water dishes are always kept fresh and tidy. KCS even provides organic catnip, way better than the average stuff. M.E.C. is hooked! Being away from M.E.C. was the hardest part of my cross country move, and KCS made it so much easier with daily "Kitty Mail." Kitty Mail is a text or email with pictures and video of your cat and an update on how they're doing. Sarah also encourages owners stopping by to visit your kitty if you can. Loved that and it was my first stop back in to the Bay area. The level of dedication doesn't stop at putting food in a bowl. When my sweet, stubborn M.E.C. refused to eat her food that I brought, Sarah hand fed her baby food! Hand fed!! M.E.C. didn't necessarily "like" this, but it kept her hydrated and getting enough nutrients until she decided to start eating on her own. Everything about Kitty Charm School is perfect and I had a wonderful experience. Cats that get a chance to spend time here are very lucky felines! Will definitely be using KCS in the future. Kitty Charm School seemed too good to be true when I found it through a Google search. I read through the website with near disbelief, as I discovered the genuine compassion that underlies the ethics and protocols of 'boarding' our felines at KCS. Sarah's devotion and vision are unparalleled in the Bay Area realm of boarding! I was a 14 year staunch veteran of the painstaking process of finding a cat-sitter for my two former male cats. The time it took to explain how to step into my shoes and live in my flat and trust that the sitter would really and truly stay overnight and play with my boys, and not have friends over or get drunk or leave doors open was overwhelming and usually totally overshadowed the excitement of whatever trip i was planning to take to get a vacation in. After maybe 5 cat-sits during my boys' 14 year lives, I simply stopped going away for more than one night, when i could depend on a cat owning neighbor to drop in and give a feeding or two during a 12 hours period. My two boys passed this summer and i now have two female kittens of 5 and 9 months. When i needed to be at my fiance's side during the aftermath of his father's death in north Seattle, Sarah and KCS gave me the freedom to be away for 5 days and not worry about my home AND my cats. "Facetime" live video feed of our cats was such a kick and completely reassuring in terms of how my two she-cats were getting along just fine and were active and clearly 'loved up'. The facility is bright, cheerful, spotless, and Sarah has the whole caretaking process dialed in and her protocols and precautions may strike you as over-meticulous BUT they are essential to what makes this haven so unique and special. Sarah is unique and special herself and so are her staff. They'll go the extra 'mile' for you if there's a glitch in your itinerary if they can. The care that Peggy Su and Shree received was truly personalized and Sarah is a forthright, clear communicator and moreover, a 'catvocate' worthy of ninja status! One of the marvelous side benefits of having boarded the girls there for the 5 days is that KCS's schedule 'broke' the pattern the girls had of playing late into the night here at my flat and keeping me up til 3am or later! They came back from Charm School and were able to bed down on my schedule, between 11.30pm-1am. Their time with Sarah and her staff really did 'refine' their behavior in subtle and obvious ways. I hope that when Kirt and I I need to avail ourselves of KCS's resources again that accommodation for Shree and Peggy will be available! This place is fantastic. Have been taking our two cats here for years. The set up is secure, which is important for us as one of our cats has a habit of bolting out of the house from time to time. The peace of mind of having them here is well worth it. In addition, they take meticulous notes about feedings and have been proactively in contact with our vet when the kitties lost their appetite during past visits. One day before I was about to fly out of town to visit family, my cat sitter canceled on me with no explanation. In a near panic - I was ready to cancel the trip, because I didn't think there was any solution. As a last ditch effort, after calling my most trusted friends and begging them, I started to search for cat sitters in the area through yelp. I'm really nervous generally about who I let handle my babies and who I allow into my home. In my searches I found Sarah at Kitty Charm School and the gorgeous pictures of the little hotel rooms for kitties, the scores of good reviews, and the top ratings. I didn't think there was a chance in heck that there would be any availability 2 days before Christmas. But for the heck of it, I emailed anyway. I got a very fast response from Sarah and she said she could do house calls, once a day or twice a day and it turned out that her rate was very affordable and worked out to be the same I was going to pay my flaky friend. She came over that evening and met with me to get a feel for the kitties' needs. She's a cat lover and she "gets it", and assured me that they would be in safe hands. We discussed everything from where the toys and food was located, the litterbox, what their favorite activities are, whether they are allowed outside, what vet we use, etc. She was extremely thorough with all of her questions, and even thought of things I had not, which made me feel like the cats were in good hands. The best part of this is that she doesn't just drop by and crack a few cans of food, she changes the water every day, scoops the litter, makes sure to give the cats ample playtime and she texts me updates and videos of the cats - TWICE per day! Summary - this was the most painless experience with going away and, as we take trips often to europe and to visit family, I will definitely be using her service in the future. I highly recommend Kitty Charm School if you need in-home service, are super paranoid and addicted to your kitties, and want someone who is a professional. I can't speak for her hotel-suites for kitties, but it's another option to consider. read more

It has been purpose built out... each cat or sibling group gets their own little room, with built in varied shelves so they can climb and watch the world from on high. They get trips 'out' into larger exercise rooms and they get visits from kitty worshippers - junior assistants who play with the cats. This is so much better than any other cat boarding I have seen. After a flood in my home, I needed to find a place to stash the kitties while repairs were done. I looked all over the Bay Area for someone I felt I could trust with my kitties, and thank goodness, found Kitty Charm School. The reviews were reassuring, so we booked two suites for the kitties, and I could not be happier with their housing and care while at "Kitty Camp". Great pains are taken to assure that the kitties are comfortable and safe! The condos are clean and bright and have little shelves for leaping around on, making the space more interesting, as well as providing a way to stretch those little legs all day long. You bring your kitties' food along with them, and give information about how much and when your furballs are used to eating. We were also able to bring their toy, blankets, scratching post, everything they're used to having at home. Sarah is a gem! All the people we met at KCS were truly focused on the kitties and their care and comfort, so Sarah certainly has an eye for finding people who are ready to make your kitties comfy, as well as to communicate with you when you need information or reassurance. One of my kitties is very very shy, and within a couple of days was letting Sarah scratch her belly and play with her... amazing! Another one is also somewhat skittish, and he was allowed to live in his carrier inside his condo, where he felt safe. The friendly, obstreperous ones were given all the loves and petting and playing they wanted. I visited them several times during the repair period and they were always happy and comfy, clean and fed and watered just as I would have wished. Knowing my kitties were in good hands made the entire unsettling event in my home so much easier to handle. On top of that, KCS was the most cost effective place to leave the kitties, and I did my research all over the Bay Area! And then... there's Kitty Mail! KCS sends text messages with video of your kitties attached, so you can see how they're doing, and also, see what a marvelous job of playing with and taking care of your kitties they are doing. One of my guys had his birthday while at KCS, and I received Kitty Mail with him being sung the Happy Birthday song, and served his birthday dinner. I know this is a really long review... but I can't say enough good things about Kitty Charm School. If you need to board your kitties, call KCS. You will not be disappointed. read more

Finding Sarah and Kitty Charm School has changed our life!! This place is fantastic!!! Like a lot of other reviewers, we didn't know what to do with our cat when we went out of town. We have always been extremely concerned about the well-being of our animals. We tried a few house-sitters and ended up with an inconsistent mix of good people and some totally crazy off-the-wall people. (truly hard to know up front what you're getting). We were told years ago that cat's prefer to stay at home. That's why we were hesitant to board our cat. So with great hesitation, we tried Kitty Charm School. Bottom line and much to our surprise, our cat was 100% happy there!! Sarah is totally in tune with what cats want and need . . . and provides it perfectly. She really cares about each and every animal that stays at her facility and makes the experience a fun thing for them. When we took our cat home a few days ago, he asked us if we could go out of town again SOON . . . so he could go back to Sarah (and Nancy) and hang out at Kittly Charm School. Anyway, Kittly Charm School is THE BEST!!!! Sarah takes the angst away from planning "what to do with the cat" when you have to go out of town. Wow, what a fabulous place! I boarded my kitty at Kitty Charm School last week and could not have been happier with the experience. My kitty has a few health issues and requires several medications, some in the morning, some evening, some every-other day, etc. Sarah was excellent and took great care to document detailed instructions for each and every medication. I felt so comfortable as I was leaving, I knew my kitty was in good hands. The facility is beautiful; it's well thought out and extremely clean. No detail has been overlooked. Sarah's love for animals is apparent the moment you see her interact with the kitties. Leaving for a long weekend away without worrying about my kitty and her medication is enough to garner a 5-star review. Where Sarah goes above and beyond is her communication. Sarah sent me videos of my kitty almost every day. My kitty warmed right up to Sarah and was very calm and friendly when I picked her up. I used to be able to have someone house sit or drop by to make sure my cat Grace was fed and her litter cleaned while I was out of town, but now that she's almost 18 years old and has arthritis that's not an option. My vet offers boarding and they're wonderful, but leaving your cat in a large cage for two weeks doesn't sound very good unless you have a medical issue you're dealing with - so was I happy to find Sarah and her newly opened spot on Miller Ave in Mill Valley. It's clean and inviting for both pet and humans alike. Sarah takes her time to get to know you & your cat(s) and their individual needs so she can tailor their experience to make it as pleasant as possible. Grace is one of her toughest customers personality-wise and I would definitely bring her back to Kitty Charm School again. read more

Unfortunately for us, we can't have cats at our current house, so our 3 cats have been residing at KCS for almost 3 months while we look for a different place..... Luckily, Sarah and the rest of the gang there have made them feel right at home and given them all the TLC they need while living in their home-away-from-home :-) The cats get tons of play time and they send us frequent pictures and videos of them via text, so we know they're doing well. Any time one of them has had an issue, we got a call right away, so it's good to know that they're being well-monitored. What can I say, Sarah and Kitty Charm School rock! As a mother of the furry persuasion, I am often concerned about leaving my furry loved one while I'm away. However, once you meet Sarah you will quickly discover that she is wonderful with animals and will provide them with tons of love and attention during your absence! The facility is also beautiful with creatively designed and spacious rooms for cats to have a good time in. I recently visited Sarah and Kitty Charm School because I work at PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support) in San Francisco. Sarah has offered to assist with pro-bono cat boarding for vaccinated cats of PAWS clients during extreme times of need!! PAWS helps low-income, disabled individuals and senior citizens provide for the comprehensive needs of their companion animals. We support the human-animal bond and the health and well-being of our clients by making sure that their furry companions are looked after. One of our client's biggest concerns is what happens to their animals when they are hospitalized. I'm a regular KCS user, and recommend them wholeheartedly! As I travel a lot on business, often for as long as 2 weeks at a time, KCS has become my kitty's home away from home. My cat is a love sponge and I love that he gets plenty of attention from the "kitty worshippers" (cat loving volunteers who come in to play with the cats every day). We rely on them extensively and exclusively to visit with our cats each day while we are out of town. Previously, they cared for elderly, ailing kitties for us with sensitivity and kindness, and on our most recent trip, Alexa alerted us to unusual behavior with one cat that led to the discovery of the need for urgent dental work, and helped us with the entire process. I LOVE Kitty Charm School! The best thing is they send you text videos of your kitties while you're away, so you don't have to worry!! It's the first Kitty Boarding that I know of in Marin County that are NOT using cages. Instead, they have "suites" which are quite roomy, including stairs up to the skybox to watch other kitties! Basically the best thing you can do for your kitties if you need to board them. Kitty Mail is actually incredibly comforting, we used KCS during our move to Mill Valley and knowing that the KCS team was taking such sweet care of my cats was one thing less I worried about. I adopted a really scared cat and it took him almost a year to acclimate to me and my home. He is scared of everything and everyone but me, so I decided that I could not leave him in a place that would keep him in a cage for the two weeks I was traveling. I live in Oakland and looked all over the east bay for something I felt comfortable with, to no avail. I came across KCS and after reading the reviews I decided that was my best option as they had suites not cages. I found myself in love with a cat that I had never wanted and came to me superstitiously, so here I was being "that person" and making sure he was well cared for. Driving him to Mill Valley and not having the flexibility of time was painful. That said, once I was gone I started to get the Kitty mails; Kat was not having bowel movements and was not eating, he was that stressed. However, they were monitoring his weight, took the time to hand feed him baby food, and were monitoring his litter box. I was impressed that they; 1) let me know 2) took action By the time I got back he had lost some weight and looked really pathetic but he had been well cared for and monitored. During this time he was starting to improve. It is a testament that my neurotic cat had gotten excellent care and was starting to come around. I really appreciated that. This has nothing to do with KCS but everything to do with a cat that has issues and is difficult to care for. Can you imagine what his state would have been if I had left him in a kennel where he was in a cage for two weeks? KCS was really on top of his well being and would have probably taken him to get medical care if necessary (at my expense of course). That really gave me peace of mind. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing to board their kitties. Ours were very shy and needed a good couple days to settle in and Sarah and Nancy kept in touch with us with videos and emails twice a day for that settling in period. They even had someone stay in the room during feedings when they figured out one of our cats ate better with someone staying with her. The kitty worshippers were great and we loved their videos as well. This place puts the personal touch in everything they do. They check weight and note food consumption and litter box activity to make sure kitties are eating normally. We plan to board our cats there again. read more
